Is Vampire Diaries star Ian Somerhalder sucking donors dry? According to tax documents uncovered by RadarOnline.com, the actor’s conservation charity made just one $550 grant while taking in more than $300,000 in donations in a recent year. Tax documents filed by the Ian Somerhalder Foundation, created to “advance science,” “promote the conservation of natural resources,” and “provide relief to the poor, distressed or underprivileged” show that the charity took in $365,440 in contributions and grants from donors in 2012, plus $34,457, for a total income of $400,072. That same year, they paid out just one grant, to the Best Friends Animal Society and Wildlife Rehab, totaling $550. So where did the money go? The documents show the charity paid out $26,000 in salary to employees, and $579 in employee benefits. A total of $16,692 went to lawyers, and $29,680 was spent on accounting. Office expenses and rent totaled nearly $21,000, and travel expenses totaled a whopping $20,122 for just one year. Insurance totaled $10,079, paypal fees were $7,077, and other expenses added up to just $152,917 in expenses, more than 278 times the amount of grants paid out. For the whole story .... radaronline.com/exclusives/2014/08/ian-somerhalder-charity-expenses-grant-disparity/Yes there are copies of the returns.
All I can say is half a mil will feed a bunch of cats. lol This is my only source and I don't care enough to find another, but if it isn't based on facts .... Ian's lawyers would be all over it. I'm not saying ISF is a scam but.............. WTF Might explain why Paul Wesley just got the "Humane Society" award.

Interesting is " travel expenses totaled a whopping $20,122 for just one year" did ISF pay for his traveling?

Paul Wesley did not win any Humane Society award. He simply attended the Humane Society’s 60th Anniversary Gala with his girlfriend Tolkin. As far as the ISF, it is a well known fact that they have been frugal on giving out funds due to the fact they are accumulating monies to start an animal sanctuary a long coming aspiration of Ian and the ISF family. Any accusations on the veracity and integrity of the ISF and its founder Ian Somerhalder are unfounded and malicious. www.wetpaint.com/paul-wesley/gallery/2014-03-31-phoebe-tonkin-torrey-devitto-gala

What bowled me over was taking in $400,000 and giving back $550 ... that's ridiculous on any level. It should be ISSF rather than ISF...(Ian Somerhalder Sulsh Fund) Yea, I followed the "Eagle"" horse story .... sorry I was under the impression Ian actually did something.... silly me.

I'll follow it. As far as it being malicious to talk about the facts, I've never felt that way. I believe in what people do not what they say..... Is the rest of the $300K in a trust to build the sanctuary? And why does it cost $153,000 to fly around and talk to people? As far as Paul goes, this is a quote form your link: Inside the event, Paul took the stage to accept the Humane Generation Award for using his “massive star platform to advocate for farm animals and alert youth to the inherent cruelty of confinement on factory farms.”
Welcome to the page pepitagonzalez, sorry I missed your arrival with a greeting ..hope you continue to post... facts are preferred. lol Sence this is an actor thread, we should probably take this to a debate thread if you want to go on with it. Here's the general debate thread link..... tvdshow.proboards.com/thread/154/official-debating-thread?page=4 Just post I'll find ya..... again welcome to the page all opinions are respected... more if their based on facts.

Thank you for the warm welcome shoe20. Paul Wesley did receive an award for using twitter to advocate for animals. That was my mistake. It's because I'm not used to Paul winning many awards so I was skeptical. Lets talk facts now. Fact 1 : You are confusing Damon, a fictional character on a TV show with Ian Somerhalder; an actor, humanitarian, philanthropist and United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) Goodwill Ambassador. Fact 2: If Mr.Somehalder had anything other than a sterling and unblemished record on his advocacy and admirable work for animals and the environment at large, he would not have been appointed to such a prestigious organization. www.unep.org/newscentre/default.aspx?DocumentID=2791&ArticleID=10880&l=en

Guys, one of the most important rules of our board is: Respect the actors of any shows being discussed here. No bashing allowed towards them.
I know you're discussing some news about Ian that were posted somewhere else but we don't know if it's true... Also, the Ian Somerhalder thread is the place to appreciate Ian so, we're not going to discuss this here. Thank you for your collaboration. Have fun.

deb nothing I said disrepected to Ian.... I wouldn't do that on this thread..... It was all facts (possible incomplete because of future plans), but facts just the same...... hey, I can't read minds. deb if you follow the links you''ll know I was very careful to put facts on an actor's page... it's not where I go looking for a disagreement. That said I don't see the harm in posting facts on an actor's page....help me I tried to move it deb, spank me. First post from someone I sparked, and hope to converse with. Nothing I posted was disrespectful only factual, and I will continue to follow the page rules. There was no supposition or innuendo. I'm not looking to this thread for desention, although I realize facts may get in the way. =) Just trying to post what I see on reputable sites. pepitagonzalez, seriously not trying to rain on your parade... just reporting what I found. Thanks for considering the Paul thing, yes small, but I was factual. Look forward to our future interaction. Sure, I'm tiptoeing down a slippery slope but I have proof of what I'm posting, besides I have a new friend in pepitagonzalez who's man enough to admit his enough to admit his mistake about Paul and the "Humane Society" award. Am I stirring the pot (hell ya it's what I do) , but I do it within the parameters of the page, and no animosity to the actor.....just facts.... If anything POST IS UNFACTUAL PLEASE TAKE IT DOWN OR LET ME PROVIDE SOURCES. Honestly didn't mean for that last sentance to be in Caps..... Too lazy to change it. =) If the pages position is only positive stuff on an actors page,,,why not call it a "pro page" and only have positive comments.....Negetative comments made with references should be allowed with no comments...... Just me...no interpretation only facts. Hot seat girl.... that's what you get, and I'll be back for justice.....not trying to say Ian is doing anything wrong (Justice Dept) will determine that, but the returns were very unusual if you're trying to give back.

shoe20, I know your intention was to share the facts you found, and not to bash Ian, but some people may find it offensive or may feel like you're bashing Ian in his own thread by sharing this facts so I have to ask you to close this topic here... If you want to, you can discuss it with @ pepitagonzalez by private message

The Radar article was needlessly negative toward Ian's organisation. When you read the actual mission statement from the foundation it reads: OUR MISSION The IS FOUNDATION aims to empower, educate and collaborate with people and projects to positively impact the planet and its creatures. - See more at: www.isfoundation.com/about-foundation#sthash.XFRqog6o.dpufThe primary goal ISF is not to give out grants. It's only one part of many activities listed on the website. When you look at the actual financial statements the cash account has increased substantially which makes sense if the main goal is to build a sanctuary. Building a sanctuary will cost a lot of money so they should be saving $ instead of giving it all out in grants. There is also listed in the 2011 tax return a cost of $11,298 travel costs for someone other than Ian toward a documentary about global warming yet the Radar article left that part out. amradaronline.files.wordpress.com/2014/08/ian-somerhalder-foundation-tax-docs.pdfGiven how young the organisation is, it's not unusual that the actual goals/results haven't been fully realised. As far as Ian's traveling, if it's even for Ian, it could be other members, why shouldn't he be compensated. He is likely giving up paid engagements to promote ISF. If the ISF was 10+ years and still had little accomplishment including minimal grant payout then critique away but at this point I think it's way too early and overly critical to do so. I'm not sure deb if it's okay that I posted here but I wanted to give a an alternate view of Radar's article and shoe20's post.
