It actually shouldn't put the writers in a precarious position because they shouldn't placate the fans in that manner in the first place. It isn't like it helps them in any sort of ratings battle, actually it has proven to show the opposite results and you start alienating casual fans of the show. You can give a wink or nod to the dedicated fan base without abusing the story to do it. Yes, Yes I am beating the dead horse when I once again will use the quote, "don't give the fans what they want, give the fans what they need" Sometimes the two don't go hand in hand. That Klaroline hook up was the prime example of the awful side of social networking controlling the writers. Terribly sloppy, totally incongruent to the plot. I don't love them placating to fans either, but I didn't have a problem with the Klaroline hook-up. That's a storyline that needed to be resolved in some way or other, and if it meant appeasing a few vocals fans at the same time, so be it. Maybe the randomness of it screamed of fan service, but it was still a tread that needed to be tied off, and tied it they did. But you do have a point: social media is playing too big of a role in their decision making for my tastes. Unfortuneately, that is the society we live in now, and since it's a young, hip show, it kinda hard to just ignore that aspect of the fandom. They need to draw a line between appeasement to fans and what's most important for the show though. So far they haven't done the best job of it. Honestly I thought they tied off the Klaroline storyline PERFECTLY with the season 4 finale... When he lets Tyler return and says "he may be your first love, but I intend on being your last." We don't need to seal that off with random forest sex. unnecessary and gratuitous. The Graduation ending left it more charming, mysterious, and romantic with some sense of hope. The tree romp cheapened it and made it feel simple and casual. *shrug* Society may be driven by social media but that doesn't mean writers of tv shows have to pay lip service to it. It hasn't shown in any manner to actually improve the quality of a show OR the size of its audience. Just focus on writing a good show, the audience will follow. If the audience wants to see ships sail and have weddings and whatever else then that is what fan fiction is for... go for it. I'm salty and stressed right now (world cup) so I'm lippier than usual.

Because of the ratings situation, I'm thinking we might see more than one possible resolution, staged mid-year, end of Season Six. My hope is that the international audiences for TVD will carry us through a seven-year story arc. Julie Plec mentioned a writing boot camp for Season Six as having happened late winter-early spring. The production team Tweeted they were back to work early June, and someone else said the actors come back after July 4. I thought the actors would have more of a break but those that aren't doing movies seem to spend the whole hiatus doing TVD conventions around the world. Pretty intense schedule for seven straight years. (Sorry -- getting older. Sometimes I need to write myself little notes to keep track of the time frame.) The three principals did seem to spend the whole of the hiatus totally apart, though. I was also surprised that they already had film date already booked. But then when you think about it. They finished filming in April? So 2 months off. And yeh the cast seems to be heavily into their commitments. Ian's busy with his activist duties, Nina was filming (and now vacationing), Candice was on her bachelorette vacation as well as hanging with her fiance. Kat's been doing cons as well as helping others. The boys, Trevino, Steven, Zach Roerig and Michael Malarkey seemed to be at cons most of their time. And space makes the heart grow fonder. Hahah when theyre with each other constantly for 10 months, some space probably is needed. Hahah not that they even went 2 months with out seeing each other. I'm pretty sure the cast and crew are getting a jump on things because of San Diego Comic Con near the end of July. EPs and actors will be able to answer more questions at the panel, and we all love the trailers they put together out of episodes they've filmed so far. I don't know how the writers or actors feel, but I would be proud to show off those trailers to devoted fans after so much hard work. I'm also pretty sure that actors don't have to go to every convention that they've been to. They get invited to events organized by private companies and they can decline, but actors who aren't very famous might agree to panels and photo ops because it's a good way to stay in the spotlight and grow their own fan base. Considering how hard Ian Somerhalder is working, I wouldn't be surprised if he isn't in every episode in Season 6. He and Kat Graham are both working on projects that take up a lot of time, and that might keep them from being in Atlanta for every TVD episode. For the sake of continuity, they could have already filmed flashbacks or whatnot that would show them as they were in Season 5. As far as how much screen time they get, we might see Ian Somerhalder in every episode but only see Kat Graham in half as many eps, depending on the storyline. I've mentioned before that I don't usually believe everything on the internet, especially if actors who are under contract appear to be bashing their bosses. There's obviously misquoting going on when that happens. For all anyone knows, Nina Dobrev could be perfectly happy being on a TV show and filming movies during her breaks. I trust video interviews, and I watched one once where Nina said that she had to go to several auditions a day for years before she got her big break with TVD. I don't think she's going to forget how hard it is to find work, and everyone knows what happens to actors who snub TV roles in favor of movies. They get maybe one or two good movie roles before they disappear or end up back on TV again in shows that few people have heard of.

