What does Alaric need to apologize for? I'm drawing a blank. Preventing and guilt tripping Damon into NOT killing Kai. Jo, and most probably Elena are dead because he thought he knew best. No biggie. At the moment, still bitter about the wedding, I wish Damon had killed Kai but there was no way Kai was going to die before season's end. Alaric's moment was more of a plot contrivance. Anyway, Damon's good about letting stuff like that roll off. He's never seemed much for apologies.

I can't remember the last time any one got an apology from him...I am still waiting for Matt to beat the ever living crap out Damon, as much as he can any way. Run him over...something.
Damon has hurt these people enough...no one ever owes that clown an apology.

Preventing and guilt tripping Damon into NOT killing Kai. Jo, and most probably Elena are dead because he thought he knew best. No biggie. What was the reason for Alaric not wanting to kill Kai again? I can't remember..or was it just because he was Jo's brother Because Jo convinced him she would be strong enough to beat Kai in the twin merge, and of course she wanted to prevent Liv and Luke merging. Alaric was basically a lovestruck fool, and a hypocrite for calling Damon out, when he was doing the exact same thing. Damon knew Jo wasn't strong enough, and told Ric so, but as usual, no one listens to Damon, and now Elena is dead, and Jo, because of Kai. Damon will be kicking himself for letting Kai go, for giving others their revenge (Bonnie), because if it were up to him, Kai would have been dead months ago. I want to see a vengeful Damon in S7, one that won't listen to those that have used his loyalty, and preyed on his insecurities to tie his arms behind his back, and prevented him from acting on his instincts. I want him to realise that HE was right, and they were wrong, and go off and get his revenge.

Well I can totally see why Alaric would want to not kill Kai right away… he was trying to protect Jo's family. They have all been in the situation of attempting to do things the right way. Damon is always the lets just go straight for the issue without worrying about the collateral damage, but I don't think Alaric should have to apologize. because Luke ended up merging with Kai and him loosing his life because of other's plan failures.

Ric should not have to apologize to Damon because Ric's the one who has paid the biggest price for Kai - Jo and their children are dead. Elena is asleep and will be back. Damon waited 145 years for Katherine so 60 years is nothing. Ric will never see his (almost)wife and children. There is no way Ric could have anticipated letting Kai live would have caused something like this. Damon's instincts are to always kill and in some cases it was completely unnecessary such as with Mason. If perhaps Damon was more selective about who he wanted to kill the group may have listened to him more carefully with Kai but when his solution is to always kill it makes sense the MF group won't go along with him.

He should just stay away from the supernaturals although his first wife was a normie and ended up vampire so maybe the guy is just destined to be alone.

Also pinning everything that has happened on Ric for not letting Damon kill Kai would then mean that Damon also needs to do a bunch of apologizing.
First off Kai was basically neutered when he merged with Luke. Luke's personality gave him a conscious and there was an effort on Kai's part to apologize and make up for his horrific treatment of Bonnie. It wasn't until Damon needed Bonnie that he convinced her to seek revenge out on Kai. It's Kai's being trapped in 1903 that pushed him back into a maniac so this lands as Damon's responsibility as Bonnie would have never sought revenge on her own.
Secondly, in s1 it was Damon's obsession with Katherine that caused Klaus' return to MF. If Damon hadn't opened the tomb then everyone (Klaus) would have thought that she was still in the tomb. Katherine to protect herself, because Klaus was going to kill her because she became a vamp before she could complete Klaus' sick sacrifice, gave up Elena the human Petrova doppelganger so that Klaus wouldn't kill Katherine. All this started with Damon opening the tomb and discovering that Katherine wasn't there.
Obviously in both cases, Damon had no clue that his actions would cause such horrific consequences so he owes no one apologies for these 2 cases (there are plenty of cases where he does owe apologies but that's not what this debate is about). Just as Damon owes no one an apology because of the negative ripple effect of his actions, Ric does not owe anyone an apology either.

Like I said the whole gang has atleast made 1 decision that they have regretted or ended up after nasty affects afterwards. Alaric in this case just LOST everything! Thus his attempt for suicide which also broke my heart. He will forever remember his wife to be dead in his arms and her last moment will be his vows to her. :/ Sent from my SM-G900T using proboards

Just as Damon owes no one an apology because of the negative ripple effect of his actions, Ric does not owe anyone an apology either. The plan for taking Kai to 1903 was to kill him, but he escaped just before Bonnie managed to fatally stab him. Damon helped Bonnie to do this because she made him see just how traumatized she was by him, and exactly what he did to her, something I don't think Damon understood the gravitas of until then. And I disagree that Damon is the reason Klaus came to MF, Katherine was. Katherine had been working for over a year with Mason to get the moonstone, and she already knew of Elena's existence, and was planning to use them as leverage to win her freedom from Klaus. Klaus was coming for Elena regardless, because Kat planned it that way. Anyway, whatever, my original comment was a little bit tongue in cheek, with a grain of truth, but trust the debate to circle around to talking about Damon again.

Do you watch The Originals too?

That man has just the worst luck. Damon doesn't need apologies, and would never demand one, although others seem to demand one from him, to which he has obliged, several times, and especially to Ric. In the early part of the season, Ric was a douche, and he made lots of bad choices, and he apologized for some of them to Elena, and to Stefan, but not Damon, and it was Damon that he probably owed one to the most. No one could've forseen the outcome of not killing Kai, but Damon has 173 yrs of living among the supernatural, and has experiences, intuition and a wisdom of living for that long. Everything in his body was screaming at him to kill the enemy (Kai), and no one listened as usual. More often than not he is right, and the MF crew are wrong. Enzo knows.
