jennifer Some interviews about tonight's episode. Tell me what you think about the highlighted parts. Sleepy Hollow EP Weighs In: Did Abbie Really Die in the Fall Finale?
The following post contains major spoilers about Thursday’s Sleepy Hollow. Read on at your own risk… If you’re keeping score at home, that’s Pandora: one, the Witnesses… minus one. Fox’s Sleepy Hollow left viewers on a major cliffhanger Thursday when it ended its fall finale with what looked suspiciously like the death of Nicole Beharie’s Abbie Mills. In the very last moments of the episode, Abbie, Ichabod and Joe stormed Pandora’s lair to rescue Jenny, who’d nearly been consumed by the power of the mystical gem she absorbed a few episodes ago. But their mission was thwarted by Pandora and her resurrected lover, a god (!) known as The Hidden One. Abbie was successful in sucking all the energy out of Jenny’s body… but the volatility of the power threatened to blow the entire town off the map. Realizing what she had to do to save everyone, Abbie told Ichabod and her sister to “Take care of each other,” then carried the glowing orb of potential kaboom into an opening in the trunk of Pandora’s evil tree… just before the glowing orb exploded. When Ichabod came to, he realized that Jenny had survived her ordeal, but Abbie might not have — she was nowhere to be found. The episode closed on him, emotionally gutted, nearly collapsing from the shock of what had happened. Is Abbie really gone?! That’s precisely the first question we posed to showrunner Clifton Campbell when we talked with him about the finale. TVLINE | Is Abbie dead? She makes the decision to save her sister and save Crane and what Team Witness was all about. We don’t quite know where she goes. It’s very disturbing to see her disappear in that way. The astute viewer will notice that there have been things about the tree, the lair and the story we’ve been telling in the first half [of the season] that will suggest what fate Abbie may have met… It’s going to be very daunting and very illuminating when we all realize what happened to her. TVLINE | Will we see Abbie again this season?Don’t you want to watch and find out? [Laughs] TVLINE | What’s Crane’s immediate reaction to what’s happened? At the end of the episode, it’s utter and complete devastation. The most important person in the world, the woman and person he loves most in his life, has been ripped from him and has done so of her own volition… He’s utterly and completely devastated. TVLINE | He has a conversation with Joe earlier in the episode about not doing stupid things to save the people you love. Will Crane take his own advice when it comes to saving Abbie? We’ve all fallen in love, and we’ve all been in love, and we all know that we do some stupid things sometimes for that very important person, that very important touchstone to be a part of your life. This one’s going to challenge him in a way we’ve never seen before.
TVLINE | The ‘shippers are going to enjoy what you just said. To be clear, Ichabod views Abbie as someone he is in love with? I don’t think there’s ever been a question that he’s in love with her. Those are complicated emotions… Crane is trying to find his place in the modern world, and [she’s] someone he had no choice but to immediately partner up with. In essence, it’s a supernatural work relationship. It’s hard to separate those two things out. But I don’t think that anybody who looks at the two of them, particularly when they are looking at each other, can’t see the unquestionable depths of their love for each other. TVLINE | In a flashback, Paul Revere tells Ichabod not to let anyone get too close, because it hurts too much when they’re gone. Along those lines, does the loss of Abbie harden Ichabod at all? He’s not a man who is liberal with extraneous emotions, but this one will find him in a place where we will see a mad desperation turning him to make interesting choices. TVLINE | Abbie and Jenny’s dad, Ezra, is going to show up in the second half of the season. What can you tell me about his arrival? We want to find the emotional equilibrium of all the characters. And once we’re all in the same place emotionally with these characters, it’s utterly and completely critical that the characters reach out to each other for support. Jenny in particular, in her loss, has to reach out to her father, and she does. I can give you this little bit of a spoiler: We’ve got James McDaniels playing Ezra — he’s terrific — and while we have announced that he’s around for one [episode], I feel pretty confident to let you guys know he’ll probably be around for a little more than that. TVLINE | Jenny and Joe kissed right before everything fell apart. Will you pick up with that when the show comes back, or is Jenny not in a place where she’s able to move forward with him?We definitely pick up where that left off. While she thinks she’s not ready for it, what’s happened at the midseason break is something that even through that denial, she finds herself needing even more. And Joe is absolutely the guy to step up and be there for her. TVLINE | Does she have any side effects left over from being the Hidden One’s Eye?There are no lingering effects. TVLINE | Is The Hidden One around for the rest of the season?Yes. Our übercouple, Pandora and The Hidden One, will take us through the back half. TVLINE | They seem to want to restore the world to what it was like when they were in power. What will that look like as we move through the rest of the episode?First we’ll find out a ittle bit more about their origin story. It, too, is also a love for the ages. It isn’t quite the love that we mortals think of, but it also comes with the same checklist of things that you expect from that type of a relationship and that sort of intimacy. It’s just super jacked-up and supernatural. TVLINE | Pandora says something about them having used Witnesses in the past — will we learn more about what that might mean for the current Witnesses?Yes…. We’ll get a lot more of an idea about the role Witnesses have played for thousands of years. tvline.com/2015/11/19/sleepy-hollow-abbie-dies-nicole-beharie-season-4/#more-660437jennifer What do you think about the writer saying that Ichabod is in love with Abbie? I think he is just messing with the shippers and wants people to keep watching when the show returns and is giving them false hope. They've had Abbie encouraging him to go out on dates with whats her name and Ichabod being all excited about it. Does that seem like the actions of someone in love with someone else? I don't think so. I'm glad I'm not a hardcore shipper for these 2 or I'd be ticked. I don't really know how I'd feel if the two of them actually got together. Sometimes I think they have a deeper love than anyone else could understand and you can't really define it and I kinda like it that way. I am anxious to see the lengths that Ichabod goes through to get her back!

Sleepy Hollow’ Boss on How Midseason Finale Shocker Will Change the Show Spoiler warning: Do not read on unless you’ve seen the Nov. 19 midseason finale of “Sleepy Hollow.”
Fox’s “Sleepy Hollow” just delivered a shocking blow to the characters and the fans, as Nicole Beharie’s Abbie Mills sacrificed herself to save her sister Jenny (Lyndie Greenwood) and fellow Witness Ichabod Crane (Tom Mison). With one of the Witnesses seemingly dead, and Pandora (Shannyn Sossamon) and her lover The Hidden One (Peter Mensah) still on the loose, things look bleak for the good guys leading into the back half of the season. Variety spoke to “Sleepy Hollow” showrunner Clifton Campbell on what went into Abbie’s decision, and how her sacrifice will affect the show moving forward. Why did you feel like this was the right time for such a big move?
We felt really good about the relationship that Abbie and Jenny have this season. There’s an awful lot of angst from the first two seasons that they’ve grappled with… This season has been a lot about the support that they have for each other, and starting to live with it as fans and an audience. It’s one thing to see them acting better, but you put enough energy into that relationship and start to see them support each other in a very specific way, and it has more resonance. It just felt right this season, that we could put Abbie’s decision to utterly and completely support her sister, come what may, to the test. And that’s what led us to this sacrifice, and it isn’t just a sacrifice that she makes for Jenny, it’s really for Team Witness, which was really important for us. Death is rarely permanent in “Sleepy Hollow,” so should fans be looking at Abbie’s return as a question of when and how, not if?
I don’t want to tell the audience how they should be looking at it. [Laughs.] I think, like all of us, they should enjoy the episode for what it’s worth and embrace the sacrifice that Abbie Mills makes, not only for her sister but for Crane and this world that they’re inhabiting, and just be utterly and completely surprised at how everybody reacts to this gigantic sacrifice that she makes. How will Jenny deal with the knowledge that Abbie sacrificed herself to keep her safe? That’s a heavy burden to bear.
She would have dealt with it poorly in the way only Jenny can if she didn’t have a moderating influence in Joe and what they’ve just started to find in each other towards the end of the first half of the season. It’s an utterly and completely shocking sacrifice that she sees her sister make, it’s confounding emotionally, it’s devastating personally, and but for the fact that she has someone this season who’s there and can support her, she could’ve very easily gone off the deep end. Joe has been a remarkably successful character to pull into the series, and that relationship is so natural. We knew in the writers’ room what we had with those two and we leaned in because we felt it super early on. It isn’t just two really good-looking people that you enjoy seeing together, it’s profound in its shading; they just feel so good together and it really helps her in the back half with this devastating loss. What lengths will Jenny go to in order to come to terms with this, or perhaps to try and bring Abbie back?
