I am delighted!!! The question is: who will be producing Season 8? That is a good question! I guess Julie has been saying "as long and Ian and Paul are involved, I'll stick with them." Or something like that. I don't watch it, but isn't she with The Originals now?

I am delighted!!! The question is: who will be producing Season 8? Hopefully Caroline Dries will be kept far away. It sounds like it might be a shorter season maybe, wrap things up with hopefully some modicum of dignity. *fingers crossed*

Ian Somerhalder confirms ‘The Vampire Diaries’ to end after Season 8
Another cast member from “The Vampire Diaries” has announced his exit, and this one might be a game-changer. At 2016 WalkerStalkerCon on Sunday (April 10), Ian Somerhalder confirmed that Season 8 of the CW vampire drama will be the last for Damon Salvatore. “We have decided to do one last season to really do the story justice,” Somerhalder says. “My role is shifting in the show, and we have a lot to do basically.” While The CW has not yet issued a formal statement saying that Season 8 will be the last for “The Vampire Diaries,” Somerhalder’s exit seems to confirm what fans have been suspecting for a while now. After all, Damon has been a focal point for the show — along with his on screen brother, Stefan (Paul Wesley) — for so long that it seems impossible to carry on the show without him. Now, with Nina Dobrev no longer playing Elena, and Kat Graham set to exit after Season 8 as well, it seems that our time in Mystic Falls is coming to an end. zap2it.com/2016/04/ian-somerhalder-confirms-vampire-diaries-will-end-after-season-8/UPDATE

Vampire Diaries' Ian Somerhalder Backtracks on End Date CommentIan Somerhalder is blaming “end-of-season foggy brain” on comments he made over the weekend about next season being Vampire Diaries‘ last. Speaking to fans of the CW drama at WalkerStalkerCon in Nashville on Sunday, Somerhalder said, “We have decided to do one last season to really do the story justice.” His statement drew a quick rebuke from The CW, which insisted “no decision has been made” about the show’s future beyond the just-ordered Season 8. Somerhalder is now singing a similar tune. Late Wednesday, the actor released the following statement on Twitter: Hey all, so… Last weekend I talked to an audience at a Q&A about the end of #TVD and how excited I was to make what I believe – my last year – be as great as possible. Somehow in my infinite wisdom and end-of-season foggy brain, I managed to make it sound like the show was coming to an end. Cut-to the press running stories that the show would be done after Season 8. Thing is, the people who actually make that decision (the CW and WB) haven’t made it yet! So let’s take things one step at a time: Season 7 wrap, vacation, lots of sleep, let the writers get started on Season 8, and then we’ll all see where we go from there. Until then, much love
Somerhalder’s initial remarks came just days after his co-star Kat Graham confirmed that, regardless of the series’ future, Bonnie Bennett only has one season left in her. “Season 8 will be my last season,” Graham said. “I just hope that whatever I do after, the crew can come with me. … The crew is going to be the hardest thing to let go, because we are a family.” tvline.com/2016/04/13/ian-somerhalder-vampire-diaries-season-8-leaving/#more-703978

www.ew.com/article/2016/05/03/julie-plec-roundtable-cw-showsWESLEY: I’m very critical of television and of myself and of The Vampire Diaries, but I will say the first couple seasons of Vampire Diaries were f–king out-of-this-world good. PLEC: There’s no reason why [director of photography] Paul Sommers shouldn’t have gotten an award for what he did in the first season of the show. Every single show on the CW has emulated the look of The Vampire Diaries — and other shows on broadcast emulate the look of The Vampire Diaries — because what he was doing was he was making a movie. So at least acknowledge him in some way. Don’t give him an Emmy, I don’t care. But find a way to acknowledge the craftsman.

