Once Upon a Time bosses tease new format for season 6
The upcoming sixth season of Once Upon a Time is set to look very different from what fans have become accustomed to over the last few years. During a panel for their upcoming Freeform show Dead of Summer, moderated by this reporter, executive producers Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis revealed that the storyline for season 6 won’t be split into two halves, with the story of villain Hyde (Sam Witwer) not necessarily set to be wrapped up in the first 11 episodes. “This season is going to be different from past because it’s not going to be Hyde comes to town, we fight with him for 10 episodes, and then in the winter finale, he dies and we move on,” Kitsis said. “We are changing around what we’re doing this year and going back to that season 1 mentality of small town stories and smaller arcs.” Added Horowitz: “We’re also planning a 22-episode story as opposed to breaking it up into two halves this year. It’s been really exciting and fun.” In season 6, the show will be exploring more tales from the Land of Untold Stories, which opens up new and endless possibilities for storytelling. (Check out some of those possibilities here.) But that doesn’t mean the heroes and villains we’ve come to know and love are taking a backseat — in fact, it’s the opposite. “That’s actually providing the opportunity to look at our characters in a different way,” Horowitz said. “What’s really exciting about it is, for season 6, really being in Storybrooke again. As we hinted in the finale last year, in seeing the Evil Queen [Lana Parrilla] split, it’s allowing us to do that for a lot of our characters — not as literally — but it’s turning inward on a lot of these characters that we’ve been with for five seasons so far.” Once Upon a Time will return this fall on ABC. www.ew.com/article/2016/06/11/once-upon-time-new-format-season-6

Once Upon a Time Casting Sinbad, Scheherezade for Season 6
TVLine has sneaked a peek inside Once Upon a Time‘s book of Untold Stories and recognizes at least two familiar names due to make their debut during Season 6. As revealed in last month’s finale, Mr. Hyde (played by Sam Witwer) — as part of his backroom deal with Rumplestiltskin — has transported to Storybrooke a throng of denizens from the Land of Untold Stories. Among the new arrivals will be Sinbad, and to that end the ABC drama is seeking a 30something Middle Eastern/Arabic or Northern African male to play a roguishly charming and quick-witted hero who knows the power of kindness but as of late has lost faith in his ability to lead his people. Paging Covert Affairs/Nurse Jackie alum Haaz Sleiman…? Also being cast to debut in early Season 6 is Scheherazade, the famous spinner of the tale of One Thousand and One Nights. Here, the character is envisioned as a regal Middle Eastern/Arabic beauty who never backs down from a good fight and can go toe-to-toe with even the toughest adversaries. This is Alphas spitfire Azita Ghanizada’s role to lose, amiright? tvline.com/2016/06/24/once-upon-a-time-sinbad-scheherezade-casting-season-6/

SPOILER:
Will any of the untold stories on Once Upon a Time hold a connection to any of the characters? — lennyukpirate1That’s TBD, but the arrival of characters from the Land of Untold stories will certainly affect those in Storybrooke. “The condition of life in Storybrooke is very important,” EP Adam Horowitz says. “Hyde’s arrival impacts that. We’re planning to explore a lot of what that’s going to mean for the day-to-day life in Storybrooke.” Adds EP Edward Kitsis: “One of the things that we really want to get back to this year is that season 1 and 2 vibe of small town stories, being in Storybrooke and getting back to Mary Margaret as the teacher, Emma as the sheriff, Grumpy as the janitor.” www.ew.com/article/2016/06/24/spoiler-room-quantico-game-thrones-outlander-spoilers

