What if you suddenly woke up from the throes of death 250 years in the future to find the world is on the brink of destruction, caused by unimaginable events, and you are humanity’s last hope? Welcome to SLEEPY HOLLOW, the thrilling new mystery-adventure drama from co-creators/executive producers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci (“Star Trek” and “Transformers” franchises, “Fringe”). In this modern-day retelling of Washington Irving’s classic, ICHABOD CRANE (Tom Mison, “Salmon Fishing in the Yemen”) is resurrected and pulled two and a half centuries through time to unravel a mystery that dates all the way back to the founding fathers. Revived alongside Ichabod is the infamous Headless Horseman who is on a murderous rampage in present-day Sleepy Hollow. Bound to the Headless Horseman by a blood spell cast on the battlefield of the American Revolution, Ichabod quickly realizes that stopping Headless is just the beginning, as the resurrected rider is but the first of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. As this re-invented Ichabod finds himself in present-day Sleepy Hollow, he discovers a town and a world he no longer recognizes. All that is brutally familiar are Headless and Ichabod’s determination to annihilate this immortal being. It’s a mission he must complete quickly, as Headless already has viciously slain Sheriff AUGUST CORBIN (guest star Clancy Brown, “Cowboys & Aliens,” “Carnivale”). Grey served both as mentor and father figure to Detective ABBIE MILLS (Nicole Beharie, “Shame,” “American Violet”), a young cop whose own supernatural experiences help her form an unlikely bond with Ichabod. But Sleepy Hollow’s head of police, Captain FRANK IRVING (Orlando Jones, “The Chicago 8,” “Drumline”), isn’t buying any of this. In fact, the only person who is on Abbie’s side is Ichabod. His extensive first-hand knowledge of our secret American history, coupled with her superior profiling and modern threat assessment skills, will make them a formidable duo as they work together to triumph over evil. The complex pasts of Ichabod and Abbie, from Ichabod’s inclusion in the powerful and secretive Freemasons Society and the ghostly appearance of his late wife, KATRINA (Katia Winter, “Dexter”), to Abbie’s childhood visions, will help them solve the intricate puzzles of Sleepy Hollow in order to protect its future. As history repeats itself, the oddly-linked pair will draw on the real stories and hallowed secrets this nation was founded on in their quest to stop an increasingly vicious cycle of evil. SLEEPY HOLLOW is from K/O Paper Products in association with 20th Century Fox Television. The series is co-created by Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci, Phillip Iscove and Len Wiseman (“Hawaii Five-0,” “Underworld” and “Total Recall”). The series is executive-produced by Kurtzman, Orci, Wiseman and Heather Kadin. Iscove serves as supervising producer. Wiseman directed the pilot. CAST: Tom Mison as Ichabod Crane, Nicole Beharie as Abbie Mills, Orlando Jones as Frank Irving, Katia Winter as Katrina Crane.

Sleepy Hollow: Five Things to Know About Fox's Haunting, (Revisionist) Historical New Drama
The drama finds Ichabod Crane (Tom Mison, Salmon Fishing in the Yemen) — AKA the main character in Washington Irving’s ghostly short story “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” — waking up in modern-day New York state centuries after nearly dying in a Revolutionary War run-in with the entity that becomes The Headless Horseman.
Local detective Abbie Mills (Nicole Beharie, 42) is made aware of Crane’s case after the Horseman, also recently awakened via magical mumbo-jumbo, begins a reign of terror in the quiet town of Sleepy Hollow. Together, the pair begin to realize that some seriously evil forces are afoot… and they may be the only people who can stop them.
It’s a big premise, to be sure. Good thing Orci and Kurtzman offered up a few handy tips to keep in mind while watching Sleepy Hollow‘s pilot.
DON’T LOOK BACK IN ANGER |The series relies heavily on flashbacks to Crane’s colonial life, a device that Kurtzman says works well for the procedural/horror series. “On top of the cases of the week, the solutions to the modern-day story is to look to the past,” he said. “And the idea being that if you don’t learn from the past, you’re doomed to repeat it.”
NOT SO BY-THE-BOOK | As we’ve noted before, the good people of Sleepy Hollow have never heard of Irving’s classic tale, and it’s not because the town library’s collection is lacking. “We are trying to create a kind of very unique hero here. You know, no one tells Spider-Man or Batman, ‘Oh, you’re that Spider-Man or Batman from the Stan Lee comic,’” Orci said. The short story, he adds, is “ultimately just a jumping-off point for our series.”
IF THE TURNCOAT FITS | In the very beginning of the pilot, you’ll note that the British Crane is fighting alongside American soldiers. It’s a story tweak that came about after Mison went out for the part, said Orci. “Originally, we were not going to go for an English actor. But when we met him and saw him read, we realized that actually in the day of the Revolutionary War, many of the folks fighting for revolution and for the independence of the country may have recently arrived from the U.K. “
BEHIND THE SCENES OF HISTORY | As the series continues, expect to learn a lot more about certain historical events than your seventh grade teacher ever shared. Kurtzman said the Boston Tea Party, Paul Revere’s ride and the Boston Massacre are all potential fodder for the show’s revisionist history. “Revisiting those events and finding out what was happening on the periphery of those things leads to modern-day discoveries,” he said.
NUMBERS GAME | And what about the 144,000 population figure, highlighted in the pilot, which doesn’t quite reflect the real-life size of the New York hamlet? It “has some relevance biblically,” Orci said reassuringly.

CASTING SCOOP: Sleepy Hollow Exclusive: True Blood Baddie to Butt Heads With Ichabod Life in the future will be no present for Sleepy Hollow‘s Ichabod Crane.
James Frain — one of TV’s go-to guys for playing off-putting, imperious individuals — will guest-star on multiple episodes of Fox’s freshman hit as Rutledge, a modern-day nobleman who will interrogate Ichabod, who is being passed off as a “visiting Oxford professor,” about his past.
What’s more, Rutledge harbors a secret that could affect Ichabod’s future.
Frain’s credits include runs on Grimm, White Queen, True Blood, The Cape, Invasion, 24 and The Tudors, plus guest spots on The Mentalist and Burn Notice.
Sleepy Hollow — which this week delivered Fox’s best fall drama debut in seven years — airs Mondays at 9/8c.

DLed and watched the first episode. As the episode went along and we're given simply clues of something bigger going on, I grew more and more interested in the show. I knew about the Headless Horseman being one of the Four Horsemen but what I got by episode's end was more than I imagined. 2 covens of Witches, a Demon (?) trying to raise the Four but needing Death to get his head back first, Ichabod's wife being trapped, Witches having an extended life span (the father), the scattered unsolved crimes being linked to all this and so on. Right off the bat, the show has done a great job of establishing an interesting world. I. WANT. MORE.
