Looking back, I don't think the show should've killed Katherine. Her whole mantra was she was a survivor, and I think the show should've stuck to that by keeping her alive. Find a way that makes sense and make it happen. The character is too good to let go of. Not to mention a ratings grabber.

I think Elena was only "unfortunate" because she made so many bad decisions:
1. Knowingly dating a vampire. 2. Continuing to be stuck between two vampire brothers after a warning from her mother that she would end up dead, which actually happened three times. 3. Not saying "Kill the vampire that started all of this!" when Klaus, who was going to kill one of them anyway, gave her a choice: Stefan or Aunt Jenna? (And this happened AFTER she apologized to Jenna for sneaking around with two vampires) 4. Going along with the plan to bring back the witch that cursed Klaus to begin with. In what universe would that have ended well? 5. Forgiving Damon for convincing Matt to trigger a series of events that got Elena turned and REALLY ruined her life. 6. Willingly getting together with Stefan's brother AT ALL. 7. Staying with Damon after finding out that he snuck around behind her back killing her friend's family. You'd think he would have stopped if he cared about Elena. 8. Getting back together with Damon after finding out that he murdered her friend while she was sealed up in someone's burned-up corpse. 9. Forgiving her so-called friends for taking 3 weeks to figure out she was possessed when there were a multitude of red flags. 10. Actually wanting back memories of being in love with Damon after reading a warning from herself not to do it. 11. Taking the cure, getting her life back, and deciding she wanted to stay in a co-dependent relationship and tear apart two brothers by making one of them human.
I can go on and on, but Elena had more good qualities than bad ones, which is why the writers should have allowed her the chance to clean up her life. Season 6, at least, should have ended with Elena leaving Mystic Falls and the Salvatore brothers behind for greener pastures. The problem wasn't Katherine's death. It's that the main character of the show wasn't properly written off.

I can't believe I'm about to say this, cause now I look forward to new seasons of TVD with the anticipation of a dental appointment, but honestly I'm tired and bored, and I want something else to talk about. Whatever this new seasons brings, I don't care, cause at-least we'll have something to discuss and analyze. It's definitely better than nothing at all. That's for sure.

I wonder if Elena would've been so quick to give up 60 years of her life if she had to worry about being old when she woke up? I mean... it's a lot easier to give everything a thumbs ups when that doesn't factor into things. She'll still be young and beautiful when she wakes up, not to mention her "boyfriend" being there to greet her. Hmm... maybe Kai should've given more thought to this revenge plan of his, cause there's an awful lot of conveniences in it.

That whole ending from season 6 is laughable and doesn't get better the more you think about it. And this season we get drunk and sad Damon to start off with just like last season started with drugged and sad Elena. um...yay?