SPOILERS:
Question: Will Once Upon a Time pick up right where they left off in the finale (like, is it the next day after Jekyll and Hyde come to town)? Or will there be a few weeks where the town is normal — the “calm before the storm,” so to speak? — ShannonAusiello: The answer is A) not the next day nor B) weeks later but C), Season 6 will open just moments after Hyde arrived in Storybrooke and ominously greeted Regina. From there, says co-creator Adam Horowitz, “What the Untold Stories characters are, what their whole deal is, is something we’ll explore.” Question: I am really excited for the next season of Once Upon a Time, and my question is: What new characters will we meet besides Hyde? — IrisAusiello: In addition to the previously scooped Sinbad and Scheherazade, the ABC series is casting for the premiere the role of Morpheus, as in the Greek god of dreams (versus, you know, Laurence Fishburne in The Matrix). He is described as “an old soul in a young body,” someone who is equally good at reading people as he is at hiding his own agenda. tvline.com/2016/06/27/once-upon-a-time-season-6-spoilers-hyde-regina-ask-ausiello/Do you have any scoop on what’s going to happen to Once Upon a Time‘s Belle and Rumple? Will they be going on an adventure for the first time together? —RebeccaThey will be going on an adventure together… or as “together” as they can be with Belle still stashed inside a decorative container. “Belle is with Rumple — she’s in Pandora’s Box, in the sleeping curse,” says Once co-creator Eddy Kitsis. And as the Season 6 premiere will make clear, Rumple did get said box back, as part of his deal with Mr. Hyde. As for where the “information” Hyde delivered in return, to rouse Belle from her slumber, will lead the couple, “That will be the mystery that we show you,” Kitsis says. Adds co-creator Adam Horowitz: “What we really focus on at the start is: ‘How the heck does he get her out of the box and wake her?'” tvline.com/2016/06/30/agents-of-shield-season-4-spoilers-lmd-life-model-decoys/#more-728579

Once Upon a Time casts 24 star as Morpheus
Once Upon a Time has tapped 24 alum Giles Matthey to play Morpheus in season 6, EW has learned exclusively. Despite the introduction of the Land of Untold Stories opening up the storytelling possibilities to just about everyone, we’re not talking about Lawrence Fishburne’s character in The Matrix. Matthey’s character is the quick-witted and insightful god of dreams from Greek mythology. He’s equally good at reading people as he is at hiding his own agenda. He will be doing what Morpheus does best — guiding people through the world of dreams. Lest we forget, Belle (Emilie de Ravin) is currently under a sleeping curse, and we hear Morpheus will, in fact, be interacting with her, as well as Rumple (Robert Carlyle). Matthey, whose credits also include True Blood, The Good Wife, and NCIS, will appear in at least the season 6 premiere. Once Upon a Time returns Sunday, Sept. 25 at 8 p.m. ET on ABC. www.ew.com/article/2016/07/15/once-upon-time-giles-matthey-morpheus

Once Upon a Time books Legend of the Seeker star — exclusiveLegend of the Seeker star Craig Horner has landed a guest-starring role on Once Upon a Time — and EW can exclusively reveal that he will be playing the Count of Monte Cristo. Horner will appear in at least one episode in season 6, though details on what he’ll be doing are being kept under wraps. The Count’s introduction comes in the wake of the show introducing the Land of Untold Stories, which opens up the storytelling possibilities to pretty much everyone. The Count of Monte Cristo is an Alexandre Dumas novel that tells the story of an innocent man wrongly imprisoned, who returns years later to take his revenge on those who betrayed him. (ABC’s Revenge was inspired by the book.) Stay tuned for more Once Upon a Time news on Saturday, when the cast and executive producers will appear at Comic-Con. Once Upon a Time: Cinderella Returns — To Explore Two Past Connections
Jessy Schram is set for a Once Upon a Time encore, to reveal one Cinderella connection and shed some light on another. TVLine has learned exclusively that Schram will return in the upcoming Season 6’s third episode, in which it is revealed that the maid-turned-princess has a connection to the Land of Untold Stories, which in the Season 5 finale relocated its many denizens to Storybrooke. The same episode will also explore the origin of the friendship between Cinderella and Snow White (played by Ginnifer Goodwin), which was first established in Season 1, Episode 4 flashbacks. Schram last appeared on Once Upon a Time (as Cinderella’s Storybrooke alter ego, Ashley) in the seventh episode of Season 4. The ubiquitous actress’ other TV credits include Nashville, The Lizzie Borden Chronicles, Mad Men, Falling Skies and Last Resort. Cinderella/Ashley isn’t the only early-seasons callback on tap for Season 6; as previously reported, Raphael Sbarge is due to appear in the Sunday, Sept. 25 opener as Archie Hopper tvline.com/2016/07/20/once-upon-a-time-season-6-cinderella-returns-jessy-schram/

