Much will be revealed during the outing, which takes place during the two-parter slated to air during November sweeps. “We’re going to get to see more of Merida’s backstory in it,” EP Edward Kitsis says. “It’s an epic adventure.” As for how Mulan and Ruby factor into that, Horowitz teases coyly, “You will have fun and adventure,” he says. “We do address where Ruby has been all this time, and that’s part of the story.”

Once Upon a Time Finally Paired Up Captain Hook & Robin Hood—and Sean Maguire Couldn't Be More Excited



There's a new bromance in Storybrooke!

As fans saw in the final moments of last week's Once Upon a Time, a desperate Captain Hook turned to fellow lovelorn Robin Hood to help him discover just what Emma is hiding behind that locked door in her house—and the team-up comes to the absolute delight of one half of Hobin (Rook? This ship name might need some work.), Sean Maguire. The erstwhile Merry Men leader tells E! News that he's looking forward to many, many more adventures with Colin O'Donoghue's Hook.

"All I can say is I hope we see a lot more of it because Colin's one of my best friends and I love him to death and I think he's a terrific actor," Sean tells us. "So it's a double pleasure to film scenes with him because we just get along so well."

Robin and Hook joining forces is just one example of showrunners Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz's desire to put together characters we haven't often seen work as duos in seasons past, much like Hook's team-up with Henry (Jared Gilmore) in the season premiere. With that in mind, who else might Maguire want his character to team up with next?

"I think I've interacted with everyone at this point, but I haven't had a huge amount to do with Snow and Charming, and I love Ginnie [Goodwin] and Josh [Dallas] so working with them a bit more would be fun," he admits. "But I think in this part of the season, we're [working] as a group, because we've all been brought to Camelot and now we've got to figure out how to get ourselves back and save Emma from being the Dark One. And I've got to figure out my parenting situation. So, there's a lot to be resolved. I think the boys Eddy and Adam have already teased that it's going to get darker before it gets lighter."

He's not kidding about that parenting situation. With evil Zelena (Rebecca Mader) pregnant with his child after tricking him into sleeping with her (by posing as the wife she'd murdered, no less!), Robin's relationship with Regina (Lana Parilla) is certainly challenged. So, what's a guy to do? "I think it's a complicated situation that doesn't really have a simple solution," Sean says. "I suppose it's reminiscent of anybody that's been in a relationship and has a child with another relationship and how that crosses lines. In this case, it wasn't with an ex-lover. He thought it was an ex-lover, it was actually a mortal enemy. But there's a baby, and the baby still has to be looked after regardless of who made it."

As upstanding a guy as Robin may be, Maguire tells us that there's little love there between his character and Zelena. "Obviously if the baby wasn't there, despite his moral compass, I think he'd be quite glad if she was no longer alive," he says. "She killed his wife, and she killed many of his friends, and she's just pure evil. There doesn't seem to be a great deal of redemption in her worth saving, but we'll have to see how the season plays out."

Looks like a certain former resident of Oz better watch her back once her baby's born.

The Hot Seat: Once Upon a Time bosses answer your burning questions



As the Dark Swan continues to wreak havoc in Storybrooke, EW has decided it’s time to put Once Upon a Time executive producers Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis in The Hot Seat, where they have the option of answering your questions from Twitter with “Yes,” “No” or “Can’t say.” Get the scoop below:

Did Emma (Jennifer Morrison) cast the curse herself?
EDWARD KITSIS AND ADAM HOROWITZ: Can’t say.

Is there any meaning behind Emma’s house number 710?
KITSIS: Yes. By the way, the meaning behind it is it’s the Grateful Dead House on Haite Ashbury, which is really for me and Josh Dallas. The rest of our fans don’t care about the Grateful Dead. Every once in a while, we’ll stick in an Easter egg just for us, so I don’t want our fans to start combing through what 710 means. If they’re interested, I would say start with “American Beauty” and then get some bootlegs.