And this season we get drunk and sad Damon to start off with just like last season started with drugged and sad Elena. um...yay?According to TVD's logic, it's called "progress." lol Cause at-least it's Damon this time around. Sigh! Seriously though, Julie talks about "change" with each new season, but it's all just window dressing, cause the same absurdities still apply. Damon will still be a jerk; an even bigger one this season! Yay, can't wait for that. Stefan will still be chasing after Caroline, as if she's some lost treasure. Of course, she's suddenly "the one", whereas Elena was just a girl he knew. Sigh! And then there's Bonnie, who I'm sure will have a promising start, but will suddenly be shoved in the background on one of her many "side stories" this show is famous for. Oh yeah, can't forget about Matt! I know the show likes to, but it's nice to just acknowledge his presence once in a while. And who will be beating the crap out of him this time around? The heretics? Lily? Unnamed villain of the week? I'm sure it will be someone. When has this guy ever caught a break? Sigh! Tyler: He's still off the show, right? No? Maybe? Whatever. Even when he was on the show, he was off it, so how is this any different? See you at the next "funeral" Ty! Make sure you wear a tux, okay! You always look good in those. Alaric, my friend. I was so happy when you came back. But then that was smash to bits when I realized you were just a pawn in Julie Plec's game. No character development whatsoever, just a tool to be used at her whim. First, there was giving up your badass, original status. But wait, not before you served your true purpose: to mind-wipe Elena! After that, it was the basement for you. And not the Salvatore dungeon, where you can have visitors and refreshments. But a light-less Siberian gulag, where your only friend is the mouse that runs around in your cell. But you ate him, cause you were pretty hungry, so sorry about that! But then you were rescued with a decent storyline: Yay Jo! But oh no, not again! Not another one of your girlfriends dying? They wouldn't... would they? They did! Bastards!!! How could they!?! And your unborn kids too! Just when I thought they had changed? Story of your life, ah? But look on the bright side: you made it to next season! Of course, you'll be a miserable drunk, but yay for job security! Enzo, Enzo, Enzo. What can I say about you that hasn't already been said in four and five-letter words? But I'll keep it polite. Have you really given up on your ridiculous revenge fantasy/weird man-crush on Stefan? Is that even a possibility in your warped world-view? You said you did, but who knows, you could just be telling us what we want to hear. You could be cooking up an even bigger diabolical scheme to unleash on poor Stefan. And how exactly will Sarah Salvatore fit into it this time? Unwitting pawn, or willing participant? I'm sure you'll decide, but whatever the case, please give her some personality, cause yikes, the girl could be a stand in for the walking dead! Are you sure she's even alive? I've seen more personality from a coma patient! Get on that stat Enzo, cause we only have one more season to go. (Psst... don't tell Julie that. It makes her very angry. And you don't want to see Julie when she's angry. Cause she'll huff, and she'll puff, and she'll give us more Delena. And trust me, no one wants to see that!) In closing, everything will pretty much be status-quo on this show. As long as the writers remain gut-less, very few things will change. I would say I'm looking forward to the heretics -- who I'm sure will speak with an impeccable modern accent for people recently trapped in a 1903 hell dimension; not to mention having the latest technological gadgets and fashion-forward clothing -- but then I'll be lying. Julie compares them to the Originals, but I highly doubt that, cause I don't see them having the charm and complex dynamic of the Originals. They'll be more like a poor man's version, just like the last few seasons have been of this once great show. October can't come fast enough!

To me this says it all. gut-less is exactly what the writers have been on this show. And everything I have read about this season so far just shows that it will hardly be the reboot and freshness this show desperately needs. Its like watching this show die a slow, long, agonizing death, in which everything is awkward, uncomfortable, and cringe-inducing. And you just want it to stop. Even the best of shows can have an off season, referred to as "seasonal rot", but TVD's rot was s5 and s6 was supposed to bring it out of its rot only to further bury itself. The pillars of its own mythology are being crushed by the weight of its own writers logical fallacies. Pretzel logic, everything in knots and ends up a hot mess. That is just poor showrunning.

There's a possibility this season could be duller than dullena..nah..... If the "vitches" don't make a big splash (red I assume) I don't think the other SL's will make 22 eps. crimmyj the time this season is over we'll all be alcoholics like Damon and Alaric. I'm sure Damon will pull himself together and start planning his HUMAN life with Elena..... nothing says Bonnie will make 60 more yrs, and I'm sure he will want to provide for Elena and the twins... (Ima and Youra, lol) No compelling what you want Damon! But looking over Damon's skill set to make money, it's either Bourbon taster or hitman..... he does flip a mean pancake, so maybe an IHOP franchise. Surely he won't spent every day trying to out drink Alaric...... "Poor me Damon" is worst than "insecure Damon" I curious how TPTB will handle Candice's pregnancy. She starting to show quite a bit (congrats to her).... Still it almost guarantees no sheet time for Steroline. We at least have that to be thankful for.... Thank you Candice Accola King.... What a way for a once great series to go out..... sad.

I still don't get why they had to kill off Liv and Josette. Alaric and Jo would have been great together this season.

I don't get why they didn't do more with the Gemini coven storyline, screw it lets just kill them all and start with an even more convoluted Heretic storyline. I still don't get the point of Sarah Salvatore at all or Enzo's storyline in regards to it. Enzo has been on the show for almost 2 seasons and still has no point. And what was this badass Bonnie that was supposed to return who ended up being used and needing to be saved once again. I could go on but then it just depresses me.

Enz-hole was only going to do a few eps in S5, then twitter birds fell in love with his accent because of Klaus..... OMG, girl, do you still not know what drives the TVD franchise? Stock the cabinet, we have at least half a season to get ready for. lol

I still don't get why they had to kill off Liv and Josette. Alaric and Jo would have been great together this season. Maybe since TVD is not a 100% sure renewal candidate anymore it's difficult to engage the actors for longer. They might want to do a few episodes and earn some good money but after that they want to be free for other offers. So it's difficult for the writers to plan long storylines with them. Just my guess though