That’s her natural instinct and her comfort zone: action. Without having somebody in her life, she might make more risky decisions. In a very unique set of circumstances, the drastic thing Jenny Mills does is something unexpectedly emotional… It’ll play into this season’s intention to have Papa Mills show up and what that might mean to complete the story for these guys. What else can you preview about Papa Mills’ introduction and his relationship with his daughters?
We’ve cast James McDaniel who’s a phenomenal actor, and James and I have had great conversations about this character. There are a lot of blanks that that character can fill in for anybody who’s a fan of this show, anybody who’s a fan of the Mills family story. All of their angst and the loss and sacrifice that they’ve been living with since day one is going back to their mother, so he can provide a lot of emotional context to the audience which we find very satisfying, and he’s really the perfect guy to play this. Ichabod has already lost his wife, his son and his way of life — how will he cope with losing Abbie?
His devastation really shows in the last 30 seconds of tonight’s episode … for somebody who’s so emotionally well-kept and so completely clear-eyed, the final moments that Tom gives are really brilliant and emotionally wrought with layers and layers that we will see at play and lean into heavily when we come back. This loss is not like any of the other losses in his life – Katrina, his son, any of the loss of his family will pale in comparison to the devastation, and therefore the recklessness, that we see Crane come back with. It reframes him in a very unique and interesting way. Aside from the emotional fallout, what other repercussions will we see from the midseason finale?
Pandora are the Hidden One are not sitting around whining about their loss. This plays very well into their overall agenda, and it’s something they immediately intend to capitalize on, but the sacrifice that Abbie makes obviously throws their plan a little bit asunder, and there’s gigantic fallout from that on the Pandora/Hidden One side. But the thing about Pandora and the Hidden One is that they have a very similar relationship to Abbie and Crane, a love of the ages – when they look at each other, you can see how deeply they care… They have very interesting relationship boxes that they check that are very similar to ours, and that sacrifice that Abbie makes to save the people that she loves the most, ironically throws the Hidden One and Pandora into a very interesting place. How would you describe the back half of the season in terms of tone or energy, following this twist?
When we first start, it’s very driven. When you’re left with a hole this size, people want to fill it in as much as they can, not only in terms of story and character development – we do that rather quickly – the audience can also look forward to the [architecture] of a world Pandora and the Hidden One once had and once ruled over. And their plan to move forward with that and continue their reign of terror and their campaign to restore the world in their image is going to reframe all of our characters in a really fascinating way. I’m absolutely thrilled by the way this season is coming together in the back half. You’ve got an iconic character like Pandora and Pandora’s Box and all we think about when we think about that, and mix that up with a marriage that is 4000 years old and restoring before our very eyes… fans are really gonna love seeing how their origin, and how the origin of the Witnesses and the roles all four of them have been playing throughout the years are really going to come into shape. What I’m most excited about is seeing how the Witnesses are redefined in the back half and what that means for our characters. variety.com/2015/tv/news/sleepy-hollow-abbie-dead-sacrifice-midseason-finale-1201645194/

Yes, no need to spend lots of time analyzing methinks. I thought of TW too! I didn't remember hearing on TW that the Berserkers were Norse. According to my Scandinavian-descended hubby they were real historical warriors who took on a mythological quality in literature, poems, etc., so that was interesting for both SH & TW to have them appear. I'm not sure about your question re: Danny but think you're asking if Danny's boss and/or Danny know more than they're letting on about the demon world? Oh wait, is the "her" you're referring to Abbie or Zoe? I got a sense the boss knows something, still not sure about Danny. It's odd they have an FBI field office in Sleepy Hollow. I'm wondering now if the Egyptian God will be Ra? He's one of the few I remember from that mythology. Ichabod and Joe are a great combo, definitely. Girl troubles. Just the mentioning of Norse gods made me think of TW because I think they made a reference to it. I guess they aren't related to the Berserkers then.I sometimes get all my spn shows and their different mythologies confused between this, TW and SPN! OK about tonight!!! WTH jennifer!!!! I was at the end!!! Abbie sacrificed herself again!!!!Where do you think she went? The Underworld? Why didn't she just throw the stone in the tree and run!!! I was with Jenny, Pandora's man was seriously ugly