After eight years of tears, romance, and intense supernatural drama, The Vampire Diaries is coming to an end. Executive producer Julie Plec made the bittersweet announcement during the show’s final panel at San Diego Comic-Con, and judging by the slew of passionate reactions, it seems many fans were just as saddened by the news as we were.
However, before you wallow too long in a pool of misery, please remember there are still sixteen amazing episodes full of adventure, heartache and Mystic Falls mayhem ahead of us. From bringing back familiar faces (including EP Kevin Williamson) to treating viewers to a bit of happiness to basing upcoming episode titles on popular lines from season 1, the writers are hard at work steering each character’s journey full-circle while paying tribute to TVD’s roots.
“We are just in the early stages of writing the scripts, but every day in the room, we talk about different ways we can celebrate the first season,” Plec revealed during a roundtable interview in the SDCC press room. “There’s a pitch on the table now about the Miss Mystic Falls Pageant, the Decade Dance and the Founder’s Day, going back to the idea of the root of the founding families and seeing the history of Season 1 played out from a different perspective. There are all kinds of different tricks and tools and fun things we’re trying to do. We’ll see if we actually do them, but that’s definitely our intention.”
And what better way to kick off a nostalgia-drenched season than by choosing a title that best captures the Salvatore brothers’ complicated-yet-beautiful bond? Take a look:

"What can you tell us about the premiere?" Plec: "It's called 'Hello Brother' which is one of our most famous lines from the show..." #tvd

Yep, that’s right. Episode 8×01, which airs Friday, October 21, is called “Hello, Brother,” AKA the first line Damon Salvatore ever uttered on the hit CW series.
Naturally, lots of people took to Twitter to express their excitement over the significance of this line, including Luke, who’s best known in the fandom as @eldestdamon. “Look how far they’ve come, though,” he mused. “When that was first said, the brotherhood between them was broken, and [according to] what Stefan believed, doomed beyond repair; now you have Damon once again reckless, but this time Stefan is going to fight for him.”
Aw, talk about parallels! We seriously couldn’t have said it better ourselves.
