A (generous) pity four. I can't say the news of Elena's departure didn't impact on my viewing. Also it actually made me feel a bit sick to see the "Salvatore Boarding House car port".
It is very weird to be viewing TVD knowing that the dreams of both ships have been sunk. Surreal.
However, I liked Mama Salvatore. Laughed out loud at "Dearest Elena...." I liked that Damon was resolute in his plan and brought Stefan back. I liked that Stefan came back.
What didn't I like? Everything that was funny about Stefan and Caroline being humanity-less prior to the hiatus is no longer humourous now that Elena is out of the picture.
I also didn't like Damon's hair.
And the classic introduction of the unnecessary new class of super-hybrids. What? A little disappointed in the appearance of the Heretics. I thought that they were building up to a big battle sequence with the Gemini coven was enough. But no. Apparently they aren't enough.
I didn't like that there was no Bonnie, and also that I can't remember why there isn't.
I also wish I'd seen Elena's sudden conflict about not having children before I knew of Nina's departure, because now it felt contrived.
I also still don't give a rat's ass about Enzo. I know I should because the guy's human back story is as completely pathetic as his life as a vampire. He was in the workhouse at the age of 4. Really? I thought he was a soldier. I also really didn't follow the psychology of what was happening between Sarah and Enzo.
That seems like a lot of dislikes. But it just felt like the usual weakish 18th episode script. I fear the introduction of the Heretics is too much like Season Five shenanigans. But it has been a very unusual week in TVDland and I liked that I was able to at least watch it live.
PS Props to Ian Somerhalder for even saying the line: "They can siphon it from themselves." Took one for the team there.
Also -- will miss Tyler just for the lack of being able to say: "What in the ____ is Tyler wearing NOW?"

Sorry guys... but just awful. So no one communicates with each other what is going with who and we are supposed to believe they are all good friends? Remember when they all had each other back? But Bonnie is MIA, Matt and Tyler are instantly in police academy, Delena are screwing...and Caroline and Stefan are leaving a body count and they (the gang) are in NO RUSH to stop it, or even tell each other what is going on. Just garbage. Sorry.

Agreed and agreed--this episode was not good. My PVR agreed, too, because it up and deleted the episode as soon as I finished watching it!
I think I like Elena even less now that she leaving. Just don't care. Damon was good in this episode though, in his scenes with Lilly and Stefan.
Lilly lying to Stefan to bring him back actually broke my heart. Poor guy, can't he ever catch a break? This is probably the most profound moment of his life (seeing his long-lost mother and having her redeem him from a century and a half of pain and self hatred) and it's done disingenuously? I teared up, though, as it became clear that Damon was the one really saying those words to his brother. He loves him so much. Defan FTW.
Again with Damon and Elena eating FOOD! It's so ridiculous and yet the writers keep doing it!
I was thoroughly disappointed with Enzo's story--our theories were far superior to that. Although at one point Enzo says that he hasn't heard the lullaby Lilly is singing since he was a child, and she says 'I know', so is there something more to that?
The reveal about the heretics was intriguing but it's so late in the season are we really going to end up caring? Or maybe they'll carry over to next season.
What does Enzo want to do to Sarah? Turn her for no reason just because he was turned? So stupid.
Even Caroline didn't impress. After that intense (and intensely hot) last episode -- sorry guys, I'm shipping it -- she just seemed bored and boring here. Attacking Matt and Tyler was so not cool.
I am now pretty much convinced that any of us could write better episodes underwater. Or in our sleep.

Preach it amimi Adding in a big bad at the last few episodes...UGH are you kidding me? Didn't we suffer through that same crap last season? And Julie admits to screwing up Enzo ...so now we have to suffer through a backstory episode I don't even care about to try and redeem him? So glad Bonnie is back to contribute...oh wait.

I liked Stefan and Lily's reunion. Very Stefan-like. It was the most emotional moment in his life so I get that it was an easy trigger to bring back his humanity. I liked how Matt refused Elena's blood. He is the only one who really sticks to his decision with all consequences.
What I hated was Enzo's storyline with Sarah. What was his plan? Why bring Sarah to Damon? Why not let her go on with her life or at least leave her at her place and tell Damon about her. Why did he take her with him and then tried to get rid of her by bringing her to Damon? What's the use of that? And what happened in her appartment? Did he want to turn her or not to turn her or just tell her is story which she doesn't care about because she doesn't even know him. Delena is just cheesy and built on lies. First the sirebond then the addictive toxic relationship and now Damon is keeping the cure from her only to keep her from leaving him. Well if this is love than I'm glad to be single Caroline and Stefan's bar ripping was just ridiculous. When Stefan was the ripper last time he at least ripped for a purpose and not out of boredom. That was just stupid. And what I hate most lately is all the unfinished storylines. Where is Liv and her father. What about the Gemini coven? Will we ever get a solution for Delena's toxic relationship or is toxic the new best thing? Will we ever see Elena finding her real self again or will they tease it forever and not solve it before she's leaving?
And what about this new witchvampire species? Are they the new Originals? A family more powerful than any other vampire? Sounds familiar?

The only scene I enjoyed was Stefan and his mom. DE was okay with toxic, controlling, consuming and codependent love but a baby is going to sink them? I actually laughed out loud when the 'big bad' heretics were revealed because it is ridiculous! And we know they can still do bad right because Kai struck a great chord with viewers. When Nina leaves she needs to take a bunch of writers with her and get JP and KW to come back. This is the only way TVD can be saved. BTW, if she gets them back she may as well stay because her character would actually be relevant again instead of just arm candy.

I liked the episode 5/5 points, it had alot of tension and made sense to me. Gosh I love Steffie as the Rippaahhh!!!!!!!!!! So it is genetic, lol Love the MAtt/Ty bromance. and Lily SL is getting very interesting. Also found the Enzo SL quite interesting, actually I havn't hated him in the last few episodes as I had before. Caro is getting on my nerves slowly and steady... Cheers!!!

TV Line: "The CW’s The Vampire Diaries this Thursday night drew 1.34 million total viewers and a 0.6 rating, slipping 19 percent and one tenth week-to-week and tying a series low in the demo."
Usually news of a characters soon departure causes an uptick in the viewer numbers not going down. Good job, writers.

And what about this new witchvampire species? Are they the new Originals? A family more powerful than any other vampire? Sounds familiar? The Heretics better get a lot prettier very soon if they are expected to rival the Originals or the Gemini coven. However...as they are outcasts from the Gemini Coven, I guess Kai may have found his people. Which means that maybe Mama Salvatore didn't just fall in with the Heretics by accident?

As soon as I heard this, I immediately thought, "so that's how they'll make Bonnie immortal as well as staying a witch." After all with Elena leaving and Caroline Stefan and Damon all vampires, Bonnie won't stay human unless she figures out how to slow down her aging.

But why does Bonnie want to slow down her aging? I'm just assuming on my end (thinking long term after the show), since everyone but Matt is supernatural (who's staying). Who knows maybe her and Matt will up an elope and stay human until their final days lol
