Since I will watch almost any HBO drama...was curious if anyone else is going to watch The Leftovers?
Just finished the pilot, must say I am intrigued. Didn't know Christopher Eccleston was going to be in it...LOVE him.

awwww it appears I will be all alone in here with my viewing of The Leftovers. *proceeds to talk to self about show* Not so my dear. lol a little slow to the party, but I've watched all the episodes. I came looking for this thread, because I don't think I've watched a stranger series .... I need help! napoli and I have been PMing about it, maybe she'll join us too. I do like the sheriff and his B*tchy daughter. I just can't figure out how Wayne ties into the whole thing.... taking peoples pain and breeding every young oriental girl he can find. The flashback ep they just aired did nothing to help my confusion. What's the big deal with the deer? (put aside the fact the sounds he makes are an Elks not a whitetail) What made Sheriff Kevin's dad go yoyo ?(love Scott Glen's acting) Sheriff Kevin must have freaked when the girl disappeared, literally right out from under him in the motel room. OMG I can only assume Kevin's wife Laurie's baby must have departed too. Why is Kevin's son Tom so bound to Wayne that he would kill for him? As you can see lots of questions and the series isn't answering them. lol

That is the draw of the show for me it is so damn mysterious!! The music in it is haunting and sucks me in every week. And often leave more questions than it answers, and sometimes that is fine by me. Not all of life's mysteries can be solvable, which really is kind of the premise of this show. The departure happened and everyone is effected and wants an answer to what and why but there isn't one and they have to live with that. In incredible screwed up ways for some of them.
I swear each episode leaves me in an existential crisis every single time!!! I mean I love it but at the same time I am WTF did I just watch? I think Justin Theroux is phenomenal in it as Kevin. The last episode was riveting. It was nice to see what their lives were like prior to the event.
Yes the Garvey embryo departed. I also found it interesting that so many people that Laurie interacted with that day were also in the GR. I too am curious about what lead Tommy to Holy Wayne. It appears the next episode might be Wayne's existential crisis. me too, Wayne, me too.

Hey crimmyj, any guess on why Wayne is knocking up all the oriental girls? Or the significance of the deer? Jeeze, the guy making rubber dolls at the convention was creepy. And what's up with the no talking in the RD dressed in white zelots? Your right about Justin Theroux... he's kept me interested just long enough with his exceptional acting, I know I'm in for the duration. LOL

I have no clue wth is happening so I won't be very helpful but I'm just glad knowing I'm not the only one. It's great story telling so far with the ambiguity and terrific characters keeping me interested. What's sad about this past episode was that it seemed to imply that those who were taken were not wanted with the exception of the girl in the circuit science presentations with Jill. Kevin's affair - gone - sort of funny because that makes her the perfect woman from a guy's perspective . Lori's baby was really not a blessing because it was clear she and Kevin weren't happy and Kevin didn't even want a dog can you imagine his reaction to a baby. The woman with the baby screaming in the back and Nora's family were both in a moment of family distress (?). It could've just been a coincidence or it could be the reason they disappeared.

I could buy into your theory about the RD's not being wanted, except for Nora Durst. I had the impression she really loved her kids. I loved your Kevin's affair comment about the perfect woman. lol I think the actual comment is after the sex she turns into a case of beer and two of your best friends. lol Hey, in fairness we're not all in that mind set..... still funny.

Don't get me wrong I believe Kevin still loved his wife just as the overwhelmed mother loved her squealing baby. It was just in that moment there was negative energy toward them. I have no comment about the beer and two best friends. Maybe I was putting my own spin what would be the perfect affair.

Whoa,......the case thing was just a post not my belief...I think when your committed to someone, it's 100%...no time for anything extraneous. Sry if you took that as my outlook on relationships...the web is an imperfect means of communication, but still fun!

Wow. Just wow. This probably has to be one of the most quietly intense shows I've watched. and they always nail it with the music.
I for one love the mysteriousness of the show, to often we have shows that don't respect the audience to think for themselves and just lay it all out for you. There is a lot to emotionally process when watching this show. and Justin Theroux again was riveting this episode.

I swear if I was Kevin I would be afraid to fall asleep. I wonder if Kevin wished for his family back? Thankfully, it's been renewed for s2.

I still don't get his oriental/baby thing tying to the plot. 8-)So did Kevin wish to get his family back or win the dog bet? That was cool when the dog came up to him and his daughter obviously wanting to be friends. ..... good finale! This series has been a pleasant surprise.

Is it just me or did Wayne's death kinda come out of left field? I still don't get his oriental/baby thing tying to the plot. Not entirely out of left field. I mean you knew the feds were cracking down on him with extreme force from the opening episode. So eventually that was going to catch up with him, and it was going to result in his death. The fetish for teenage asian girls, I do believe was just that, his personal peccadillo if you will. His existence stemmed from this desire to absolve someone's guilt and/or grant a wish/give them peace. Maybe Holy Wayne in believing his own "healing power" absolved him from his own guilt, and therefore indulging in his own wishes/desires that maybe he didn't seek out prior to the "Sudden Departure". Which maybe why he so desperately was wanting validation for his "powers" as he was staring down his own mortality. His impregnating the teens could also be an extension of him grasping at immortality. What I love about this show is I don't feel all questions are set up to be answered. This event happened, and just like for the people in the show, for the audience there is no answers of why to that. The story isn't about finding out a mystery but how life goes on, how characters react in the aftermath, what does it mean to live, to love, to grieve. A lot like life, people "disappear" whether it be from from accidents, cancer, suicide, etc...there are no answers as to why. But how we cope, how we live, as individuals is so different. At least that is how I am looking at it. napoli I am totally thinking that Kevin wished for his family back, especially considering the conversation he just had with Matt prior to running into Holy Wayne. Which is what made that ending so poignant. Even though it isn't necessarily a complete reunion in the physical sense. It goes from being hopeless (Nora's letter) to Nora holding on to that baby, representing hope.