with him being all decayed looking and she was kissing him like that! Kinda reminded me of The Mummy! It also reminded me of the Mummy when they kept talking about the shard of Anubis because in the movie they had the Bracelet of Anubis. It's one of my favorite movies series. The first 2 are anyway. Back to the show.. It seems like Reynolds might be shady after all. Abbie quit then he called someone to tell them they lost her as a potential asset? Who is this person? The man he spoke to before?Pandora is a bad girl!!! What did she do to Nevins's body? Crane got her box to explode!!! How are they going to get Abbie back!!! Is she going to be ok? Are we going to get to see the Underworld? It's a shame you don't watch OUAT because they're fixing to do an Underworld SL! Sorry I'm really straying here!I'm so glad they were able to save Jenny, but I'm really freaked out about Abbie! The look on Ichabod's face! I just wonder what little Miss Zoe would've done if she'd stumbled on to everything that was going down. How are they doing to explain Abbie's disappearance!!! I can't believe we have to wait till freaking February!!!! Yeah I'm not happy about that at all!!! February?? Noooo Re: what you highlighted in the EW article about love, Abbie and Ichabod have a deep love for each other like you said. It's never struck me as romantic or sexual. The term "in love" doesn't fit for them, if that's what was intended in the colloquial sense. They must love each other for both to continue as witnesses together, putting their lives in each other's hands. So maybe it was a bit of a tease. Another exciting hour, and Abbie must be somewhere b/c of the hints that if viewers followed the clues about the tree, etc. we might guess what's happened to her. Uh...What?!? Like anyone followed all that stuff?? One thing they'll have to convince me of when the show returns is the deep love of Pandora and the Hidden One because they annoyed me tremendously tonight. I'm a little curious about how their history intertwines with the witness lineage, but I'm much MORE interested in how Ichabod, Jenny and Joe will manage and how Mr. Mills factors into the equation. Yeah, sounds like Danny is shady or working for someone shady. No, he must be shady, referring to Abbie as "the asset." Unless he's trying to protect Abbie? I'm definitely watching this ep. again before the season starts. I think there might be clues in the story of Paul Revere and the shard in his time period. I can't make myself watch Pandora's tree story again. Although there were lovely moments with Abbie/Ichabod throughout the first half. I guess I'm not certain Abbie will return in the flesh if this is the last season, even if she's helping from beyond or something like that. What do you think wednesday? Thanks for posting all the links and interviews!!!!

Forgot to say the Variety article was dead on about how well they've built up the sisters' relationship this season. I think we both commented about that throughout the first half of the season. It did make the episode even more heart wrenching to watch.

Thanks for posting all the links and interviews!!!! No problem on the links! As soon as it was over I was looking for some info to give us clues for what's to come and from what they're telling us, I'm not that excited so I beg to differ with the writers from the Variety article! I'm afraid of the same thing you are! That we might not get Abbie back by the sound of things to come and that will tick me off royally if this is the last season!!!! These writers better not mess around. They're getting moved to Fridays which to me isn't a good thing so they need Abbie around as much as possible! Having the lead missing for the rest of the season isn't going to do the show any favors! Fans are like us who tune into see the relationships between Abbie, Ichabod, Jenny and now Joe!!! I love how close the sisters have gotten and the friendship that Ichabod has developed with Jenny as well. She's like his little sister. The four of them are a family now. I wasn't feeling the love for or between Pandora and the Hidden One either. They had more like the ick factor going on! But if I had to take them over the hot mess that was Katrina/Jeremy from last season I'm going to go with this icky duo! It will be interesting to see the history of the witnesses dealing with the 2 of them. I just hope they don't drag it out. I also hope they don't take 4 or 5 episodes to get Abbie back!!! Ratings will plummet! With the dad coming in surely they'll get her back ASAP right? One can only hope!! I hope Danny isn't bad since he and Abbie had a relationship together. He seemed to really care about her. When he was out of his mind and rambling he practically admitted he was in love with her so I hope he doesn't do anything to hurt her and is really trying to look out for her. I'll have to go back and rewatch the season once it gets closer to the premiere again. I think I may have to skip all Pandora's mumbling to the tree too though! This has been a great season so far and I've enjoyed it MUCH more than last season! I hope they don't disappoint us with the remaining episodes especially if it's to be our last season. I'll try to be optimistic!

