When her children become the focus of the Siren’s latest plan, Caroline (Candice King) takes drastic measures to ensure nothing gets in the way of keeping her family safe. In a race against the clock, Stefan (Paul Wesley) pledges to do everything he can to save the twins, while tensions between Alaric (Matt Davis) and Caroline boil over, leading them to face some harsh realities about the future of their family. Meanwhile, when Enzo (Michael Malarkey) finds himself unable to fight off Sybil’s (guest star Nathalie Kelley) latest move, Stefan dives into his subconscious and along the way, sets off a chain of events that leaves him faced with a life-changing decision. Kat Graham and Zach Roerig also star. Paul Wesley directed the episode written by Alan McElroy (#806). Original airdate 12/2/2016.

I thought this was a very solid and credible episode. Beautifully shot, especially the pool scenes. Terrific performances from Enzo (yes, I said it) and Bonnie. It was almost a better quality do-over of the season 7 finale. That being said: Caroline taking the ring off and putting it back on again?! What the hell, lady? She was kind of a blank and somewhat too beautifully made up for the circumstances of having her children be abducted. The violence of Enzo's torture was too casual, as has been the violence all season. It is almost like the producers have to make the Sirens so gross just to prevent themselves from spinning them off into their own series. It is also clear that they consider the Salvatores expendable now that the series is finite. This whole "darkness follows vampires" is moralistic baloney. It is Mystic Falls: darkness follows all supernaturals. Knowing that Ric was the dope for leaving his kids with Silene and is already going to pop up in New Orleans on The Originals made the whole taking off to protect his children somewhat laughable. I would like to know how the Damon constituency took to the episode as the Stefan folks have seen our guy go grey twice, and it still makes me shake my fists at the screen every time. XOX I love you, Demetra

Yes this episode was pretty good. and how do you know Alaric was going to new orleans? Caroline forcing stefan to do whatever it took and then crying about him giving his soul away didnt really buy me over. We know Stefan would give his life if he had to help another.
I cant believe Ric and Matt actually took to killing Damon. I know hes done crazy stuff and there are always close to killing him off but wow they actually did it. THe impact wasnt dramatic for me though since i know at this point damon cant just die. atleast right now.
I really enjoyed Bonnie and Enzo I kind of wish we would have seen more of the exploration of them coming to actually being a couple.

I don't remember the source but I read somewhere that Alaric was going to appear on The Originals -- I thought they said New Orleans?
