What did I like? The old Damon is back. :) I gave it a four but when I went to fill in the survey, I couldn't quite say why. The episode felt like a bit of a retread on Esther's party way back when. I was sorry about the outcome for Lily -- but the impact of it was totally diluted by the presence of all the heretic "children". I literally couldn't give a crap about any of them except Beau. I liked the Lily-Enzo scene actually, but it was outshone by Matt once again truth-speaking the meta-narrative about the sheer pointlessness of Enzo's presence in Mystic Falls. In earlier episodes, I was engaged with Jo and Alaric, and the outcome for Alaric -- shouldn't I be as engaged about the outcome on Enzo with what happened to Lily? I am interested to know who Matt's new buddies are.
I found this one interesting for possible future implications. Like did Lily really die or did we just see whatever witchy mojo they use on Damon later? If she's in a death-like state to protect her from Julian, people were in on it. My guesses are Stefan, Valerie and Beau. Maybe Damon? I'm not sure given the flash-forward. I liked finally hearing a bit more about Beau's story, that he was once a singer with a beautiful voice. I'm looking forward to hearing more about his story, and he's the only heretic I can say that about too demetra . Yay for Matt getting a kick-ass scene! Smart move calling for back-up. Although it bothered me that his scene with Enzo sounded like more foreshadowing that Matt will die. I hope this is deflection on the writers' part.
The scenes between Stefan and Caroline were anti-climactic and lacking in emotion, considering the impact of her message. As usual in the last few seasons, action trumps relationships. The main compelling character-driven stories continue to be the flash-forwards.
I counted TWELVE producers, co-producers, co-executive producers and executive producers (not counting Julie and Kevin) in the credits. Another sign that this is it? They were all past writers and producers who've been on the show for a long time, like Paschal Verschooris, Rebecca Sonnenshine, Brett Matthews, Melinda Hsu Taylor, etc.The imdb page expanded the crew credits to cover every person who has worked on the show in any capacity. Sounds like the tributes have begun. Next will be flashbacks to past characters or actual characters returning (like hopefully Jeremy moshe12 !!)

Forgot to say that the reason for all the compelled people on IV's was very underwhelming. Another party, really? Klaus would've had such a better plan...

Yes, if Matt dies, that will be dreadful. Wouldn't it be great if all the flash forwards were really about the gang coming back together to somehow save Matt? He's always been treated as so disposable. And yet -- Elena sacrificed her human life to save Matt. Technically Stefan also sacrificed Elena's life to save Matt. Hmm.

Now that would be a very fitting conclusion to how the show started and what mattered most: friends, family, taking care of each other. Since Matt's not showing up in the flash-forwards either something is going on with him or it's just a tease. It would be truly awesome if he turned out to be the hero! The hunter said Damon wasn't the one she was after, and it sounds like Stefan is the quarry she's hunting; maybe Matt will swoop in and save the day!
I cant believe I am saying this, but I am loosing interest in watch TVD on Thursdays ;/ Like if I miss it and watch it on the weekend, its not a big thing. That being said I did watch it on Thursday hahaha. The episode was ok. THe only shocking things I got was the flash forward where it turned out LILY wasnt really LILY and the fact Damon let his mother die thinking he hated her. My mouth dropped in that moment lol I was like OHHHH DAMON U SAVAGE HAHAH.
Im starting to kind of like Valerie but I still feel she is up to no good. Also THe Steroline scene felt cheap this week. When is the last time we got a real "Im going to say I love you for the first time" scene since STELENA in season 1 -_-
Enzo and MAtt get on my nerves...its like they cant stay away from eachother. Matt shouldve moved to another state completely to stay away from everyone.
No bonnie ;/
New hunters are interesting...wonder if they are with tyler and jeremy
I only watched it once yet but am I wrong or did the flashforward change after Lily died? First it was Lily and Damon in the flashforward and in the end it was another woman. Does that mean that they CAN change the future and Lily just did it by killing herself?
Ugh, I thought this episode was terrible. Like really, really horrible. Defan was onscreen for maybe 15% of the hour - this is unacceptable! The heretics are just not compelling or well drawn enough to be featured that heavily. Mary Louise and Nora are especially boring - uninteresting and uncomplicated. A gay plotline in itself does not a good story make - it starts with rich characters, which those two are not.
I don't understand why they keep using food preparation and eating as scene backgrounds. VAMPIRES DO NOT NEED TO EAT HUMAN FOOD. So why would they do so behind closed doors just for kicks? It's just dumb. The party was embarrassing. The biggest mistake this season has made, in my opinion, is asking us to believe that they're all just living regular lives in this ghost town. Are they driving for hours to get groceries?
Lily's death was an insult to the character, her sons and us as viewers. It was cheap and too easy. These are powerful witches, why couldn't they figure something out? I'm sad to see her go - once again, a missed opportunity for the brothers' character development. Although I kind of liked Damon's good riddance speech. Maybe Lily's death signals that we'll be seeing less of this silly group altogether.
I liked a few other things: Beau's moment hearing his own voice; that actor is conveying more emotion without words than the rest of them put together. I also liked Stefan's "I love you," which made up for the OOC way he bailed during the initial heart-to-heart with Caroline.

I liked the episode, it was a bit quiet slow paced for my taste, but I gave 4/5 points this time.
I really like the idea that the new hunters that Matt works with could be Jeremy and also Ty ( I mean Ty keeps popping up here and then)
Now I have a terrible idea, what if that figure in the end that kicked Damon is Elena

Lily was never there. Damon was injected with wolf venom so he was hallucinating lily the whole time (I'm guessing it's because he felt guilty). Also guessing it's the new hunter that looks like Nina.

Hmm, very interesting idea. I thought Damon was just delusional in the beginning from whatever the hunter did to him. I'm still not convinced Lily is dead but if she is, your idea would be a good twist.

That is unacceptable!! They're very appealing together this year. As for Beau, actions do speak louder than words when it comes to the heretics, and his are right on so far. Good point about the food prep. I hadn't noticed that yet because *yawn* was too busy wondering why they think these parties are a good idea (they meaning heretics, writers, etc.).

Lol jennifer - It wasn't just Defan; Stefan and Damon independently are only onscreen for a minuscule amount of time. It was a crying shame.
Evers17: wednesday I didn't get to watch the musketeers 😔 Somehow accidentally deleted my episodes!

DamonSalvatoreSIMP&DelenaLover: 8x16 was great but I'm not a huge fan of Steroline (because I like Klaroline more) so I think It was pretty decent. It was a really emotional episode though. I agree with salvatore123. I cry everytime too, don't worry 😅