Sleepy Hollow EP Answers Lingering Q: Which Agent Is the FBI Watching?
After Sleepy Hollow fans got past the shock of the fall finale’s final moments — in which Abbie sacrificed herself in order to save Jenny, Ichabod, Joe and the rest of the town — a small yet important question rose from the rubble: Was Abbie the “diamond in the rough” alluded to by an FBI bigwig the week before? In case you weren’t blessed with Ichabod’s photographic memory, allow us to remind you about the scene, which took place in “The Art of War” episode. When Daniel visited the home of one of his superiors to ask for an extension on the Nevins case, the higher-up asked, “How’s our agent doing? The diamond in the rough?,” and Reynolds replied, “I have no doubt she’ll be one of the very best in the Bureau.” “Good to hear,” his boss said, “because there are eyes on her, as well.” The dialogue, though intriguing, was merely a bit of misdirection, showrunner Clifton Campbell tells TVLine. “Because at that point we didn’t know Sophie was an undercover FBI agent, the audience believed that to be Abbie. But he was actually referencing Sophie,” Campbell says. And speaking of Agent Foster… remember that turncoat tease that came out of New York Comic Con? “It was a nice tease,” Campbell says, adding that it’s already happened — when Sophie revealed herself as an undercover FBI agent (and not the sleazy Nevins gofer we thought she was). “That was in reference to Sophie.” tvline.com/2015/11/23/sleepy-hollow-who-is-turncoat-sophie-abbie-season-3/#more-661510

Question: Please share anything you know about Sleepy Hollow and its residents! — JuliaAusiello: I’ve got intel on a new-old resident who’s going to make his presence known in the new year: Dr. Japeth Leeds, a “handsome, twisted, mysteriously brooding genius” who was Ben Franklin’s biggest competition when it came to alchemy. Sleepy Hollow Casts Knick Playboy as Franklin's 'Twisted Genius' Enemy
Meet Crane’s kindred spirit — in Benjamin Franklin-hating, if nothing else. Sleepy Hollow has cast The Knick‘s Charles Aitken as the founding father’s arch enemy, TVLine has learned exclusively. Per the official character description — which you first read about in a recent Ask Ausiello — Dr. Japeth Leeds is “a twisted, mysteriously brooding genius” whose talents include alchemy. But he becomes so obsessed with besting Franklin that he turns to the Dark Arts. Crane and Leeds come face to face again in modern-day Sleepy Hollow, after Ichabod learns that the doctor “paid the ultimate price when one of his twisted experiments went awry.” In addition to The Knick, Aitken’s TV credits include Madam Secretary and ITV’s Foyle’s War. Aitken will appear in Episode 13. Sleepy Hollow returns — in its new timeslot — on Friday, February 5, at 8/7c. tvline.com/2015/12/24/sleepy-hollow-charles-aitken-cast-season-3-franklin-enemy/#more-669616

Winter TV Preview: Returning Favorites
SLEEPY HOLLOW You've been waiting months to find out if Abbie is truly gone and, thanks to a time jump in the supernatural drama, so has Ichabod. "We wanted the midseason finale to resonate, not just with the audience but with our characters in somewhat of real time, so we were all on pins and needles together," says showrunner Clifton Campbell. In Abbie's absence, "Jenny and Joe become much, much closer," the EP adds, and Pandora and The Hidden One try to get back on track after Ab's disappearing act. "It throws a very big wrench in their plans," Campbell says. We know, we know: You're dying to find out if Agent Mills will be back with her fellow Witness anytime in the near future. Of course Campbell wouldn't confirm or deny, saying only, "Things change dramatically once you take one of the key components out of the dynamic between Crane and Abbie. A lot of questions and a lot of need and desire comes to the surface, and it comes together in a very nice way." RETURN DATE: Friday, Feb. 5 at 8/7c (Fox) tvline.com/gallery/tv-spoilers-2016-season-premieres-photos/#!18/winter-preview-sleepy-hollow/

Sleepy Hollow EPs: Intel on Abbie's Mysterious Dad Isn't 'Necessarily True'