Does Emma have a heart in her body at the moment?
HOROWITZ: Yes.

Will we see who put the sword back in the stone?
HOROWITZ: Yes.

Is there a chance Guinevere (Joana Metrass) is pulling Arthur’s (Liam Garrigan) strings and orchestrating all of this?
KITSIS: Can’t say.

Will Arthur show any remorse for his actions?
HOROWITZ: Yes.

Did Cora (Barbara Hershey) lie about killing Lancelot (Sinqua Walls)?
KITSIS: Yes.

Does Lancelot’s return cause a divide between Snow (Ginnifer Goodwin) and Charming (Josh Dallas)?
KITSIS: Abso-f—ing-lutely.

Will baby Neal ever exhibit magic?
KITSIS: Only if we get to season 10. I don’t even think he’s crawling yet.

So far, Dark Swan has talked to Henry (Jared Gilmore), Regina (Lana Parrilla), Hook (Colin O’Donoghue) and the dwarves. Will she talk to Snow/Charming soon?
HOROWITZ: Yes.

Snow and Charming are standing up for their daughter now, but is there a line she could cross that would change that?
KITSIS: Sure.

Will Hook being able to take a heart be revisited this season?
HOROWITZ: Yes.

Is Hook’s father (Adam Croasdell) alive in present day?
HOROWITZ: Can’t say.

Are the symbols on Hook’s ring a clue to his past?
KITSIS: Yes.

Will we get to see Hook’s brother Liam again?
KITSIS: Yes.

Will Regina and Henry do a mother-son operational team up in their efforts to bring Emma back to herself?
KITSIS: I think so. I think they’re already in on it.
HOROWITZ: There is certainly mother-son action to come between Regina and Henry.
KITSIS: The question I would’ve asked is: Is there any Emma-Henry team-up, but no one asked that, so I won’t answer.

Will Emma also use love as a weapon on Henry?
KITSIS: Absolutely.

Will we see Henry use his Author abilities before the season finale?
HOROWITZ: Can’t say.

Will Dark Swan have something to say about Henry and Violet (Olivia Steele-Falconer)?
HOROWITZ: Yes.

Will Regina’s belief in Emma play a big part later?
KITSIS: Yes.
HOROWITZ: Absolutely.

Will we ever see Robin Hood’s (Sean Maguire) backstory and the dark side that we’ve heard so much about?
KITSIS: Second half of the season, absolutely.

Will Zelena’s (Rebecca Mader) baby be born in another realm?
HOROWITZ: Can’t say.

Will we see Belle (Emilie de Ravin) confront Regina over taking her heart?
KITSIS: She is unaware that it happened.
HOROWITZ: In the immediate future, no, but never say never.

HOROWITZ: Not immediately, but hopefully at some point.

KITSIS: There’s always a chance.
HOROWITZ: He’s quite the grandpa.

Could Gold be the new savior?
KITSIS: Can’t say.

Will Rumple have any kind of magic?
HOROWITZ: No.

Any chance to actually see Rumple’s mother?
KITSIS: There is a chance.

Are you going to incorporate a Rumple Bumple?
KITSIS: To be determined.

Has the Blue Fairy (Keegan Connor-Tracy) met Merlin (Elliot Knight) in the past?
KITSIS: She said last year no one has heard from him.
HOROWITZ: She has heard of him.
KITSIS: She referred to him as the Sorcerer last year, not as Merlin.
HOROWITZ: In an upcoming episode, it should be quite clear why no one has heard from him and why she hasn’t met him.

Are Aurora (Sarah Bolger) and Phillip (Julian Morris) also returning?
KITSIS: Hopefully.
HOROWITZ: We love Aurora and Philip.

While Emma is evil, will we see her interact with Lily (Agnes Bruckner) at all?
KITSIS: No.
HOROWITZ: Not in the first half of the season.