Agreed, the heroism needs to be shared around a little. Bonnie knew her chances were minimal of making it through this, but she chose to go down saving others, a true heroine. Damon actively chose to risk his life to save his brother (calculated or not, it was still ballsy), Elena joining him was an intended curve ball, but ultimately a heroic decision, and Matt and Jer had their moment of triumph too! Ultimately, the only collateral damage was Damon and Bonnie, the plan worked. Most got through alive, others found peace, and the travelers were defeated, job done. I'm lost here, how was Damon letting Elena risk her life (for nothing) heroic ?
EH! you lost me??? Elena made a choice, it was heroic and brave. That is my perception . I loved that part.

There's a link to an article here that includes a quote from Kat Graham: www.spoilertv.com/2014/06/latest-from-tvline-various-shows-24th.htmlI'm not surprised by this. Kat said that Bonnie will be back, but she doesn't know in what form or for how long. This leads me to believe that a botched resurrection might bring Damon and Bonnie back as some sort of spirits who are in the world and interacting with the living but can't affect anything. It wouldn't be the same as the Other Side, where only certain people could see and talk to ghosts, and only if the living thought about the ghosts. I think Damon and Bonnie would be partially resurrected so that they are back in the world but aren't actually living in it. This will probably be caused, in part, by Stefan refusing to give up on saving his brother from some dark dimension. I also think Elena will dream about Damon and Bonnie at peace. Elena has experienced a lot of changes since what Katherine did to her, and at one point she bordered on psychic. It's hard to say what Elena has turned into, but it scared her enough that she wanted to cling to Stefan and Damon in order to hold onto who she was. Elena somehow saw Aaron with his throat ripped out, even though she didn't know yet what happened to him, and it couldn't have just been a venom-induced hallucination because Aaron tried to comfort her in the vision instead of taunting her. She might subconsciously reach out and see Damon and Bonnie, or maybe she'll just see their situation the way her mind might interpret it. She would have an idea where they are, and she would know if they're okay and what they're doing. We're supposed to see a different side of Elena, and her ability to see things could be her "coping mechanism." Elena being able to do this would be so hard to believe that Stefan would dismiss it as part of her grief and continue trying to bring Damon back, laboring under the belief that Damon is suffering somewhere. Caroline will probably want to help Stefan try to resurrect Damon and Bonnie. She's supposed to want to bring everyone back together in addition to wanting to break the spell over the town. Somehow I think that Elena will disagree with her about that last part. Elena has Alaric back, and he was a vampire hunter just like Elena's family. The Founders fought very hard to keep vampires away from the humans in Mystic Falls, and while this is just my theory, I think the Original Witch left a lot of darkness behind that drew vampires to that location. The spell over the town eliminates witch magic, including any mystical mark that the Original family would have left behind. The Originals no longer have any interest in returning to Mystic Falls, so they might be helpful if Caroline finds someone willing to break the spell over the town. As much as Klaus cared about Caroline, a conversation between Katherine and Nadia sort of hinted that Klaus loves Elena. I'm not saying he's IN love with her, but from the start he expressed appreciation for her because she's the reason he was able to break his curse. Elena can also be considered the reason that Klaus can have children. He was on the verge of tears when he confronted Rebekah after the first time she tried to kill Elena. He didn't mention hybrids, he just asked Rebekah how she could do that to Elena.

I would love to see the telepathy phenomena explored in S6. I'm sure Elena was able to communicate with Damon this way in the books when he died.

I saw his question to Rebekah as how could his sister do something like that to him, ie, deprive him of something he needed to create hybrids. At the end of Season 3, Klaus was more than happy to abandon Elena--again!--after he'd drained her of as much blood as he could. I think Klaus loves/desires Stefan, and saw Elena as a way to torment Stefan and to test Stefan's professed loyalty.

When Elijah offered Klaus a way to be able to use the doppelganger's blood yet still save the doppelganger, Klaus had no such interest. Nor did he care about Elena's life for the ritual at the end of season 2, still knowing he could break the curse AND save Elena. His anger with Rebekah was just like demetra says, he saw it as just another betrayal of a sibling towards him. but Klefan love...that is strong. and onesided. poor Klaus. and let's face it, Klaus is on the verge of tears a lot. Mainly because JoMo is the master thespian at crying! All hail a Klaus single tear, it's a thing of beauty.

