I second that and for me katherine getting killed by stefen. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I527 using proboards Particularly heartbreaking because of what he did for her on her death bed in 500 Years of Solitude (one of my favorite moments of the season), but to come full circle it makes sense that it would be Stefan and I'll bet Katherine probably preferred it being him to end her life. Yes she did I am sure of it. I love that it paralleled silas and amara. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I527 using proboards

Oh, interesting point! Do you think it foreshadows Stefan and Elena? Nooooooo! I hope not.

Day14. Most Heartbreaking scene for season 5
I guess the scene that stands out in my mind would have to be the death scene with Silas and Amara. I thought for sure that they would finally be together.
I re-watched that ep. this weekend. I'm still wondering how Paul and Nina were able to convey their love and sadness in a way that didn't remind me of Stefan/Elena. It was a heartbreaking moment, that Sila had to kill Amara himself. I found Stefan's moments talking to Damon/Elena and digging the grave heartbreaking as well.

I guess I'm already beyond Day 14.
Day 15: Favorite song from Season 5? Wings by Birdy. This song made the last scene of Season 5 all the more breathtaking. I love how music can do that.

Oh, interesting point! Do you think it foreshadows Stefan and Elena? Nooooooo! I hope not. No not necessarily or maybe the past came full circle and now stefen and elena can work on themselves and find there way back to each other. I think when elena is not around the effects of compulsion and the sire bond will slowly dissapate and she will realize the bad decisions shes made. I would even be okay with her being with matt lol. Anyone has to find their compassion again when they are with matt donavan. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I527 using proboards

It's hard to say whether that can happen after all this time, but I think Matt's character has grown a lot over the years. I don't mind if Elena ends up with Stefan as long as it's done right. At this time, it feels like Stefan and Elena have done all that they can do aside from becoming friends. There's also the fact that JP hasn't changed her mind about the series ending that she and Kevin Williamson thought up a long time ago. She said the only difference will be that someone who was supposed to be a ghost won't be a ghost because the Other Side is gone. I don't think that's a major detail, though. She said that it's been planned out how Elena will walk away from the Salvatore brothers and how they will separate from each other. I won't say that I think the sixth season will be the last. People often get misquoted by online reporters, and sometimes the right quotes are put out of context. There could be a seventh season. I guess we'll find out soon enough.

The thing was that Damon and Elena never were able to create a home environment, for themselves or for Jeremy. True, there was that one scene where Damon and Elena are finally at peace on the couch, and Damon counts down the ten seconds they have to themselves before the next crisis (Silas) walks through the door. But Elena and Stefan seem to have more to have a relationship around. Stefan can ground his family relationships. It may seem lower key, but despite all the ways the writers wrote Stelena out of existence and probability, if the stakes are eternal, there is something to be said for being able to spend time in each other's company.

Okay, so I'm re-watching Season Five. The only "problem" with Episodes 3 and 4, which are really great, is the whole Silas-Amara-Quetsiya/creation of the Other Side plot, which remains confusing. In Episode 3, the opening Stefan scene is stupendous, and from Episode 4, the opening car crash fun brother/safe brother scene is also fantastic.

Still re-watching Season Five.I had forgotten that Silas died very much the way Stefan was to die in 5x21. He turned grey and was presented on the couch exactly as was Stefan's body in 5x22. Two characters played by the same actor that are meant to -- and do -- look exactly the same. Yet when Silas died, I felt nothing, in fact, I barely remembered it. When Stefan died, I was actually very upset about it for the next two days. I had retained no visual memory of Silas's death. Yet I still feel upset at the same shot of Stefan. I wish someone could explain to me what that was about. Also this time through, caught Damon's hilarious observation that he had serious feelings for two women who looked the same (Katherine and Elena), but felt nothing for the third (Amara). What is that about?

Like I previously said in the shout box, I finally started watching season 5 again, and so far so good. I have to admit the episodes are a little better on second viewing, but still not up to par even with season four's quality. To me the first 5 or so episodes of the season were of better quality than the later ones. I especially liked I Know What You Did Last Summer (Elena seemed so light, and calm and happy, it almost breaks my heart at what she became later on in the season. Sigh!) and the tearjerker special For Whom The Bell Tolls, that dealt extensively with Bonnie's death. Watching it again, I cried just as much as I did before -- it was that sad. And that Birdy song: my God, can you have a more perfect song for Bonnie's "funeral." Talk about an instant tearjerker. Then Tyler shows up and the flood gates open. It was just an amazing scene, and a pretty good overall episode. Plus, amnesia Stefan and Elena walking down memory lane: definitely a plus for an SE fan. FWTBT was probably my favorite season 5 episode. The only one that had a real lasting impact on me.

Yeah the beginning of season 5 was totally in line with other TVD season beginnings...then its starts drifting in "wha?" territory, then goes full blown 'WTF@!#%^$!@" post Katherine episodes. So for my rewatch, I liked the first 5 to 6 episodes a little better the second time around but then as the the season progressed I liked Season 5 a whole lot less than I did the first time, which I thought wouldn't be possible. I pray for you as you move forward in the Season, I threw pillows and knocked over my drink which then got a book wet, and there was a whole situation. I blame Dries. Don't let it happen to you! And yes, For Whom the Bell Tolls, is definitely one of the best if not the best ep of Season 5. The only one that really had true emotional resonance the entire episode. Birdy's Without a Word...perfection!

I'm only up to The Cell. Could the member who recently used the word "postmodern" jump in here and assist with a clarification as to who wants to destroy the Other Side and why? Silas, who had the cure in his hand but wouldn't take it for 2,000 years, has been getting dribs and drabs of folks' blood leaking through the roof for some reason I can't ever remember. This somehow enhanced his psychic powers. He entombs Stefan all summer to take advantage of his identity but then shows up in Mystic Falls -- the day before school starts -- to look for the cure. Nadia somehow hooked up with Rebekah and Matt in Europe, and then shows up in Mystic Falls. Nadia and Gregor are Travelers. They do or do not want to foil Silas? Silas kills the mayor and compels everyone to look for Katherine who is now the cure. Damon tricks Katherine and forces her blood into dead Silas's mouth to make Silas human. Silas first couldn't care less if Amara dies, then is heartbroken to the point of carrying out her wishes to kill her, but doesn't, and Amara kills herself. Amara dies human; Silas crosses over to the Other Side. If the anchor, Amara, dies, the Other Side will disappear. Hence Bonnie's foreshadowing of the last scene of the whole season -- will it be a white light? Will it hurt? -- in her conversation with Jeremy. Quetsyah completes the spell to make Bonnie the anchor somehow only needing Elena to finish it. Cripes -- now I have to start my re-watch again.
