haha! its not a real glowing review if it states that this episode was the best one of the season, but they describe the episode itself was "almost good" ...and that is the state of TVD these days, swimming in mediocrity. or more like drowning in it.

No it is not a glowing review. My five this week was pretty much in the same tone. I just can't understand the rationale of foregrounding the Heretics and continuing to sideline both Bonnie and Matt. However, Stefan and Damon were both very, very pretty this week, and well-costumed.

Vampire Diaries and The Originals to cross over this season
The worlds of Mystic Falls and New Orleans will be coming together as The Vampire Diaries and The Originals stage a crossover this season, CW boss Mark Pedowitz announced at the Television Critics Association’s press tour on Sunday. “You will see, organically, a crossover this year,” Pedowitz said. “Not of the size and scope of we do for Arrow and Flash. They have to make sense [story-wise]. If they don’t make sense story-wise, don’t do it, don’t force it — the audience can tell.” EW can now reveal how the Salvatores and Mikaelsons will cross paths: “It’s something that we’ve always wanted to do, but never could quite find the organic way to do it,” executive producer Julie Plec tells EW. “We never wanted to force it. The storylines happen to match up in a way that Stefan [Paul Wesley] has to go on the run and seek safe haven, and lo and behold, New Orleans is that safe haven, and who does he come face-to face-with but Klaus Mikaelson. It’s a nice two-episode set of Vampire Diaries-Originals cohabitation. It’s going to be good. I’m excited about it.” When the shows return, The Vampire Diaries and The Originals are heading to Friday night. “The move to Friday night is not a move to exile [the shows],” Pedowitz insisted. “It’s a move to strengthen Friday night.” The Vampire Diaries and The Originals return Friday, Jan. 29 at 8 p.m. ET and 9 p.m. ET, respectively, on The CW. www.ew.com/article/2016/01/10/vampire-diaries-originals-crossover-spoilers

Winter TV Preview: Returning Favorites
THE VAMPIRE DIARIES As the viewers are sucked into Damon's personal hell, executive producer Caroline Dries promises a "really fun ride" with the wayward Salvatore, whose experience will have "huge ramifications" on the overall story — and might just trigger the return of a certain Lockwood. Stefan's trip to hell will also have major consequences, though "his hellscape will be shown differently from the way we see Damon's." Back in reality, we'll see Alaric and Caroline's relationship "evolve as these babies bring them together. She's not necessarily falling hard out of love with Stefan. It's in no way a natural progression for a love story." And there's more trouble on the horizon: "Enzo will be our eyes and ears into a new universe we're setting up for the rest of the season. He's looking for a place to fit, and he finds it." (Hint: It has something to do with Matt.) RETURN DATE: Friday, Jan. 29 at 8/7c (The CW) tvline.com/gallery/tv-spoilers-2016-season-premieres-photos/#!21/winter-preview-vampire-diaries/

Question: Any chance we’ll see Elena back on The Vampire Diaries this season? —AshleyAusiello: Not if we’re lucky, Ashley. According to executive producer Julie Plec, the hope is still to bring Nina Dobrev’s character back for the end of the series, so “unless something catastrophic happens” (Plec’s words) and this ends up becoming the final season, don’t expect to see Ms. Gilbert in 2016. “I basically committed to Ian [Somerhalder] and Paul [Wesley] that when they’re ready to be done, I’ll be done,” she adds. “They could be ready very soon, or they could really want to stick it out. Right now, that’s up to them. I’m with them as long as I feel like I can keep telling stories for them.” That said, “there is still a chapter of [Elena’s] story left to be told,” so Plec says she’ll “take [Dobrev] for whatever she’s willing to do to tell that story.” tvline.com/2016/01/22/greys-anatomy-owens-sister-nathan-riggs-transgender-season-12/#more-676515