Did anyone else hear about the CW premiere dates? TVD is airing before all of the other shows. That music festival can't be a reason because it isn't being aired live. The CW could have decided to air it over a weekend. I wonder if TVD airing so soon means that we'll see more episodes before the winter hiatus, or maybe TVD and TO episodes had to be aligned so that characters or storylines in one show can be mentioned in the other show without any continuity problems. I almost lost it when Klaus said that Bonnie told him the Other Side was disintegrating. Finally, there was a nod to something that isn't part of the Original family's backstory.
I won't go as far as to think there might be a crossover coming. Those tend to lead to disaster. Julie Plec would have to keep a very close watch over her subordinates if or while a crossover is written. I wonder if Damon and Bonnie's deaths will be mentioned on TO, or news of The Original Witch being alive might travel to characters on TVD. Esther caused so much pain and suffering on TVD that her resurrection and revenge should not be a story limited to TO. Even Mikael hunted Elena when she was a child. It would be a good storyline if Elena found out that the Original Witch is alive and either Elena got hunted by a witch coven trying to help Esther get power, or if both Alaric and Elena tried to figure out if there's anything they should do to keep Esther from taking control of Alaric again if she finds out he's alive.

Okay, I have a new theory about what's going on with Damon. Ian Somerhalder just tweeted that he can't be reached because he's buried deep in the Georgia woods, he left his cell phone somewhere, and he'll resurface soon. It occurred to me for the first time how the writers might have gotten around resurrecting Damon after they said there would be no more resurrections. I don't think a witch will bring Damon back, or if one does, it'll go terribly wrong. If IS's tweet is taken as a hint rather than sarcasm about Damon being dead and not staying dead forever, Damon might wake up in his own casket and have to dig his way out. That brings another question: will Damon be the same as he was, mentally, when he returns? Will he be affected by wherever he was or how long he was gone? It would be really interesting if he wakes up human with no memory of being a vampire, and he mistakes Elena for Katherine. If he does come back from the dead and finds himself underground, it would be scarier if he's human and could run out of air before he surfaces.
I wonder what it'll be that brings him back, probably along with Bonnie. Maybe Elena will get into a fight and bleed all over the place in the woods. Her blood is supposed to be helpful in bringing back the dead, and now that she's the last of her line of doppelgangers, who knows what she can do.
The only thing that concerns me is that Alaric will have no way of getting a daylight ring. Last I checked, he was a night walker.

I thought TVD filming wasn't due to start until after 4th July? Unless he is doing stuff for TO, they have talked about TVD cast members being in TO early season.

Charles Michael Davis was misquoted after saying at a convention that people might be able to get TVD cast members on TO if they tweeted Julie Plec enough. Someone, or maybe more than one person, automatically started a rumor that there was going to be a crossover even though CM Davis said himself that he hadn't heard anything about one. Internet bloggers picked up the rumor and the whole thing went wild. If there are plans to bring any TVD characters onto TO, there will be an announcement at some point from a reliable source. Filming for TVD is supposed to start on July 7. Michael Malarkey tweeted that he has a couple more days before he starts his cross-country road trip to Atlanta.

Theoretically, there's no reason that Damon's body wouldn't find a home in the Salvatore crypt. If there still is a body. Then: Elena and Stefan are both back, but what does that mean for Elena's body? Did it just disappear when she returned?

Then: Elena and Stefan are both back, but what does that mean for Elena's body? Did it just disappear when she returned? I also didn't understand the mechanics of people getting resurrected just by passing through Bonnie. Elena just found her body and then ran back to Bonnie to pass back through her. It seemed a little rushed and silly. I don't think Damon could be buried in the Salvatore crypt because only humans would have been able to bring his body there. The vampires, especially Stefan, would have wanted to be actively involved in Damon's burial. Since Stefan is going to be running around trying to find a way to resurrect Damon, I can see why he wouldn't bother asking someone to bury Damon's body in a family crypt. It would feel too permanent. For all we know, Damon was buried the same way as Aaron Whitmore. Damon's body could have been buried quickly to hide what really happened to the Mystic Grill, and while I'm sure a memorial was held, perhaps no one concerned themselves with where he was buried because at the time they had every intention of resurrecting him.

There's still Jeremy, Matt and even Tyler who could help Elena and Stefan retrieve Damon's body. Also Sheriff Forbes.
In terms of your idea about Damon digging himself out of the ground, that is how he came back to the living in the books.
