I'm just waiting for Oliver to return to Starling city. Fortunately, it looks like that's next episode? I've only seen the promos, haven't read any spoilers.
Ugh. The scenes of Lance talking about or to his sister, they just kill me. The actor plays such a good dad, and ugh, now I want to go back and watch the scene in s2 in which they reunite.
I'm sure the topic has already been exhausted but since I'm not part of the online Arrow fandom... The role Brandon Routh is playing is very reminiscent of the role he played in the tv series Chuck. His wife had died there, too, and he was on a revenge kick. Albeit there, he ended up as a villain...
I know a lot of people dislike Laurel, but I don't. I'd just prefer it if she didn't rekindle her romance with Oliver, because Olicity.

His wife had died there, too, and he was on a revenge kick. Albeit there, he ended up as a villain... I know a lot of people dislike Laurel, but I don't. I'd just prefer it if she didn't rekindle her romance with Oliver, because Olicity. Malcolm Merlyn <3 John Barrowman is so deliciously good as Merlyn. I love that Thea stood her ground about staying, about how he taught her to be bold, that Ra's should be afraid of them and not the other way around (though really you should always fear Ra's Al Ghul.) Thea's growth has been great. and I love her hair now. I don't dislike Laurel the character per se...I just don't like Katie Cassidy in the role. I think her acting is very meh. Plus some of her decision making sometimes just makes me want to punch a wall. Especially keeping Sara's death from her dad. That was killing me, that phone call when she was pretending to be Sara. Not that the show follows the comics that closely BUT Black Canary and Green Arrow marry at some point (they also divorce) but Felicity Smoak wasn't a character in the comics so she changes all that. Olicity is the long game. It just has to be, Felicity is always the one who can get through to Oliver, he listens to her. and she believes in him when he needs it. Plus I think the fact that she knows Oliver post island and not the Oliver before island is what he needs. It always annoys me when Laurel says she knows him better than anyone else when I feel like (even in the flashback scenes) she didn't really know him at all. She just had this idea of the what she wanted Oliver to be. I think Sara knew Oliver better, even pre island. I'm with you on Cap't Lance and his awesome dadness. Paul Blackthorne is an amazing actor (I loved in the short lived Dresden Files). If they ever decide to kill him off, I will be so pissed. I also love Alex Kingston (River Song!) as Laurel's mom. The Lance parents were just so well cast. I wish she was on the show more, I love her scenes with Paul and that scene between her and Laurel when she finds out about Sara. So good. I'm curious to where they will take the Ray Palmer/ATOM thing because that could easily parlay itself into its own show. Don't worry his ATOM mission doesn't really keep on the revenge track, Ray is a good guy and just wants to do good for the city. I have to admit that I love the Ray Felicity stuff and wouldn't mind them as a couple for awhile (like I said...Olicity is the long game, look at all the relationships of Oliver's that Felicity had to get through) because he is pretty cute with our girl. She deserves that attention and adoration. Smoak is amazing.

I will gather my thoughts on this episode later, after I rewatch but... YAY Oliver is back! but that last scene with Felicity had me like this I wanted to throw something at my tv. Damn you writers for putting Olicity through the ringer like this. Can't even get one happy moment without it getting crushed shortly after. I feel like I watched someone kick a puppy...MY EMOTIONS!!

Haven't watched the episode yet because I've been out all day, but I did sneak a peek at the Olicity scene at the end (couldn't help myself) and ugh. My emotions indeed. I don't want to say it so as not to jinx it, but it seems obvious to me that the writers love Olicity and are building them up towards something wonderful. At least for a while.

