Once Upon a Time' Casts Another Treasure-Loving Pirate From Hook's Past: Captain Silver!
There's a new captain coming to Once Upon a Time! When season five of the spellbinding drama returns, Storybrooke fans will be introduced to a new ship-loving pirate with a stormy past. Actor Costas Mandylor has been cast to play Captain Silver, ETonline can exclusively reveal. As of now, details surrounding this mysterious newcomer are being kept locked away in the depths of the sea, but we can share that Captain Silver definitely has some rough-watered history with Killian Jones, aka Captain Hook. Mandylor will make his swashbuckling debut in an upcoming episode this spring in Once Upon a Time's fifth season. Although this speculation has yet to be confirmed, we have a magical hunch that Mandylor's Captain Silver could be Captain Long John Silver -- the cunning and villainous pirate from the 1883 novel, Treasure Island. It would definitely make sense if ABC's fairy tale-focused drama were to incorporate Treasure Island into its fantasy repertoire. Disney already adapted the beloved Robert Louis Stevenson novel into an live-action movie in 1950, and subsequently released the 2002 animated feature, Treasure Planet, a science fiction adaptation of Treasure Island. Additionally, the Once Upon a Time creators have deviated from the Disney path many times in the past with their signature twists on other classics from the Victorian Era like Alice in Wonderland and Frankenstein, so perhaps this Captain Silver will fit in nicely with a certain pirate family. (You know which one we're talking about!) Once Upon a Time returns with its 100th episode on Sunday, March 6 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC. www.etonline.com/tv/182609_exclusive_once_upon_a_time_casts_costas_mandylor_captain_silver/

Once Upon a Time's Midseason Premiere: An Evil Birthday, a Blushing Hero and 10 More Teases
ABC’s Once Upon a Time celebrated 100 episodes on Saturday night with, among other things, a screening of the milestone hour aka Season 5’s winter premiere (airing Sunday, March 6). TVLine was among those on hand for the VIP presentation. Knowing that spilling full-on spoilers “comes with a price,” here are some teases involving Emma, Regina, the Charmings and the other major characters arriving (or already residing) in the Underworld. ♦ The premiere kicks off with one of the series’ most powerful and emotional cold opens ever, doing justice to storylines past and present. ♦ The episode is quite Regina-centric, from both her current-day conundrum in the Underworld (Mayor Cora lays out a rather grim ground rule) to flashbacks of one of her birthdays, where a surprising someone sets out to gift-wrap for the Evil Queen the only thing she desires. ♦ A case of mistaken identity leaves one of the heroes a bit flustered. ♦ Fitting for the milestone episode, a character whom we first met in the series pilot and who has not been seen in a while resurfaces when you last expect — to great comedic effect. ♦ Under the oversight of the Blind Witch, the menu at Underworld Granny’s now offers gingerbread… and children. ♦ A first meeting between two characters just may leave you a bit misty. ♦ Seeing the key to Room 8 tees up a sweet moment between Henry and Emma. ♦ Freshly deceased Hook has seen better days. ♦ “Chip” puts in an appearance, sparking a flashback to a “lost” scene between Rumple and Belle. ♦ By the end of the hour, one character will experience an extreme reversal of fortune. ♦ From the first moment Underworld’s pampered overlord is revealed, it’s clear that Ally McBeal alum Greg Germann is having a helluva good time playing Hades. tvline.com/2016/02/21/once-upon-a-time-season-5b-premiere-preview/

