www.eonline.com/news/445630/once-upon-a-time-in-wonderland-mad-hatter-rumors-storybrooke-similarities-and-a-psychedelic-romanceOne thing they have made clear which has made my day: Sebastian is irreplaceable as the Mad Hatter!
One lingering question about Once connections is also whether or not we will see Sebastian Stan’s Mad Hatter in Wonderland. “We literally run his fan club,” Edward Kitsis admits. “But his schedule is so packed. We would move heaven and earth to let him come back on either show. He’s doing Captain America now, and with our schedule for Wonderland, I don’t know if they are going to match up,” Kitsis admits. “We’ve had to design this first season with the reality that he probably is not available. There is an open door if he is ever available and wants to do it. We would happily bring him in and if the show continues on and he’s willing. No one would be more thrilled.,” Horowitz promises. One thing is for sure: If we ever do see the character, he will be played by Sebastian Stan. “We are never going to have a Mad Hatter that isn’t played by Sebastian. So we are not recasting him. We are just going to keep that seat empty until he’s able to come back,” Kitsis assures.

Peter Gadiot: Interview With Once Upon A Time In Wonderland’s Genie
KSITETV'S CRAIG BYRNE: What can you tell us about Cyrus?PETER GADIOT: Cyrus is a genie with a dark past and a mysterious background. He's also an action hero. He's a great fighter. You'll see that he teaches Alice all of her famous ass-kicking skills. This isn't official, but I like to see him very much in the vein of a buccaneer pirate, and also, a little bit of Indiana Jones, and that kind of thing. Do you think he's a good guy? You just mentioned a dark past...
You know... I do not know, but it's open to conjecture. You know how these writers write. They like to flip things on their head; so I think that idea, that possibility, is very interesting. Do you think he is as wonderful as Alice might think he is?
In terms of Alice, I don't think there's anything for her to worry about. She, in essence, brings out the good in him; makes him realize he can be free. But the darkness I was referring to, is possibly more to how he became enslaved as a genie, and the pain he's gone through, of being a servant with no freedom. How do you think he would interact with the Knave of Hearts if they were to meet?
I think, ultimately, he is someone who is honorable, and he's going to look out for Alice; and if [Cyrus] thinks that the Knave is a good, honest influence, he'll embrace that. If he thinks the Knave is questionable, then he'll treat him with caution. Do you know what kind of interaction Cyrus might have with Jafar (Naveen Andrews)?
It's going to be a thing like snakes and ladders, where he'll have the upper hand on me for a while, and then I'm going to get the upper hand on him, and it's a battle of two powerful people. Had you been a fan of the original Once Upon A Time prior to getting this role?
You know what, I was aware of the show, but I hadn't become a fan... but now, being a part of the "family" and seeing the cast, I am a fan now. Are there any characters from the original show that you would like to interact with on the new one?
I'm a big fan of Robert Carlyle. I'd quite like his character to come on. I'd love to do some scenes with him. How would you pitch Once Upon A Time In Wonderland to someone who's never seen Once Upon A Time before?
I would say, Once Upon A Time In Wonderland is inspired by Alice In Wonderland, but it's its own original spin with characters you recognize, but with a new twist, and also new characters... it's an epic love story with action and adventure.

SPOILER:
Question: I’d like some Once Upon a Time in Wonderland scoop, please. —Mason
Ausiello: The Once spin-off will, in its third episode, sic no less than Beowulf‘s Grendel on Alice and The Knave. Envisioned (via an actor in prosthetics) as a “large, warted, ogre-like beast,” the cannibalistic Grendel will pose a mortal threat to its dinner the genie-seeking pair — though in typical Once fashion, there is more to this beast than meets the eye. But don’t go brushing up on your Old English just yet. “It’s a wink-and-a-nod, as opposed to a real deep-dive into Beowulf,” says series cocreator Adam Horowitz of the creature’s clash with Alice.