I totally get where Felicity was coming from in that scene though. She has every right to say what she said. Felicity has shown that she is steady and true in her convictions and has been since the beginning and I am glad to see her stand strong and not waver just because of what Oliver decides. I'm wondering how Diggle really feels about it too, especially considering what he said earlier in the episode. This is definitely a decision that is fracturing Team Arrow and not just Felicity and Oliver. Just wait until Oliver finds out about Laurel's amped up Black Canary involved under the guidance of Team Arrow. He is going to be pissed.
While I fully understand the enemy of my enemy is my friend, this is still slightly illogical decision making from Oliver. Merlyn wanted you to defeat Ra's before, maybe he should have thought to train you then. Merlyn continues to use Oliver without Oliver realizing. If anything the "student" that will defeat the "teacher" its going to be Thea. Thea has been training for 6 months the league of assassins style. She is far more advanced in sword skills than Oliver at this point. Of course Merlyn knows her growing abilities and is continuing to keep that from Oliver. Again for Oliver his family is his blind spot. And he needs to get over the fact that the women in his life (be it Thea, Laurel, or Felicity) make their own independent choices, are strong, and don't always need his protection.

Tonight's episode gave me ALL THE TEARS. The relief on Oliver's face when he told Thea the truth and she was amazingly rational about it. The wonderful moment with Felicity and Laurel in the Foundry. And Laurel finally telling her dad about Sara. So heartbreaking. I have to watch this episode again...so much was going on. And next week looks even better (Just hearing Slade call Oliver "kid" again...YAAAASSS!). I love the flip of having modern day be at Lian Yu and the flashbacks be in Starling City.

I really have a hard time finding a connection between the flashbacks and the present time. What do the flashbacks want to tell me? I just don't get it. Ok, with Lian Yu it shows how they got to know each other. But the whole Island story was so confusing. Maybe because English is not my native language I might miss out on something

Sorry Kiki been meaning to answer this but got real busy the past few days. Anyway...flashback connections. I think the greatest importance of the flashbacks isn't just to show the connection to characters from past to present day, whether it be Slade, Amanda Waller, Maseo and Tatsu, but I think it is to show Oliver's journey into Arrow. How does one just be deserted on an island for 5 years, just show back up and become this highly skilled vigilante? To show us what happens to Oliver in those 5 years help us know what motivates his character, and also why he can do the things he can do. They are effectively pulling back the curtain to see HOW he became the Arrow, without just telling us to suspend disbelief and accept the fact he is super skilled and trained killer. Plus a lot of the lessons he learns along the way in those flashbacks come back to be relearned in the parallel storyline. Clearly sometime in the past he hooked up with Anatoli (the russian guy) again who then initiated Oliver into the bratva (russian mafia) so that will eventually be told in flashbacks as well. I find it all fascinating because it fully fleshes out Oliver's journey, instead of just letting the audience assume what happened on the island (and other places) we get to see it.

"you're cute" the utterly ridiculous fangirl in me squealed at that scene.
So much packed into this episode...loved these series of flashbacks with Oliver in Starling City. It also made me realize how much I miss Tommy. Tommy trying to take care of Thea in those scenes...just awwww, you ARE her brother Tommy. and holy hell Daddy Lance was a brutal drunk, but those scenes gave some insight into Laurel's character and that devastating scene at Sara's grave between Quentin and Laurel. ouch. Then Thea learning the truth about Sara. and eff Merlyn...Oliver how can you still even want to train with him, he has shown his level of training. I would think the flashback to Robert Queen's video to Ollie should serve as a reminder to Oliver that working with evil people strips you of your soul. and Merlyn how they hell can you say that you love Thea or did it all for Thea when Thea wasn't actually in ANY danger from the LoA until YOU put her there by your actions in drugging and manipulating her. Bottom line, another stellar episode.

I so love this scene. Slade is everything in this. That voice. The fact that he mentions Felicity and not Laurel...yeah, that season 2 "ruse" be damned, even Slade knows and he ships it. And when Slade can recognize Merlyn is a truly sick psycho, you betta recognize.

Maybe because English is not my native language I might miss out on something The "flash backs" were really kinda cryptic last season.... Even the zealots were crying .... The Island story was just background to show his progression through perilous times..... the stuff with Lian Yu was a bit deeper and had bearing on present day ( I admit I was saying ....WHY) more than once. Still a great series.... I think the action scenes may be the best on TV..... lots of Choreographing, and they do it well....