Once Upon a Time Season 5B Brings Back Michael Raymond-James as NealThe covert op is up. TVLine can now confirm that Michael Raymond-James — who stars on NBC’s midseason drama Game of Silence — recently found time to reprise his role as Once Upon a Time fan fave Neal Cassidy. As teased by this TVLine Blind Item, Raymond-James last month sneaked back to Vancouver to shoot a scene for the Season 5B premiere (airing Sunday, March 6 on ABC), in which Neal’s one true love Emma braves the Underworld… to save freshly deceased Hook’s life. And when we say he “sneaked,” we mean it. I hear that because of the mutual admiration he shares with Once creators Adam Horowitz and Eddy Kitsis, MRJ gamely traveled with a group and incognito, especially as he deplaned in Vancouver. And rather than hole up at one of the usual hotels where guest actors passing through town are spied on the regular, he bunked with friends outside of the city. As a final safeguard, Raymond-James’ scenes were filmed indoors on a soundstage — away from the ever-looming paparazzi known to spoil many an outdoor shoot. (Alas, despite all the secrecy, two tiny hiccups threatened to expose his return, including a castmate’s quickly deleted Instagram. Oops.) Now, with hundreds attending this weekend’s 100th-episode screening, the cat was poised to spring out of the bag. The nature of Neal’s reappearance is under wraps but the possibilities are many, seeing as in Once Upon a Time‘s Underworld, the dead only loiter if “you haven’t found closure yet," co-creator Eddy Kitsis recently told TVLine. Or, Raymond-James could again appear via a (new) flashback, as he most recently did in the Season 3 finale (after being killed off months prior). When asked if Neal’s name would come up as Emma, Rumple et al traverse the Underworld, Kitsis said, “I think that it would be very disappointing for her to go down there and not have somebody talk about Neal.” In addition to his role on NBC’s midseason drama Game of Silence (premiering April 7) — in which a rising attorney (Revolution‘s David Lyons) finds his perfect life upturned when his long-lost childhood pals (Raymond-James’ Gil included) threaten to expose a dark secret — the Once alum’s recent TV credits include History’s Sons of Liberty miniseries, as Paul Revere. tvline.com/2016/02/22/once-upon-a-time-michael-raymond-james-returns-neal-season-5/#more-673819

Once Upon a Time Casts Heroes Reborn Baddie as Emma's Badass Mentor
ABC’s Once Upon a Time will flash back an uncharted period in Emma Swan’s past, with the help of Heroes Reborn actress Rya Kihlstedt. TVLine has learned exclusively that Kihlstedt will guest-star in Season 5, Episode 20 — titled “Firebird” and written by Jane Espenson — as Cleo, a bail bondsperson and no-nonsense woman who has pulled herself out of a rough early life and trusts her instincts above all else. The character is described as having “a tough exterior hides a strong nurturing side that isn’t often given a chance to come out.” If that sounds a lot like a certain Savior when we first met her, that is because Cleo was a mentor of sorts to pre-Storybrooke Emma and thus embodies what she might have been had a storybook-toting tyke named Henry not come knocking. “We are going to get a period in time in Emma’s life we’ve never explored before, which is before she became a bail bondsperson,” Once co-creator Eddy Kitsis told TVLine at the 100th-episode party. “And it’s about time!” Kihlstedt’s previous TV credits also include arcs on Nashville and Dexter. ABC’s Once Upon a Time resumes Season 5 on Sunday, March 6. tvline.com/2016/02/23/once-upon-a-time-season-5-cast-rya-kihlstedt/

SPOILERS: Did you get an answer from Once Upon a Time‘s Sean Maguire about the rumor that he’s leaving? —MRikuAs promised in Ask Ausiello, I did ask Maguire about this at the 100th-episode party, and he was (alas) expectedly spoiler-free on his status — though he did acknowledge that dangerous times are ahead for Robin and the other heroes. “We’re going to the Underworld, so I don’t expect much good stuff is going to happen! But as to where it’s going to lead [for Robin], I can’t say,” he hedged. “There are obstacles everywhere — a lot of bad people from the past are coming back and they are not too happy with our heroes. If Once Upon a Time was the Star Wars franchise, this would be Empire Strikes Back. It’s going to get dark, it’s going to be scary, and there will be surprises.” Is Operation Light Swan still on when Once Upon a Time returns? –AllisonNo, it appears Operation Light Swan has served its purpose, to be replaced by a new mission Henry dubs “Operation Firebird.” tvline.com/2016/02/23/once-upon-a-time-season-5-spoilers-robin-hood-staying-leaving/

‘Once Upon A Time’ Casts Duo For Mental Hospital Arc
Hank Harris (The Man in the High Castle) and Being Human alum Sam Witwer have signed on for recurring roles in ABC’s drama series Once Upon a Time. Harris will play Nathaniel, a meek and troubled patient at a mental institution who finds himself trapped under the thumb of its evil and overbearing warden, Jacob (Witwer), who takes pleasure in tormenting his most disturbed and helpless patients. The second half of Season 5 began with a mission to rescue Hook from the Underworld, a mission that turned out to be more difficult than expected as the heroes encountered souls with unfinished business. Harris, repped by Global Artists Agency and the Coronel Group, most recently recurred on Amazon’s Man in the High Castle and WGN’s Salem. Witwer is repped by Gilbertson Entertainment and UTA. Once Upon a Time, now in the second half of Season 5, was recently renewed for a sixth season. deadline.com/2016/03/once-upon-a-time-cast-hank-harris-sam-witwer-mental-hospital-arc-1201720819/Sam Witwer on OUAT!!!
