Once Upon a Time’ Creators Talk Unlikely Alliances, Two-Hour Episode in Season 5
“Once Upon a Time” star Jennifer Morrison (who plays Emma Swan) and creators Adam Horowitz and Eddy Kitsis visited New York Comic Con on Friday afternoon to discuss what’s ahead for season 5, presenting a preview of Sunday’s episode for a packed house. After the screening, Kitsis and Horowitz spilled plenty of hints about what fans can expect in upcoming “OUAT” episodes. Here’s what we learned: — The creators are planning an extended two-hour episode to air on Nov. 15, which will feature an adventure with characters Merida (Amy Manson), Mulan (Jamie Chung) and Ruby (Meghan Ory). Later this season, the show will air its 100th episode, which is slated for March 6. — The producers are also currently casting a young version of Hook (Colin O’Donoghue) and his father for a flashback to the pirate’s childhood. — An upcoming episode will focus on Lancelot (Sinqua Walls) and delve deeper into the iconic love triangle between him, Guinevere (Joana Metrass) and Arthur (Liam Garrigan). — The fourth episode of season 5 will also feature an unlikely team-up between Hook, Robin Hood (Sean Maguire) and Regina (Lana Parrilla), for reasons that will become clear in this Sunday’s installment. — Fans can also look forward to “an adventure with Hook and the Evil Queen” in the first half of the season. — Merlin (Elliot Knight) might’ve seemed ominous when he appeared as an usher at a movie theater and issued Emma a prophetic warning, but the producers assure us “he’s a good force.” — Morrison describes Dark Swan as “complicated,” because “Emma is still the savior — it’s not that she’s not Emma. She’s the savior with darkness in her… a cauldron of constant conflict. At certain times the dark is winning and sometimes the light is winning.” This will create plenty of contradictions in her behavior as she attempts to earn Hook and Henry’s trust, Morrison teases. “The struggle that she’s going through internally is very real and very intense and it’s been a lot of fun to play.” — The producers ominously preview that out of everyone’s story lines this season, “Henry’s will break your heart,” but “the others are definitely a roller coaster.” — Much like previous seasons, the second half of the season will contain a different arc from the first half. How would the producers describe the second half of the season? “Hell,” Kitsis deadpans. variety.com/2015/tv/news/once-upon-a-time-season-5-hook-father-merida-ruby-mulan-episode-1201614804/

Once Upon a Time' Creators, Jennifer Morrison Discuss Dark Swan's "Constant Conflict"
With Once Upon a Time now in its fifth season, Emma's (Jennifer Morrison) transformation to Dark Swan has reinvigorated the actors and creators behind the ABC drama. "It's been a really wonderful challenge to get to start season five of a show and get to basically start something new," Morrison said during the show's New York Comic Con panel. "It's been actually really fun. The struggle she's going through internally is really intense." Once Upon a Time co-creators Adam Horowitz and Eddy Kitsis shared that they had thought about the twist for a bit, but first wanted to put Emma through the trials she went through last season: get the warning, fight against it and still opt to make the sacrifice. With the extra time to prep, the creators and Morrison were able to collaborate on Dark Swan's very distinctive look. "I've never felt so trusted by my bosses," Morrison said. "We spent a long time going back and forth through images [and pieces of writing]… we picked out the things we loved, and from that, we built Dark Swan." As the show explores Dark Swan, Emma's savior status is still intact; it's just ... complicated. "Emma is still the savior," Morrison explained. "It's not that she's not Emma. She's the savior with darkness in her. Emma is a constant cauldren of conflict. She's in a constant conflict with dark and light ... [and sometimes] doing things for the right reasons but doing it in a dark way." Looking ahead, the show will do a two-hour episode in November, and part of it will be an adventure featuring Merida (Amy Manson), Ruby (Meghan Ory), and Mulan (Jamie Chung). Another unlikely duo teaming up? Hook (Colin O'Donoghue) and Regina (Lana Parilla). The creators are also they are looking to cast Hook's father for an upcoming episode. (They were, however, mum about whether Emilie de Ravin's real-life pregnancy will be written into the series.) www.hollywoodreporter.com/live-feed/once-a-time-new-york-831085?utm_source=twitter

‘Once Upon a Time’: Storybrooke’s ‘purest’ hero is the last person you’d expectRumpelstiltskin (Robert Carlyle) is out of his coma and he’s got a new heart, which could mean quite the character twist for “Once Upon a Time’s” staple villain. Executive producers Adam Horowitz and Eddie Kitsis teased before the Season 5 premiere that fans would see Mr. Gold/Rumpelstiltskin in a way they haven’t seen him before, and the final moments of episode 3 deliver on that promise. Dark Swan (Jennifer Morrison) has awoken Mr. Gold from his coma and has plans for him and his “blank slate” heart. That’s right, the blackness that once consumed Rumple’s heart has been wiped clean which means he gets a true chance to start over. Swan for one is keen on him using the chance to finally be a hero. Actually, she wants him to be the “purest” hero and she’ll help him get there. Of course, the purity is important because that’s the quality Emma needs in whoever will help her pull Excalibur from its stone. Regardless of her motives, Rumple as Storybrooke’s white knight provides and interesting new direction for the character who has struggled, to say the least, to stay on the right side of things since the beginning. Whether or not Gold is inevitably the one to pull Excalibur from the stone (though that would be awesome), a pure heart could increase his chances of making up for past transgressions with Belle (Emilie de Ravin). He’s just woken up though, so it remains to be seen if Gold will still have to fight his hunger for power or whether that’s been taken away with the darkness as well. “Once Upon a Time” Season 5 continues on Sundays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC. zap2it.com/2015/10/once-upon-a-time-season-5-rumpelstiltskin-new-heart-hero/

Once Upon a Time exclusive: EastEnders star booked as Hook's father
EastEnders star Adam Croasdell has been tapped to play Hook’s father on Once Upon a Time, EW has learned exclusively. Details on his role are being kept under wraps, but executive producers Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis recently announced his arrival at NYCC, where they divulged that an episode prior to the show’s winter break would delve into Hook’s (Colin O’Donoghue) past. The only thing we know about Hook’s father so far is that he abandoned his son. Just a shot in the dark, but with Hook’s real name being Killian Jones, maybe his father is Davy Jones? Croasdell’s other credits include Supernatural, Body of Proof and Nikita. www.ew.com/article/2015/10/14/once-upon-time-adam-croasdell-hook-father
