Ok I managed to get the books and I read them. They are only the first 2 of at least 3 and it feels like they are only the first 2 chapters of a 40 chapter story. Very slow moving story but save to read for all ships I think. Even Bamon lovers get their scenes. If you read the sypnosis of the books you know pretty much everything that happens in them. Not much more happened and the story feels like it only just begun when the books ended All in all I'd say they are not bad but don't make me addicted for more either. I'll read the next book if I can get them somehow but I'm not craving for it.

So my tumbler dash had fury and disbelief saying that delena end up together in the last book. So two things could happen. They have changed the story to sell books since de is popular due to ian or they want to give de the book and se the show. I am not feeling great. I dont want to watch season six if de is endgame.

I don't think they have a clue at this point. The show may be influencing the books at this point and meddling at that (if the Smith situation was anything to go by) but they seem so fickle on the matter. DE waited what, 4 seasons before the show decided to go in and now they're going full on with the books too? Maybe give one medium to one base and the other to the other? Bah!

don't forget there are two different books. The ones that were written by the ghostwriter and are now called official and the new ones written by LJ Smith for Kindle world which take a different turn. Stefan thinks he accidently nearly killed Elena in his sleep and compelled everyone to forget he ever existed but although nobody remembers him everyone feels like something is missing. I think there is still the Stelena feeling. One day Elena will remember and she will do everything to find him. And Stefan compelled everyone to think that Damon is Elena's boyfriend. First Damon is happy to finally get the girl but soon he finds out that what Elena wants is not what he wants and things get on his nerves. I think it's something that can happen in the show, too. Damon will get tired of having to worry about Jeremy or Bonnie just to impress Elena. That's not the life he wants with her. And Elena somehow forgot her love for Stefan and at some point she will remember and feel for him again

I am posting the final sentence of The Salvation Unmasked which is written by the ghostwriter and is the official TVD books published through Alloy. I am revealing the official book endgame so please don't read if you don't want to know! {Official book endgame}
'Hello, Elena.' Damon's mouth twisted into its telltale smirk, and Elena knew she was home.
So that's it. DE are official in the books. Now I know why they keep kissing in the show.
I read the last pages as soon as I got the books and then skimmed through the last few chapters to figure out that Stefan is alive and that Elena became human again but chose to leave both brothers so that she wouldn't come between them. Elena moves to Europe and then she sees Damon at the air port and that's when that last line is written. Its actually worse if you read the last few paragraphs because it describes how Elena feels as soon as she sees Damon although the author doesn't reveal which brother Elena is looking at until the last line.
At least I saved myself some time in not reading the last two books because I would have been even more pissed.

napoli thank you. So I'm gonna stick with the LJ Smith storyline and see what happens there. I have a feeling no matter how much Delena she will put into those books Stelena will never get broken

For fans invested in relationships with these series, why do you'll punish yourselves? I'd understand if the handlers had a way with writing a balanced triangle where everyone can enjoy it at some segment or see that the hinge of said triangle was reasonable either way they went but from where I watched to and from what little I've heard about the books after dropping them, they don't. They pander heavily to one side or blatantly slap the other and expect them to take it and come back for another.
TVD just seems like a carnival and it's been that way for a while. Ignore me. I'm someone that thought Rose was perfect for Damon and we know how long ago that was. Someone who thought that certain chances, each brother should have cut their losses with Elena's BS and walked away. Meh.

I haven't read any of the books so am I to assume that if the book series ended with de together then the show will end that way too because if it does then I don't think I can bear to watch S6.

I didn't bother reading the books once I read the ending but the last book I read which was the first of the last trilogy SE were firmly together but Then Stefan died at the end of the book. There had been slight tension between SE but no where near I could imagine they would break up. At this point the show can go either way. The writers have shown DE to be toxic but a lot can change in a season or two.

It's a matter of if they'll go with what works for the story/characters or what works for more viewers. If DE is toxic as characters at this point but brings in viewers, I can see them changing it to be 'healthy' for the 2 just to have a 'win-win' (viewers and a 'working' relationship) by show's end.
Has Smith released any of her stuff?

Has Smith released any of her stuff? Smith has released the first 2 of a trilogy but I haven't gotten my hands on them yet. I always expected the show would have Damon redeemed toward the end of the series thus making it a difficult choice for Elena because both brothers would be worthy. At this point Elena isn't even worthy of either brother. Having the writers change the storyline based on fan service is horrible unless the fan service is to bring KW back.