Vampire Diaries/Originals Crossover: Klaus and Stefan Bond Over ....Now that The CW has confirmed a Vampire Diaries/Originals crossover for later this season, it’s time to talk details. “The crossover was born out Stefan needing a place to escape,” executive producer Julie Plec tells TVLine. “He’s on the run. He needs to go somewhere where magic can’t find him, and we realized he can go to New Orleans where there’s that bar where magic doesn’t work.” Plec planned to leave it at that, a fun episode of The Vampire Diaries with special guest star Klaus Mikaelson — that is, until Joseph Morgan joined the conversation: “Joe said, ‘I’ll happily do it on The Vampire Diaries, but can we do this on The Originals, too?’ We said, ‘If we can come up with something good, absolutely,’ and then we realized we have the perfect storyline already happening: the sire line and the war [between] all the trinity, and the prophecy saying that one of these Originals will die or all of them will fall. The fear of that impacts Stefan directly, and so he sticks around for an Originals episode to participate in the latest dilemma to come out of that situation.” Klaus hasn’t seen Stefan since the hero-haired Salvatore started dating the supposed love of Klaus’ life, but if you’re hoping to witness an all-out battle for the affections of Caroline Forbes, you’re going to be pretty disappointed. “Stefan’s now with Caroline, and Klaus, of course, has just gone through everything he’s gone through with Cami,” Plec reminds us. “They actually have a surprisingly civil and honest conversation about love — what it means and the sacrifices that you have to make in the name of it.” tvline.com/2016/01/22/vampire-diaries-originals-crossover-spoiler-klaus-stefan-caroline/#more-676896

Just finished the final punctuation marks on @young_Brian's #TVD season 7 finale. It's joyful, tearful, suspenseful, and ends with a BANG.

Coming soon – the ‘Vampire Diaries’-‘Originals’ crossover no one wants
It’s no secret that “The Vampire Diaries” and “The Originals” have some of the most promising crossover potential on television right now. Unfortunately, they also have a track record for the most squandered crossover opportunities, no matter how many times their fans cry for the two worlds to reunite. The policy against crossovers between the shows isn’t so much a denouncement of the practice in general, but more a mandate from showrunners Julie Plec and Michael Narducci that crossover episodes must serve a real and organic purpose within the narrative. Basically, if it doesn’t serve the story, it doesn’t happen. That hasn’t stopped most everyone — fans and critics alike — from wondering why every attempt to reunite the two shows seems to fall just short of the extremely low bar that’s been set. From 100th episode reunions that were superfluous at best, to flashback guest appearances that can’t technically be counted as crossovers at all, “The Vampire Diaries” and “The Originals” have dropped the ball more than once, and it seems like they’ll drop it again with their latest crossover news. Don’t feel bad if you had to stop and scratch your head for a minute when you heard the news that Matt Donovan (Zach Roerig) would be the latest character to get the crossover treatment. As the honorary human on “The Vampire Diaries,” Matt Donovan has felt kind of like a security blanket for years now. Sure, you don’t necessarily need him, but it’s nice to know that he’s there just in case. What’s not so nice is deciding to feature Matt as the sole participant in a crossover with “The Originals” when there are quite a few more important players that fans have been dying to see cross over for years. (We think one of their names might rhyme with Smaroline?) Fans were quick to voice their confusion and outrage almost as soon as Access Hollywood broke the news. Maybe this crossover will turn out to be a game changer, and we’ll be sorry for ever criticizing it. After all, Matt’s just taken sole custody of a vampire-free Mystic Falls, where he’ll be coming face to face with Original vampire Finn (Caspar Zafer), whom he killed way back in Season 3. It sure has the makings of good television. Or maybe, this small attempt to bridge the two worlds will be more of the “too little, too late” kind of episodes that we’ve seen too many times before. “The Vampire Diaries” and “The Originals” crossover episode will air April 8 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on The CW zap2it.com/2016/03/vampire-diaries-originals-crossover-matt-donovan-no-one-wants/

www.tvguide.com/news/is-the-vampire-diaries-ending-after-season-8-ian-somerhalder/"There's been some great storytelling, but I'm anticipating being able to get down to brass tacks, which was this very specific, wonderful core group of characters that navigated the treacherous waters of what is Mystic Falls." Ian said something like this last year, and I am glad to hear he still sees it as a vision for Season 8. I just started re-watching Season One AGAIN, and, gosh, the first ten episodes of Season One are really wonderful film making. There is virtually no relationship of the current TVD to Season One. And I think it has to do with the fact that all the humans are gone. The vampires live entirely among themselves. There is no need to live in the shadows. It is totally a supernatural world, which is why it is now a comic strip of its former self. When there are no human characters to care about, no young adult lives to protect -- what's at stake? It's the difference between the first Twilight and Breaking Dawn Two. Then of course I immediately start spiraling down from the high that was the inherent dignity of Stefan's relationship with Elena in Season One. I am at the episode where Damon is about to kill Lexi. It is hard to even watch it unfold knowing everything that has happened since then. How could Damon have killed Lexi? Hm.

Of course those shows are successful because of lots of supernatural action and all the metahuman stuff. But this is not good for TVD fans. Sure some of them like both but the thing that made fans fall in love with TVD was emotions and lovestories. If you try to make it like Arrow you lose fans who like lovestories but I doubt the fans of those comic hero shows will start to watch TVD