‘Vampire Diaries’ ending with Season 8? Maybe it’s time. After a slightly anti-climactic season finale for “The Vampire Diaries,” which earned the lowest finale ratings in The CW vampire drama’s history, many fans may be wondering if it’s time to bid adieu to Mystic Falls and its inhabitants. Ratings have never been an overly important issue for The CW, which is why so many fan-favorite shows have survived for so long on the network. “The Vampire Diaries” could conceivably continue on to Season 12 like its spooky counterpart “Supernatural,” so long as everyone involved wants to keep plugging away. Unfortunately, that doesn’t seem to be the case, as many actors have started to make rumblings about leaving. Kat Graham made a statement back in April, announcing that Season 8 of “The Vampire Diaries” would be her last. This came after her comments at the People’s Choice Awards that now might be the right time for the show to come to an end. On top of that devastating loss, Ian Somerhalder also insinuated that next year would be the last for the show. While he quickly retracted the statement that “The Vampire Diaries” would be ending, he continued to imply that he’d be moving on to greener pastures after Season 8. Now Matt (Zach Roerig) has left Mystic Falls as well, and while he’ll apparently be back for Season 8, it sounds like his role may be reduced. With both Bonnie and Damon gone, it seems impossible to imagine the show continuing with the only two of its original characters, Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Caroline (Candice King), no matter how popular they may be. Showrunner Julie Plec has stated many times that the show will go on for as long as Wesley and Somerhalder stay committed, but according to a recent Entertainment Weekly interview, the writers were waiting for renewal news until the last minute during Season 7. “This year’s finale was really interesting because we didn’t know when we were shooting this season if we were going to have another season,” Plec says. “The burden became, ‘How do we make this as twisty and turny and as epic as we have in the past when 85 percent of it could have operated as a series finale if it had to?'” Ever since Nina Dobrev exited the series, cancellation rumors have followed “The Vampire Diaries” around, but they always seem to dodge the axe. Now, it may be time to stop dodging and start wrapping up. zap2it.com/2016/05/vampire-diaries-ending-season-8-maybe-its-time/

Vampire Diaries Video: Candice King Shares 'Kinky' Idea for Stefan and Caroline, No Hope for 'Klaroline'After a seventh season of magical pregnancies, broken engagements and dramatic reunions, Candice King is hoping for slightly more chill storylines on The Vampire Diaries this fall. (Yeah, good luck with that.) Speaking to TVLine at The CW Upfront on Thursday, King — after acknowledging that her character will likely wrestle with her decision to send Alaric and the twins back to Dallas without her — offered up a truly wild idea for Stefan and Caroline’s next step as a couple: a “proper date!” “I think they’ve had kind-of dates, but she was pregnant,” King said. “It was a very interesting start to a relationship for them. So maybe some normalcy. I think that would be kinky for them.” But if you’re also hoping that Caroline will find time to check in with her ol’ pal Klaus, you might want to pull back on your expectations. “They weren’t even together!” King said of this season’s big crossover moment between both halves of “Klaroline.” She added, “I have not seen Joseph [Morgan] in so long. … Everyone else has worked with him, and all we’ve done is a phone call. It’s just hilarious in the social media world. … I think it’s going to be more interesting for them to never be in the same room. … It would never work, ever.” tvline.com/2016/05/19/the-vampire-diaries-season-8-video-klaus-caroline-candice-king/#more-715974

Vampire Diaries Casts Stitchers Star as Mysterious Season 8 CharacterIf Allison Scagliotti thinks stitching her friend into dead people’s memories is a tad on the unusual side, just wait until she steps foot in Mystic Falls. Scagliotti, who also stars on Freeform’s Stitchers, will recur in The Vampire Diaries‘ upcoming eighth season — premiering Friday, Oct. 21 at 8/7c on The CW — as Georgie, TVLine has learned, an occult reach intern “driven by a horrific darkness in her own past.” (So, yeah, she’s got some demons.) Georgie, who “channels her existential anxieties into a new field of study that will force her to confront her deepest fears,” makes her first appearance in the Season 8 premiere. Much of TVD‘s eighth season is being kept under wraps; when last we spoke with executive producer Julie Plec, she couldn’t even reveal the name of the mysterious creature that turned Damon and Enzo evil in the season finale. Plec did, however, tell us that she’s “really excited” about the show’s new theme, “which should become very clear the minute [The CW starts] announcing episode titles.” tvline.com/2016/07/20/the-vampire-diaries-spoilers-season-8-cast-georgie-allison-scagliotti/#more-733601
