Originals Boss Talks Extended Season 4 Time Jump, Teases TVD's New Theme
Heads up, vampire enthusiasts: The following article requires you to do a little bit of math. (I know, I’m sorry.) While fans of The Originals are justifiably disappointed that they’ll have to wait until early 2017 for their fix of Mikaelson madness, The CW’s decision to delay Season 4 actually worked in the show’s favor — at least as far as its timeline is concerned. “When they shifted the air date, it actually gave us the freedom, weirdly, to shift the timeline in our favor so that we could have more time pass in The Originals between seasons than The Vampire Diaries,” executive producer Julie Plec explains to TVLine. “So we get to add an extra couple years on to our time lapse between seasons. It’s actually a good thing. It’s positive to not have to worry about being side by side.” As for TVD — which returns Friday, Oct. 21 at 8/7c — Plec says she’s “really excited” about Season 8’s theme, “which should become very clear the minute [The CW starts] announcing episode titles.” Sadly, that theme probably won’t involve the return of a certain ’90s-loving Gemini witch, much to Plec’s dismay. “Every day in the writer’s room, we’re pitching Kai comeback ideas,” she says. “Maybe one day we’ll hit on a good one!” On the bright side, Containment‘s Christina Moses will remain in the fold, playing a bisexual werewolf in The Originals‘ fourth season, while Kristen Gutoskie is joining The Vampire Diaries as the nanny of a pair of supernatural girls. Plec says her dream is “to be able to find ways to get [Containment‘s] George Young, Demetrius Bridges and Zach Unger somewhere into the Vampire/Originals universe.” tvline.com/2016/07/18/the-originals-spoilers-season-4-time-jump-julie-plec-interview/#more-732697

The Originals @ Comic-Con: Hayley's Journey, a Grown-Up Hope, the Future of 'Haylijah' and More Season 4 Scoop
A motley (yet smolder-y) crew of witches, vampires and hybrids on Saturday descended upon San Diego Comic-Con to preview The Originals‘ upcoming fourth season. Stars Joseph Morgan, Daniel Gillies, Phoebe Tonkin, Charles Michael Davis, Yusuf Gatewood and Riley Voelkel — along with executive producers Julie Plec and Michael Narducci — were all on hand to tease the madness to come when the show returns midseason on The CW. Here’s what we learned: * A short video confirmed Season 4’s extended time jump, and ended with Hope asking — yes, asking, as in talking — Hayley if they’re going to go save her dad. Narducci later confirmed the five-year time jump. * “She was two years old when we left her … and she’s now a little person,” Narducci said of Hope. “She’s got dialogue and hopes and dreams, and she misses her dad and understands her family has suffered a great loss. … Hayley’s a great mom.” * “When we met Hayley, all she ever wanted was family,” Tonkin acknowledged. “Through the events that happened, she created a family on her own with her daughter. I don’t think she feels alone — one, because she has five bodies in the back of her car — and because she has a purpose, a family-driven purpose.” * Hayley’s journey to save everyone will require her to “locate the seven werewolf packs … so she has a very difficult journey ahead of her,” Narducci said. “She has to explore the werewolf side that’s going to connect her to those packs.” * “I don’t think Marcel is a villain,” Narducci said. “I don’t think he’s wrong. … We’ll have to see if there’s anything in the world that might be able to mend these fences.” * We’ll “absolutely” learn more about Vincent’s backstory, Narducci confirmed. * “With Hayley and Elijah, we felt they’d gotten to dance around each other early on, then become terribly separated, emotionally and physically,” Plec said. “Knowing this family was going to be split apart for the next five years, giving them the opportunity to [get together one more time] felt right. … Time will tell how much happiness they’re able to have — or not have.” * “It was emotional,” Morgan said of his all-day final shoot with Leah Pipes. “She’d been a part of the show for three years. It was surreal, though. Until she was gone, I didn’t think she was going.” * On why Cami and Davina’s deaths were necessary: “It’s a hard thing to explain,” Plec began. “You start to feel a redundancy of heroes. If you continue down a certain storyline, you’ll end up taking people in a direction that will isolate them. You get the urge to mix things up and to make things very tragic … so that you can always feel fresh, and you don’t have nine people telling the same story. … We needed to pull the family as tightly together as possible, and excise some of the characters who might conflict with [that plan].” tvline.com/2016/07/23/the-originals-spoilers-season-4-comic-con-panel-recap-2016/#more-734948

