Did The Vampire Diaries just cast Matt Donovan's dad?Heading into The Vampire Diaries’ eighth and final season, fans don’t know what to expect when they return to Mystic Falls. Aside from the fact that there’s a scary new villain who has taken over Damon and Enzo’s minds, much of the season remains a mystery. And today, we hand you one more piece of the puzzle: EW can exclusively reveal that Joel Gretsch has been cast in the role of Peter Maxwell. Peter is described as “a blue-collar guy who abandoned his family a long time ago. He is shocked when his grown son walks back into his life to reconnect — and to drag Peter into a world of supernatural dangers.” The question is: Is his son someone we know? And could his name be Matt Donovan? Gretsch will first appear in episode 4 and is set to recur. www.ew.com/article/2016/07/29/vampire-diaries-joel-gretsh-recurring-role

Oh god demetra I hope that idea gets squashed. That would really be disappointing :-/ I would agree. My intuition is usually completely wrong, so don't worry LOL It just struck me funny when Julie Plec said she put Kevin Williamson onto writing Damon.

THR caught up with Kat Graham at Teen Choice Awards where she shared a nice bit of scoop from the upcoming final season. Check out what Kat teased! “It’s bittersweet because it feels like the end, but you know, a lot of us have a lot of other projects that we’re doing and gearing up to release,” Graham told THR. “So it’s bittersweet, but it’s kind of fun.” Graham and the rest of the TVD cast are currently a couple of weeks into filming season 8, and according to her, there’s a lot lined up. “There’s definitely a really cool female villain. I know the actress — she’s amazing,” Graham toldTHR. “It’s a take on an old classic story that we’re bringing to life.” She also teased “a big death coming up.” “Not in the season premiere — but, you know, midway through, someone’s kickin’ the bucket,” Graham said. vampirediariesonline.com/interviews/more-vampire-diaries-season-8-scoop-from-kat-graham-via-thr/

Heads up guys! We have word on a brand new Vampire Diaries Season 8 casting. TVLine has learned that UnReal’s Nathalie Kelley has been cast in the highly anticipated role of Sybil. Who we have now learned is the new villain in TVD’s last and final season. More deets below! Something wicked this way comes — or, rather, someone wicked. UnREAL alumna Nathalie Kelley is joining The Vampire Diaries for Season 8 — itsfinal season — in the heavily recurring role of Sybil, aka “evil herself.” But come on — can the character really be that bad? Apparently so. The casting breakdown for the dastardly immortal describes her as a power monger who manipulates her victims “into twisted games and tests for her own amusement and glorification.” Underneath, however, Sybil is just like all of us: She only wants to be loved. Season 8 Tibiits - Season 8 Spoilers from SDCC 2016
They are looking to pay homage to the first season throughout the final season. Said executive producer Julie Plec, “We are just in the early stages of writing the scripts, but every day in the room, we talk about different ways we can celebrate the first season. There’s a pitch on the table now about the Miss Mystic Falls Pageant, the Decade Dance and the Founder’s Day, going back to the idea of the root of the founding families and seeing the history of Season 1 played out from a different perspective. There are all kinds of different tricks and tools and fun things we’re trying to do. We’ll see if we actually do them, but that’s definitely our intention.”
Executive Producer Kevin Williamson helped write the Season 8 premiere, and he will write the series finale with Plec. He’s been reading the scripts and contributing, and will do what he can, along the way.
They’re doing 16 episodes for Season 8, which allows them to make every minute of every episode count, with no fluff and no stalling. Every episode is going to matter.
When it comes to the June wedding, they are well aware that the line exists in the pilot and that that was Caroline’s intention, from minute one. Plec said, “It’s the final season, and we don’t like to leave a lot of things hanging, so we’ll see.
Michael Malarkey said that there will be a whole lot more of Enzo and Bonnie.he wants a happy ending for Enzo, where he ends up with Bonnie and is content. Finding out whether that can happen is the arc of the final season.
There are no cross-overs set because the timelines don’t match up this year, but that doesn’t mean that before they run the end titles on the last image of the finale, they won’t pay some sort of homage to what’s happening on The Originals, which will hopefully continue to live on.
When it comes to any of The Vampire Diaries characters appearing on The Originals, after the show has ended, Plec said, “I would love that. I’ll go to the network and say, ‘Listen, keep The Originals on the air and I swear, at some point, we’ll try to find a way to work everybody through those doors.’ Why not? It’s a great world. Vampires are not done. People still like vampires. And there’s no other vampires on television that I want to see. I’d love to keep it going.”
Plec has thought about possible spin-off ideas and said that it’s not out of the question

Nina Dobrev could be coming home to Mystic Falls. The Vampire Diaries actress is in talks to return to The CW series for its final season, network boss Mark Pedowitz told press at the 2016 TCA Summer Press Tour. "We collectively came to the same place," Pedowitz told reporters about the decision to end The Vampire Diaries. "We backed Julie [Plec] in her decision…there are discussions going on with Nina, we'd love to have her back...These are discussions that go on, hopefully she'll be back, but should it not work out, Julie has planned out a great series finale for fans." In regards to how many episodes, Pedowitz later told a group of reporters Dobrev could return for "as many as Julie thinks she needs her for." "I always like to have Nina. Who doesn't like to have Nina on the show? She was a great person to have. She was a great spokesperson for The CW and for The Vampire Diaries. She made a career decision that, for her, was probably the right decision but we'd love to have her back," he said. "But again, if it cannot work out, Julie will take care to have a really satisfactory series finale." www.eonline.com/news/786944/nina-dobrev-in-talks-to-return-to-the-vampire-diaries-supernatural-s-future-and-more-cw-scoop