Once Upon a Time Cast on Season 6's 'Pure Evil' Queen, Charming's Big Surprise and Belle's 'New Perspective'All told, Season 6 of ABC’s Once Upon a Time is shaping up to be an “introspective” one for the Storybrooke heroes, Jennifer Morrison told Michael Ausiello at TVLine’s Comic-Con studio presented by ZTE. When last we tuned in, Dr. Jekyll’s sinister half, Mr. Hyde, had put down roots in Storybrooke, along with other denizens of the Land of Untold Stories. Regina meanwhile split apart from and seemingly dispatched with her dark side, wholly unaware that the Evil Queen is in fact alive and well and looking to make mayhem. Weighing in on that “awesome” twist, Lana Parrilla says it has been “different but a lot of fun” to tackle dual roles. But it’s the return of the Evil Queen that will prompt, for example, Prince Charming to look inward and discover that some long-held truths perhaps are not so true. Also in the video Q&A, Emilie de Ravin weighs in on Belle’s new attitude (as well as the fact that one half of Rumbelle always seems to be KO’d!); Morrison ponders the course of “true love” for Emma and Hook; Rebecca Mader teases a sisterly twist; and Jared Gilmore sees many Pokemon GO dates in Henry and Violet’s future. Once Upon a Time Season 6 premieres Sunday, Sept. 25 at 8/7c. tvline.com/2016/07/23/once-upon-a-time-cast-interview-season-6-video/#more-735002

Once Upon a Time casts Aladdin and JafarMore additions from the Land of Untold Stories were announced during Once Upon a Time’s Comic-Con panel on Saturday. Deniz Akdeniz (Graceland) has been tapped to play Aladdin — who was described as “the savior” — while Oded Fehr (Covert Affairs) will play Jafar. (Lost’s Naveen Andrews previously portrayed Jafar on Once Upon a Time in Wonderland.) The duo joins the previously cast Giles Matthey as Morpheus and Craig Horner as the Count of Monte Cristo. From the preview clip shown below, things aren’t looking so good for Aladdin. As Jafar says, “That’s why you never, ever hear these words about a savior: ‘They live happily ever after.’” During the panel, the cast and executive producers Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz also shared some scoop on season 6. Here are the highlights: Double Trouble: Just because Regina has separated herself from the Evil Queen doesn’t mean she’s lost her spark. “Regina is still sassy,” Lana Parrilla said. “She’s not going to lose her sass. I thought, ‘Is she just now this pure, light being?’ They said, ‘Well no, not really, because she’s still sassy.’ That’s Regina. She’s sarcastic. She’s not going to lose that. But the Evil Queen is slightly different than she used to be. She is now without a conscience, so she’s pure evil and a lot of fun. Regina is desperate to really be this hero and be happy internally. That’s really what she wants for herself. She has this beautiful family now. It’s going to be an interesting journey to see how the Evil Queen and Regina coexist.” Bromance Ahead: We’re going to see much more of Charming (Josh Dallas) and Hook (Colin O’Donoghue) this season. “There’s going to be some fun times to be had, it just depends on what your interpretation of fun is,” Kitsis said. RumBelle: Even though Rumple (Robert Carlyle) isn’t the man he used to be in Belle’s (Emilie de Ravin) eyes, she’s still drawn to him for a very particular reason. “She’s acknowledging and realizing that part of that pull is him being a bad guy,” de Ravin said. “She likes that. Even though deep down she sees the good in him… but that darkness, she likes that. She’s struggling with that quite a bit.” Wedding Bells: When Hook returned in the finale, he appeared framed with Emma and a wedding dress. But that doesn’t mean fans should expect wedding bells to be ringing this season. “It’s on the set, it’s always been there,” O’Donoghue said. The Author’s New Role: With the Land of Untold Stories now in Storybrooke, Henry (Jared Gilmore) will be very busy this season. “I am a hero now,” Gilmore said. “My way of helping people is being able to give them their stories and help them figure things out. Henry has found his place. He believes that now he is a part of the heroes. He loves it.” Robin’s Return: Even though Zeus was able to bring Hook back to life, it likely won’t happen again. “That was a one-time only Zeus interference,” Kitsis said, insinuating that the same won’t happen for Robin Hood (Sean Maguire). But, “Everything that was said about the Olympian Crystal was said by Hades, can we trust him?” Horowitz said. “That’s a question some of our characters should and will ask.” Maybe there’s hope yet! The Evil Queen’s Wrath: Though Regina and Emma’s friendship is strong, the Evil Queen does not currently feel the same way. “These women have grown so much over the years and they’ve become best friends,” Parrilla said. “They’re working together and I think Emma has really helped Regina get to this new place in her life. Emma has saved her many times and vice versa. I see them continuing down that path. The Evil Queen is another entity in itself.” Added Morrison: “It’s going to be complicated for Emma to navigate because she wants to believe in Regina and knows that good can win, but she also knows she needs to protect everyone she loves. It’s going to be complicated like it always is.” Hook and Emma’s Love: Returning from the Underworld, “He’s pretty much the same Hook,” O’Donoghue said. “Now that they know it’s true love with Emma, they’re trying to figure out how to navigate being together. We might find out a few things about his past.” Added Horowitz: “There is more of Hook’s past that we delve into and some surprising secrets that have been harbored.” Snow White’s Heart: It’s in danger again. “The Evil Queen, if we remember, the one thing she wanted most in the world is Snow White’s heart and that will not stop,” Kitsis said, noting that Regina and Snow have really become like family now. “We’re going to see very early on that relationship further,” he continued. “Regina is going to have a group of people to support her while her other half is going to be trying to kill everyone and cause a lot of mischief.” Also screened during the panel was a special feature from the upcoming Blu-ray and DVD release, Tales from the Underworld: A Knight with Cruella, which tells the story of what happened to Cruella (Victoria Smurfit) after everyone left her behind in the Underworld. Tales even introduces a new Once Upon a Time character, portrayed by Buffy the Vampire Slayer’s James Marsters. Once Upon a Time: The Complete Fifth Season will be available on Blu-ray and DVD on August 16. www.ew.com/article/2016/07/23/comic-con-once-upon-time-panel#.V5OtnYfjFRI.facebook

