Liked the episode, Damon's heart rip was the best. One heretic down! Well done. Don't miss Elena and if they could all stop talking about her every 5 minutes all would be fine. Have I mentioned that I can't stand Enzo... what a waste of space!

Finally something to guess about. Why is Damon in a coffin? what's that scar that Stefan shares with that heretic guy? And what's that ball Alaric has and Lily is looking for??

My thoughts exactly, time for some speculation. The resurrection stone might hold the secret to the heretics longevity, since Lily was unable to revive guy#1 (not bothering to learn names yet), yet she explained to Stefan they've survived so long for a reason. They can survive an explosion but not a heart rip? Waiting to see how mythology handles that one. I'm curious to see how the split between Damon/Bonnie and Stefan/Caroline plays out. Also curious who the mystery lady brandishing the arrows is. Someone from the heretics past. Maybe Kat got resurrected and never bothered to mention to the boys that part of her 500 years was spent hunting their mother. It's interesting that they introduced a family and a stone for this season. Maybe an attempt to re-create S2.

Please don't call it moonstone In season 1 or 2 we learned that vampires suffer a lot when they don't drink blood. The Originals were only sleeping comfortable because they were daggered. So how is Damon happily asleep in his coffin?

So Caroline is going to get kidnapped and tortured soon... oh ok. That is new and refreshing. Why didn't they just kill Elena off, this whole letters to Elena voice over mess is annoying. not killing her off was the worst thing they decided to do. Watching Caroline and Stefan make out is like watching paint dry. I got nothing. Caroline had better chemistry with Enzo while he was kidnapping her.
The Heretics...the only one I found intriguing was the one who didn't talk. long witchy chanting that turned on some sprinklers, then caught some things on fire and while girlish giggling. These villains are *yaawwwwwn* and seemingly easy to kill. We got rid of the Gemini coven for these toothless jerks? I almost miss Markos. and why in the hell would they want to live in an empty town with no fresh food supply? Still sounds like prison. Lets just shoot ahead to time jump where at least that looks like it could be interesting.
poor Matt. just poor Matt.

Maybe an attempt to re-create S2. Yeah. Like if your heart flies out of your body when you get blowed up, and you show up the next day in new clothes -- why all the drama about Malcolm when Damon pulls out his heart?

Overnight ratings at 1.37 million. Could have been worse.

Overnight ratings at 1.37 million. Could have been worse. That is pretty damn bad though. 0.6 ...like a 33% drop from last years opener I think. Its not a good trend.

But the "main" character -- and what has been the main romantic relationship for the last three years -- did walk. Also -- Stefan looked gorgeous. :)