The Originals Adds Sleepy Hollow Alum Neil Jackson as Season 4 Vampire
The Headless Horseman is making tracks for New Orleans. Sort of. Neil Jackson, Ichabod’s friend-turned-frenemy on Fox’s Sleepy Hollow, will recur on The Originals‘ upcoming fourth season, series star Joseph Morgan revealed to reporters in the press room at San Diego Comic-Con. Little is known as about Jackson’s character at the moment, save for him being a vampire named Alistair who will interact with Klaus. (For Alistair’s sake, let’s hope that interaction doesn’t involve a beheading — not that Jackson hasn’t had practice in that role.) Jackson’s additional TV credits include roles on Blindspot, Person of Interest and Make It or Break It. What we do know about Season 4 is that it picks up five years after the events of May’s season finale, as Hayley and a grown-up Hope fight to save and reunite their family. tvline.com/2016/07/25/the-originals-season-4-spoilers-neil-jackson-cast-alistair/#more-735642

The Originals Video: Cast Teases New Romance in Season 4, Honoring Cami and Davina's Memories, More Scoop
We hope you like ghost stories, because The Originals is cooking up a doozy for you in Season 4. The CW drama’s cast, along with executive producer Julie Plec, stopped by TVLine’s San Diego Comic-Con suite (presented by ZTE) to preview what’s to come after the impending five-year time jump. Among the topics discussed: * How will Hayley explain the whole ‘Elijah is your uncle, but also my boyfriend’ thing to a grown-up Hope? (And does anyone in the cast miss working with the Hope babies?) * What can we expect from Containment refugee Christina Moses’ new character? * Does Marcel have any friends left in New Orleans? * Which soon-to-be-available characters from The Vampire Diaries would the cast like to bring onto The Originals? tvline.com/2016/07/25/the-originals-interview-season-4-spoilers-comic-con-video/#more-735495

The Originals Season 4: Meet the Actress Playing Grown-Up Hope Don’t blame Klaus if he doesn’t recognize his daughter when The Originals returns in 2017. As revealed as San Diego Comic-Con, there will be a five-year time jump between the CW drama’s third and fourth seasons — and now, TVLine can exclusively introduce you to the actress playing grown-up Hope: Summer Fontana. Fontana, whose credits include a role in the movie Basic Witches (how appropriate!), began filming for Season 4 earlier this week. And, seriously, is she not the spitting image of her parents? (Or at least her father?) “I’m excited to see what kind of personality this little girl has,” Phoebe Tonkin said of Hope during the cast’s interview with TVLine at Comic-Con. “Even though she hasn’t been around her dad for the last five years, I think there’s a lot of Klaus in her — good or bad — and I’m excited to see that in this little powerful witch.” tvline.com/2016/07/28/the-originals-spoilers-new-hope-cast-season-4/

The Originals Adds Teen Wolf Alum as Josh's Season 4 Love Interest
Keahu Kahuanui is once again finding himself in the company of werewolves — with a few vampires and hybrids added in for good measure. The Teen Wolf alum will recur in the upcoming fourth season of The Originals as Josh’s new boyfriend Eddie, TVLine has learned exclusively. Despite being very much aware of the supernatural world around him, Eddie — described as “sweet, funny, sexy and charming, with an encyclopedic knowledge of random facts” — has no desire to be anything other than human. We’ll meet him in the second episode of the season. Kahuanui joins a growing list of intriguing Season 4 additions, one which includes Christina Moses (Containment) as a fierce werewolf named Keelin and Neil Jackson (Sleepy Hollow) as a mysterious vampire named Alistair. The Originals‘ fourth season kicks off midseason on The CW. tvline.com/2016/08/10/the-originals-spoilers-season-4-cast-keahu-kahuanui-josh-boyfriend/#more-739790
