Yeah, to this day I'm still pissed that Damon killed Mason. Not only because he was pretty and interesting, but because the guy offered to make a truce. Damon shook his hand, then went and stabbed him in the back. Mason had every right to become Damon's enemy after that. Then I remember Damon saying to Jeremy, while torturing the guy, that this was 'kill or be killed,' and that Mason would kill him the first chance he got. Uhm... Only because you killed him, dude.
Or am I forgetting something? It's been ages since I rewatched those episodes back to back.

When Mason came back as a ghost he asked Damon for an apology and he sort of got one from Damon too.

"I don't need revenge, Damon, I need redemption"

Then when he apologized to Alaric for killing him, who asked Damon if he was going to recycle the same crap ass apology he gave Mason Lockwood, Damon said "Yeah, well. I didn't mean it with him." But then Damon killing Mason was just Damon being Damon. He wasn't meant to be the good honorable guy back then.

They were eventually going to be enemies regardless once it came out Mason had the moonstone, but the fact that Damon actively went after him without cause at first was what made me mad. Although it did lead to that hilarious apology napoli, and the recycled apology he gave to Ric later. That was a great episode.