Is August (Eion Bailey) aware that Emma is the Dark One?
HOROWITZ: He is aware, but he’s right now busy writing on his typewriter in Geppetto’s garage. We love Eion, we love August. He’s not quite part of the first half of the season adventure, but we want to have him back when the story is appropriate. We can just assume that, right now, he’s a very interested party on the sidelines.

You defined the second half of the season as hell at NYCC. Does this mean you’re introducing the underworld mythology?
HOROWITZ: Can’t say.

Since David Anders is returning, can we hope to see Rose McIver back as Tink someday?
KITSIS: You know what, we absolutely can hope. We just saw her in Vancouver. We’re trying to figure it out. We want her back, she wants to come back. She has a hectic schedule, but we’re going to do our best.
HOROWITZ: We’re going to try to make it happen.
KITSIS: It’ll be the second half of the season, but we’re absolutely trying.
HOROWITZ: Hopefully the stars will align and she can return, because we all want it to happen.

Will there be a wedding this season?
KITSIS: Can’t say.
HOROWITZ: I mean, we’d love to say, but we can’t.

Any chance we’ll see Barbara Hershey or Rose McGowan as Cora again this season?
HOROWITZ: Again, we’d love to say, but we can’t.

Will there be more death this season?
KITSIS: Absolutely. People die.

Why is it that Regina ripping Belle’s heart out hasn’t been dealt with on Once Upon a Time? Will it be? –Intarr
I get a lot of emails about this, and though I always assumed that Belle gave Regina carte blanche to do whatever needed to be done in that Season 4 episode, I was wrong. (It happens!) “As far as Belle is concerned, she didn’t know,” series co-creator Adam Horowitz makes clear. “Regina came to talk to her, spelled her, took the heart and controlled her, told her to forget it and undid it.” (Worse, Horowitz quips, “Regina did not leave a driver’s license or a deposit.”) Co-creator Eddy Kitsis reckons that if a day comes “when Belle does find out, she won’t be happy! Belle doesn’t take any s—t.” (Ed. Note: Horowitz has clarified recent comments on this topic, acknowledging that Belle does know but has yet to act on it.)

Ausiello: The show is casting a mysterious, dangerous and vindictive God-like figure known obscurely as “Distinguished Gentleman” or “DG.” Given that series co-creator Eddy Kitsis summed up Season 5B as “hell,” which quickly sparked speculation that the ABC series next will brave the Underworld, one must wonder if they’re thusly casting a very dapper Devil.

I'm really enjoying this season..... I can't wait to see what pushed Emma full dark.

I'm looking forward to this episode too. I have a feeling that is what's going to push her is her parents and what Arthur and Gwen did to them.  They weren't in their right minds when they were in Camelot so I think that is going to come into to play. They're going to convince Regina of course because why wouldn't she believe them. I wonder what Hook and Henry will think and if they fall for it? Arthur is disgusting with what he did to Gwen. He's no better than Zelena tricking Robin with magic. Basically keeping her with him against her will. I wonder if that secret will come to light and the spell can be broken. I felt so sorry for Lancelot. He and Merida met in Camelot so I'm looking forward to seeing what sort of trouble they get into, but I wonder what happens to him. Everyone else is SB? The casting they did for young Arthur was spot on.

gclm How'd you feel about that "training session" between Merida and Rumple? I know she's being forced against her will because of Emma, but that was kinda hard to watch. I felt really sorry for him. He's cripple for crying out loud. I don't like seeing Rumple this defeated. Yes I know I've ranted about all the horrible things he's done, but I can't imagine going the ENTIRE season without Rumple having powers! Next week looks like it's going to get even worse for him and Belle. Seriously Emma WTH!! A bear?

Poor Henry! My heart broke for him and poor Violet! We didn't learn till the end why Emma did what she did, but the look on Henry's face! I'm dying to know now that Merlin is free why Emma is still the Dark One and where the heck is he! I think the Dark One that put him in the tree was his true love and that's why he couldn't kill them. What do you think?
