I created this thread in the part of the website devoted to The Vampire Diaries because that's where scenes between Elijah and Elena took place. As some people know, Daniel Gillies may very likely have started this ship when he speculated during either Season 2 or 3 of The Vampire Diaries that Elijah was in love with Elena. Then the actor got a role on a TV show called Saving Hope and there was no time for a relationship to bud between the two characters even if the writers wanted it to. When Daniel Gillies was finally able to reprise his role as Elijah on a regular basis while still working on Saving Hope, he was given a very disappointing kissing scene with Nina Dobrev in which Elena had no humanity and impersonated Katherine, and then Elijah was moved onto the spinoff where he would have no contact with Elena at all. I know I am not the only person who feels that if circumstances were different, the writers might have given Elena more time with Elijah. They are almost the same person. Both want to save someone from himself, even if the task is impossible because of who they are each trying to save. Both also put others before themselves enough that either one would give up their life to save a loved one if it became necessary. The two understood each other very well on the subject of Elijah saving his family. (I'm referring to a conversation on The Vampire Diaries. I don't think anything on the spinoff should be brought into this because TVD characters behave differently on that show, and I believe that crossovers will start to be fewer and far between because of that.) Elijah and Elena could very well have been soulmates or an endgame relationship for the TVD series. So, I created a place for people to talk about things that Elijah and Elena have in common and speculate, if you want, about what the relationship would be like if the characters could be in the same scenes together. This would also be a good place to reminisce.
I could start by saying that while Elena has a lot of growing up to do, the selfless part of her still makes her more mature than some of the people around her. I don't think that Elena should be brought onto the spinoff to reunite her with Elijah, not because I believe it would ruin the spinoff, but because I'm pretty sure the spinoff would ruin Elena's character the way it did Tyler's. I can't watch the spinoff because that specific form of drama and violence triggers my PTSD, but I hope that someday there will be a reason for Elijah to leave New Orleans and he will cross paths again with Elena.