The story of Abbie and Jenny Mills’ deadbeat dad has been canon since Sleepy Hollow‘s first season: Unable to handle his wife’s increasing mental instability, Ezra Mills bailed on his family when the sisters were young. But what if Papa Mills’ story has gotten as twisted as every other historical tale the Fox drama tells? “I think the hardcore fans have always wondered about Dad,” showrunner Clifton Campbell tells TVLine. “There was a picture painted of him early on that was the guy who ran off, who couldn’t deal, and who fled. It’s very nice to find that that’s not necessarily true, and the part of it that is true is much more realized in the back half [of the season].” Adds executive producer Albert Kim: “He’s been a figure of mystery for both Abbie and Jenny for most of their lives,” and once he’s around, it becomes clear how much was “missing from his perspective.” NYPD Blue alum James McDaniel will take on the role when Sleepy returns on Friday, Feb. 5 (8/7c); Kim says that McDaniel’s scenes, so far, have been “awesome” and “amazing,” and that the series is looking for ways to “work him in even more than we have.” (Though he wouldn’t say whether Ezra shows up for the funeral of Abbie — who seemed to perish in the midseason finale — or under some other circumstances.) But does Dad know that one of his daughters is a Biblically foretold Witness to the apocalypse and the other dabbles in demon-fighting? And might he share some of their tendencies toward the occult? “As with everything in Sleepy Hollow, he has more in his past that we don’t know about that will come to bear on Abbie and Jenny’s story,” Kim says. “That’s a big spoiler: whether he’s keyed in or not.” tvline.com/2016/01/19/sleepy-hollow-season-3-spoilers-ezra-mills-truth/#more-675784

Sleepy Hollow Renewed for Season 4Those seven years of tribulation may happen after all: Fox has renewed Sleepy Hollow for a fourth season, TVLine has learned. The news comes after a season that ended in April with the death of Abbie, played by Nicole Beharie, who along with Tom Mison’s Ichabod was one of the biblically foretold Witnesses at the center of the show. At the time of the finale, showrunner Clifton Campbell told TVLine that Beharie “will not return to the show as Abbie Mills,” but added that there was a “possibility” that “reflections of her will be around.” The Season 4 cast list, confirmed by Fox on Friday, includes Mison, Lyndie Greenwood, Lance Cross and Jessica Camacho — but not Beharie, and not Nikki Reed, who TVLine has confirmed is no longer with the series. No word yet on how many episodes Season 4 will comprise. tvline.com/2016/05/13/sleepy-hollow-renewed-season-4-fox/

Fox Boss on Nicole Beharie's Sleepy Hollow Departure: 'It Was a Decision That Needed to Be Made'
Fox’s top entertainment executive is suggesting that the network was left with little choice but to part ways with Sleepy Hollow star Nicole Beharie, whose character, Abbie, was killed off in the show’s Season 3 finale. “There were a variety of factors that led to the end of the season,” CEO Dana Walden told reporters during a Monday-morning conference call to tout Fox’s fall schedule. “It was not a decision that we wanted to make initially. We ended up being put in a situation where that was a decision that needed to be made.” Regarding the controversial decision to move on with a fourth season sans Beharie, Walden said, “What we know is that Tom Mison is a big star. And the Ichabod Crane character has been so central to the series and the storytelling and he feels like an original, big Fox character. “We don’t feel like it has to be the end of the life of the show,” she added. “And while there was backlash [to the Season 4 renewal], there was also a tremendous amount of enthusiasm from fans about the show coming back and about Tom having the ability to be the center of the series and discovering new dynamics and new relationships. It’s a very original premise and we felt like it had greater life in it and that there was no reason to end it.” Walden also denied that Season 4 would serve as the show’s swan song. “We’re not announcing that it’s the final season,” she maintained. “We’re not sure if it’s the final season.” tvline.com/2016/05/16/nicole-beharie-sleepy-hollow-controversy-departure-abbie/#more-714371
