I liked it. Michael Trevino got a cameo! It did appear he and Caroline are engaged Kiki.?? I'm a sucker for flashbacks when it comes to TVD. And I finally have (had?) a favorite heretic in Oscar! It looks like he returns but will it be by the Phoenix stone? I hope not. That thing is bad news and hopefully they won't overuse it. I'm beginning to think you're right about Jo as the hunter demetra, if they revive her with the phoenix stone. My guess is it will revive a dead person but infuse them with evil. I'd prefer a more character-driven arc with Jo, of Alaric letting go, letting her find peace instead of reviving her, much as I loved Jo. The story with Stefan and Valerie was sweet, as was Valerie hiding herself by Stefan on the bench and telling the end of her story. It will have to come out to Stefan at some point, setting up his hatred of Julian presumably, who appears to be the real big baddie of S7. The pregnancy felt forced to me though. The story worked with Valerie running away to be with Stefan - Julian still had something to hold over her head - without writing in the pregnancy. It bothers me that it's the second violent end to a pregnancy. The whole point of TVD in the beginning was about life: Stefan wanted to feel alive and human and Elena, coming back to life herself after her parents' death, helped him become part of a community again. It does look like there will be some exploration of that theme with Jo's story and the phoenix stone in general - when do you cross the line where being alive isn't worth the cost? Bonnie is just plain hot this season, as is Stefan! Like others have said, I like the Bonnie/Alaric/Damon relationship. Does anyone else think Lily looks like Elena in certain moments?!? With her dark, flat-ironed hair there are times when she turns a certain way or makes a gesture that reminds me of Elena. A little bit of Freud on TVD. i gave this ep. a 4 because I was thoroughly caught up in both story lines and thought they managed to deliver an exposition-heavy episode in clever ways. Many great points, jennifer. In terms of revivification, the pheonix stone could animate the body of the corpse -- as we have seen Ric use it to do -- but the second part perhaps is more dark magic: in order to continue the re-animation, the reincarnate has to actually use/share someone else's soul. Hence the connection with the x-like wound. Or something.Re Hannah the vampire hunter, others posted that she would emerge as a character in Season 7. I don't know if one of the producers said it or if there was a casting call. I think the violent end to the hopeful possibility of both pregnancies is a sign that Season 7 is it? I did not see the connection you made between Lily and Elena -- but what a great observation. Will definitely keep looking for that. Also love that Valerie, Katherine, Caroline and Elena each and all fell for Stefan on first sight. Nonetheless, for a 17-year-old raised by violent, puritanical parents, I still think Stefan got a lot of action -- of course, in the context of most other men -- ie Damon -- being off to war. But now that Stefan is aware of the doppelganger "curse" perhaps he values the women who fall for him for non-magical reasons more highly? Also like the complexity of the note that Stefan was at odds with his father because he perhaps chose not to be at war. Perhaps one of the TVD writers watched the recent re-broadcast of the Civil War documentary series. I like that phoenix stone theory demetra! With so little information, that's a good guess and makes a connection with the cross-shaped bolt wounds. Plus stealing/borrowing souls...a stock but still good explanation. Thanks for the Hannah info; I'm not keeping up with spoilers this season like in the past. You'll be sorry I put the image of Lily/Elena in your head b/c once I saw it, it's become hard to delete. The information that Stefan chose not to go to war caught my attention too, and the fact that Katherine wasn't his first. I know there's a complaint of retconning his entire story. I'm in the mode of accepting new info if it fits with past information. Making Valerie his first fits in as there was no mention that Stefan was a virgin with Katherine. Which reminds me I'm still not satisfied with how they left the Doppelgänger thing but oh well....The bit about Stefan at odds with his Dad over the war....not so sure they did a good job of conveying that in past flashbacks. It seemed like Stefan was very obedient and his Dad favored him. But yes, maybe the documentary did influence including an explanation for why Stefan didn't go to war. I always wondered, because being 17 wasn't a reason not to join the Civil War, even if you ended up in the drum corps or other non-battle position. If the lost pregnancy wasn't a sign that S7 is it, all the future flash forwards make me think that's the case. All or most of the characters will survive a war and find a future. That's a pretty good way to go out.

I don't disagree, I just don't understand! ;)

I understood demetra was saying the loss of hope in a violent end foreshadowed the end of the series, but maybe I'm wrong about her meaning. I was adding a second theory, that the flash forwards are a sign. What do you think amimi, are you seeing anything foreshadowing the end of the series?

You mean a sign other than PW's crotchety attitude? Lol. Actually I'd love for demetra to elaborate... It that would be a real bummer, don't you think, if they end the series on such a hopeless note? Or maybe that's the only way things will ever be in this universe... I don't know. I think they're definitely building to a reconciliation with Lily. I don't think the flash forwards are what really happens - I was a LOST fan and that assumption burned all of us in the end. Something else is going on. But whether the pregnancy losses signal the end? I think they're foreshadowing a pregnancy among our main cast (that was the spoiler I mentioned before), but how that pregnancy will affect the storyline I have no idea. If a baby is in their future, then yes, it's probably a sign that at least some of the group will be settling down.

OK, so you don't think the flash forwards are real, interesting....so they're like someone's dream or an alternate reality/time line, etc. Ok, that's very believable b/c they seem too informative this early in the season for TVD. I do still like the idea of the bolt shooting hunter existing. Re: pregnancies in general, i forgot about the cast pregnancy and how they'll manage it. I tend to think they'll cover it up and pretend it doesn't exist. If they do write it into the script...well, I'd love for TVD to have that type of normalcy and maturation, although how the pregnancy would occur will probably involve some type of stone or potion or talisman or witchy woo-woo - whatever it is, I hope not to roll my eyes.

I believe the flashforwards show a future that can still be changed. Maybe at some point one or all characters will have a vision about these flashforwards and the season goal will be to change the future to something better

I guess I was just reading the way they so quickly ended the possibilities of Jo's pregancies last year, and now retrospectively Valerie's, in the same way Sheriff Forbes spent her last day at work reviewing her active files: putting an end to the "what ifs." Because I am Team Stefan, the introduction of the possibility -- and then the immediate loss of possibility -- of a natural child for Stefan seemed like a pretty finite decision. I actually gasped out loud when Julian said Valerie was carrying Stefan Salvatore's child. Because this is one of our greatest dreams for Stefan. But no -- it is gone.

Maybe at some point one or all characters will have a vision about these flashforwards and the season goal will be to change the future to something better I hope your right, but I don't think this show is that evolved anymore. The writers don't seem to be that creative anymore, so I think it's written in stone. Something happened to split the characters, and the huntress is the way to reunite them again.

It is fun, and also pretty accurate.