Once Upon a Time @ Comic-Con: Cast Talks Regina vs. Evil Queen, Emma's Potential Wedding Dress and More
Once Upon a Time‘s upcoming sixth season may be full of “untold stories,” but the cast and creators had plenty to tell during the ABC drama’s San Diego Comic-Con panel on Saturday. Stars Lana Parrilla, Jennifer Morrison, Josh Dallas, Colin O’Donoghue, Emilie de Ravin, Rebecca Mader and Jared Gilmore, along with executive producers Adam Horowitz and Eddy Kitsis, were on hand to spill secrets from Season 6, premiering Sunday, Sept. 25 at 8/7c. Here’s what went down: * Why exactly does Belle continue to stick by Rumple’s side after everything he’s put her through? According to de Ravin, Belle is “acknowledging and realizing that part of that pull is him being kind of a bad guy. She likes that. Deep down, she sees the good in him … but that darkness, she likes that. She’s struggling with that quite a bit.” * Despite losing her inner Evil Queen, Parrilla wants fans to know that “Regina’s still sassy. She’s not going to lose her sass. The question I asked the guys is, ‘Is she just this pure, light being?’ And they said, ‘No, not really. She’s still sassy. That’s Regina.’ But the Evil Queen is slightly different than she used to be, I think. She’s now without a conscience, so she’s pure evil — and a lot of fun. Regina is desperate to really be this hero and be happy internally … and that’s really what she wants for herself. It’s going to be an interesting journey this year to see how the Evil Queen and Regina co-exist.” * In response to fans freaking out over the apparent wedding dress in the background of Hook and Emma’s final Season 5 scene together, O’ Donoghue clarified, “It’s always been [on the set]. It wasn’t specifically put there. I don’t think it’s a wedding dress.” Adds Kitsis, “If it was Emma’s wedding dress, it would be red and leather.” * Hook’s revival was a “one-time-only Zeus interference,” Kitsis confirmed, at which point O’Donoghue interjected, “He could have given me back my hand!” * On Emma and Regina’s ever-evolving friendship: “These women have grown so much over the years,” Parrilla said. “They’ve become best friends. It’s such an admirable relationship. … They’re working together, and I think Emma has really helped Regina get to this new place in her life. I can see them continuing down that path.” * Emma and Hook are “trying to figure out how to navigate being together in the world now,” O’Donoghue said. “At the minute, he’s the same Hook, but I think we might find out a few things about his past.” Horowitz then confirmed, “There’s more of Hook’s past that we delve into, and some surprising secrets that have been harbored.” * “The one thing she wanted most was Snow White’s heart, and that will not stop,” Kitsis teased. Added Horowitz, we’re going to be exploring Snow and Regina’s past, present and future together in Season 6. tvline.com/2016/07/23/once-upon-a-time-spoilers-season-6-comic-con-panel-recap-2016/#more-733244