CASTING SCOOP: Once Upon a Time in Wonderland Exclusive: Keith David to Voice Cheshire Cat
ABC’s Once Upon a Time in Wonderland has called upon a very cool cat and voice work veteran, Keith David, to voice its Cheshire Cat.
Alice’s feline foil will first “appear” (or, you know, not) in the premiere episode of the Once spin-off’s freshman season.
Elsewhere “behind the scenes,” John Lithgow (3rd Rock from the Sun) voices Wonderland’s White Rabbit, while The Who’s Roger Daltrey is reprising his Once role as the hookah smoking Caterpillar.
In addition to David’s on-camera work on TV series (such as the upcoming Fox comedy Enlisted, The Cape and ER) and on the big screen, his extensive voiceover resume includes the Saints Row and Marvel’s Heroes videogames, narrating History’s The Bible miniseries and Community‘s “Pillows and Blankets” episode, and the animated series Gargoyles and Spawn.
Wonderland premieres Thursday, Oct. 10 at 8/7c.
Alice in Wonderland was always one of my favorite Disney movies & the Cheshire cat is still one of my favorite characters. He was always up to no good!

Found in Wonderland: A Non-Love Triangle, a Red Queen/Jafar Alliance and Surprise Appearances
ALICE’S HEART IS WITH CYRUS | The series’ quest revolves around Alice’s (played by Sophie Lowe) search for her lost love, the genie Cyrus (Peter Gadiot). Helping her along the way is the roguish Knave of Hearts (Michael Socha of the UK’s Being Human), who may turn out to be something more? Nah! “They’re just friends,” maintains Lowe. “I feel like it’s very rare in TV these days to have friends that are boys and girls, and it’s really cool to have that.” Adds Socha about the strictly platonic pair: “I owe Alice a favor. She got me back my heart — whether I want it back or not is a different thing. But I’ve got a massive loyalty [to] Alice.”
No triangle! Imagine that! Boy & Girl just friends! Sign me up! THE BADDIES ARE RELUCTANT ALLIES | The Red Queen finds Alice to just be “a little girl that’s now causing her some annoyance,” reveals her portrayer Emma Rigby (Hollyoaks). In fact, her goal is much larger than just wanting to get the Wonderland interloper out of the picture. “She has a motive. It’s not necessarily that she hates Alice or she wants to kill her. It’s something else much grander, something that’s never been done before, that she wants to achieve.” To that end, she allies herself with Jafar (Lost‘s Naveen Andrews), who may turn out to be more foe than friend. “They need each other. But they also don’t trust each other,” explains Rigby. “You’ve got to always watch your back. They know that without the power that they both have, they’ll never ever move forward to get what they both want — and what they both want is conflicting.”
THE KNAVE OF HEARTS IS TROUBLE | Turns out Alice’s pal has something of a dark history and, thus, is reluctant to stay with her. “The Knave’s wanted in Wonderland, by everybody, dead or alive,” reveals Socha, explaining that he “ruined” all his relationships in the magical land. “He spent a long time there with his love. He just [forgot] everybody, and he decided to live on his own. He doesn’t trust anybody, he doesn’t need anybody, he doesn’t want anybody. Alice comes back into his life, and that’s his only care.”
HE GENIE QUESTION REMAINS | Let’s be frank: Genies and Wonderland aren’t your typical mix. The story of where the wish-granters came from and how they got to this wondrous land will remain something of a mystery – for now. “The creators very much said they were going to explore the genie mythology more,” says Gadiot. “And we have in terms of one aspect, but in terms of where they originally come from, we haven’t got there yet. We haven’t found out how Cyrus gets in the bottle. We are going to find out, for sure, but that’s been held back for the second half of the season.”
Once Upon a Time in Wonderland Season 1 SpoilersTHE COSTUMES ARE HEAVY AND MAKE YOU EEEEVIL | Forget lifting weights. Just try sporting one of the Red Queen’s elaborate outfits all day. “The first one that I had actually weighed five pounds!” Rigby exclaims. “It was so heavy. It does affect how you are, and that’s important. [Costume designer] Eduardo [Castro] is an unbelievable talent.” The get-ups also lend themselves to the the villainous character’s “fabulous” personality. “It’s not so serious,” continues Rigby. “She’s enjoying it. It’s like she’s playing a game. Everybody likes to pretend they’re a little bit bad sometimes.”
THE WORLD WILL GROW | The Cheshire Cat (voiced by The Cape‘s Keith David) and the hooka-smoking caterpillar (voiced by Iggy Pop) aren’t the only Wonderland characters we’ll see this season. “There is actually Tweedles,” reveals Socha. Adds Rigby: “The great thing about the Red Queen is because she’s the ruler of Wonderland, she has access to all the people that are in Wonderland. There are lots of characters that are my favorite that are going to be a surprise.”
