Elena. Every life she has touched has gone to hell. Sure a few of them had a good childhood with her but once Stefan and Damon entered the picture with her (minus those first meetings), the loss factor for everyone has gone through the roof due to Elena's relationship with the brothers and her decision making. Elena, being an enabler and acting as an emitter for stupid decisions for all those in proximity to her just makes people throw caution to the wind or play with those outside their weight class in some weird fetish to impress/protect her (the Original prodding that went on for like 2 seasons). Seriously, the show has no greater villain. Katherine is a goddang school girl compared to the career criminal Elena. Elena should be boxed and stored in the warehouse at the end of Raiders. A villain is someone who purposely does evil. And I don't see how Elena fits into that category. Obviously you don't like her, which is why you didn't hesitate to cram her in with the rest of the 'real' villains, but you're dead wrong, cause she's nothing like that! Everything she's done was in the name of protecting herself and the people she cared about. (Katherine and Klaus only cared about themselves; taking a chapter right out of the villain handbook.) And sometimes that meant taking certain measures that were questionable, but at the end of the day it was for a good reason. It's not her fault if Damon or Stefan - or any other character for that matter -- decides to do something stupid to protect/help her. She's not responsible for their actions. Assigning blame to her for them is just piling it on. She can't help it if she's loved by the people in her life-- people who are willing to do whatever it takes to keep her safe. That's just the situation she's in and there's little she could do about it.... unless..... maybe..... I don't know: kill herself! Wait.... tried that, but everyone just had to save her, or talk her out of that decision. Elena may not be perfect, and you might hate her character, but she shouldn't be called a villain because of it. She doesn't deserve that! BTW, if you're going to call Elena a villain, then what do you call Damon, or Stefan or Katherine?

I have to side with @dman24 on this one Slash....even though things typically get screwed up when Elena's involved...she is no villain by definition. moshe12, Damon at the beginning of the series could have made the list, but I don't think Elena ever could. I think you made a good choice for voting possibilities...I voted Kat because of you wording "impressive" not that she's the baddest of the bad. If your intent was to poll the baddest of the bad, I change my vote to Esther.

BTW, if you're going to call Elena a villain, then what do you call Damon, or Stefan or Katherine? Take my disposition on Elena in stride like everyone else. Yeah, not a fan of her at all but posts like the above are a running/obligatory joke. Don't take them entirely at face value, such as me considering her a 'villain'. She does need to put a bit more stock in her decisions. She may not have direct control over those around her but she influences their courses of action with her own. It's a given they're going to step between her and danger or jump head first into her plans so at the very least, she should take 5 minutes to think of the damage that could potentially come about to others who are siding with her. She knows they're going to have her back and she kind of just takes it for granted at this point as it's just a given. "If I'm going to kill myself, so and so are going to try and stop that, making them but heads with whatshisname who already killed 6 people. I might want to think about this about more...". That's all I'm saying. And it's not exclusive to her honestly. If the gang actually planned together instead of having 2-3 separate plans/agendas going at the same time, there would be a lot less collateral and people being put on the spot to react when they find out last minute/in the heat of the moment. They're all out to protect each other and in the process, they're doing a good bit of harm by not being on the same page. But that's another topic entirely. And believe me, I have a low opinion of/could rail pretty much all the characters and their choices up to where I watched. Damon, Stefan and Katherine included.

On a serious note, finding it hard to pin down the 'biggest'. The show always gives you a somewhat decent background for why each is doing what they're doing (don't know who Markos is) and with that said, I do think Esther may win out. She comes back to life and gets a plan going to kill her children. What? The family is back together, sans Mikael who was obviously a problem (always at it with Klaus), and she tries to kill them all off to correct the whole Vampire thing and appease the Spirits if I recall. Your flesh and blood for those judgmental clowns? Pfft. Others have a love story driving them, being wronged, are products of their environment or being conditioned into certain habits but Esther just strikes me as the odd one out with her circumstances/reasoning.

Yeah...about that I may have chosen the words better, my intention when asking and creating the poll was to find out what we all think of as the meanest, most villainous, the most baddest villain. It is interesting because everybody would of course define it differently. I wanted to first ask who is your favourite villain, but that can be dealt with in another poll. My favourite villains are Klaus, Mikael and Silas. Klaus cannot be described in words Mikael is so badass, vindictive and passionate and might I add imho very sexy. Silas was portrayed by Paul Wesley...and in doing so he created an ironic, vain and very funny character, sometimes unintentionally. I think Silas was the most funny villain and therefor one of my favourites. I remember well, the knock knock mayor joke, what an a**

Mikael is in close running with Esther as the baddest...He's really no better than her. Funniest is definitely Silas (Paul really shined in that part)....just don't mention the Knock-Knock jokes because @dman24 will go off the rails. lololol

She's cold as the water was when the Titanic sunk (-2 ° Celsius). Silas had more jokes than the knock knock ones ... but I don't rtemember everything funny he said...oh there was the scene at the bus-stop, that was hilarious LMAO... Gotta go and meet my mom for lunch. Talk later.

Here's a guy pining over since Long lost love for 2000 years only to be dumped the minute she had a chance, and he was won over twice by some crazy witch? Esther cannot be controlled by love, not even the love of her children, that's why she's far more dangerous. And yes, he has crazy mind control-which can only take you so far once you know what he's up to- unlike the the crazy MICHAELSON superpower. Silas and his knock knock jokes are all one big joke- and a little annoying.

You know what I mean?

I hate Silas though because he killed my beloved Jer. Still he is one of my fav villains. BTW I voted for Esther as the baddest badass villain Mikael has alot of sex appeal imho... and he is charming, Esther is one badass Momma and person.

Yikes!!! He started out okay, then he just devolved into this annoying character that I couldn't stand. I'm glad he's not on the show anymore cause he was just not cutting it for me as a villain. But thank God they corrected their mistake and finally gave us a proper villain in Markos. That dude was the real deal. lol

Same with Enzo actor Michael Malarkey.
