OK, finally finished Roswell and LOVED it! Really clever storytelling, the acting was good (kind of goofy sometimes, like teens would really act), and just the whole setting, story, etc. I want to go alien searching now. The ending was even good. You never know how a series will end when it's cancelled, but I thought Roswell tied up a few loose ends but left it open-ended in a good way. One thing: Tess never seemed likable, so why did Max fall for her at all? Was she using powers? Was it the teenage "My girlfriend slept with someone so I'll sleep with someone?" They tried to show the two growing closer but maybe it didn't work for me b/c I didn't trust Tess at all. Calling out to wednesday, @dman24, shoe20 and anyone else who likes Roswell. Hey@jennifer, glad to hear you liked the series ... as you know it's one of my favs. It was a great character driven series, and the relationships between all six main characters were explored in depth. Of course Liz/Max, but Micheal/Maria was just as hot IMO. I wish they'd done more with Alex/Isobel .... You couldn't help but root for Alex and his character cut too short for me. (damn Tess) I know a lot of viewers didn't like the ending, but I can't think of another series that did a better job on short cancellation notice...... Welcome to the club NO ONE trusted Tess. lol She was necessary form maximum angst and S3 revolved around Max being responsible, and taking care of his son. Still I wanted to gouge her eyes out. Max was drawn to Tess, (moth to a flame, stuff) because of his residual clone memories about their previous marriage. He seemed powerless to resist their first kiss in the rain, outside the diner. . Hey, she got me yelling at the screen more than once. I don't think Liz got called out hard enough for her fake sex with Kyle. That scene you could really feel Max's pain when he saw them in bed. I know her heart was in the right place, but what a gut ripper. I'll quit with one of my favorite gifs. Pretty much how the series left me feeling.

wednesday, I'll take a shot at your question There is no doubt that question would have come up if the series had continued. Once Max figured out Liz had faked it (jeep scene at the diner) there is no way he wouldn't have wanted to know why, and I think Liz would have wanted to explain, because she knew how much it hurt him. (hey, it hurt her too) Yea, it was a plot hole for me too. Really glad the series I watch now (TVD) don't have any of those.

jennifer I'm glad you liked the show! It is one of my favorites that I watch every summer. Kinda like reuniting with an old friend! I think they did a pretty good job with the finale too. Everyone finally got their happy ending which some couples don't always get. Don't get me started with Tess. I despised her the minute she opened her mouth, manipulative little thing. I despise her character more than any other on a show and that's saying something considering the amount of shows I've watched over the years!! She was messing with Max's mind when she first came on which is when my hatred for her began and it never went away. They tried really hard to make her likeable in the 2nd season because there was so much backlash against her from the fans. The writers were trying to make her a more sympathetic character by having her living with Kyle and the Sheriff. I think people more or less tolerated her. Max was on the rebound from Liz. Which brings up a question maybe some of you can help answer. The only reason Liz ever broke up with Max and made him believe that she slept with Kyle in the first place was because future Max told her to. Do you think she ever told Max the truth about that? They had to break up because the world was going to end if they stayed together, did that mean only at that time because they got back together later. What was the point of all of that! He had to hook up with Tess and have a baby? That always frustrated me!! I agree with dman though he hooked up with her because she was the next best thing. I still think it was a cop out him telling Liz he was with her because he was curious what it was like to be with someone like him because there's no way he'd ever have been with Tess if Liz hadn't have rejected him unless Tess was trying to mess with his mind. Was I the only one that wanted Kyle and Isabel to end up together. I didn't like Kyle in the first season because he was like a crazy stalker over Liz, but he became one of my favorite characters in the last 2 seasons. Liz and Maria's friendships is one of my favorites of all time! That's a great Summer tradition wednesday! I started to re-watch again and decided no, I liked it too much to overanalyze, which is what my brain does. So I'll save it for next Summer. I agree with what you said about Liz/Maria (very sweet and real) and Tess (b***). Kyle & his Dad both grew on me and became my favorite characters in the end. They sacrificed so much, and it was a good counterbalance to have Kyle show his frustration about the aliens sometimes. Kyle becoming a Buddhist was perfect. It was funny at times but gave the character depth. That reminds me - hated Alex getting killed!!!! It was a clever story in the end, but ugh. Tess again! It's true that having her move in with the Valenti's made her a little less obnoxious, but she still came off as manipulative. I was so frustrated that they considered her family, had feelings for her, and she just used them. About Liz breaking up with Max, I kept thinking she would tell him about future Max, that Max would ask why she pretended to sleep with Kyle. That bothered me a little, that it was left hanging, because it was a big deal and a secret between them. Although you can justify by saying future Max is Max so it's all good! Liz promised him she'd never tell anyone, even present Max. Yes, I thought the point of it all was for Max & Tess to have the baby and return to Kvar. I guess the future Max we saw never existed once all the choices were made. Anyway, very good show.

Nice to have you back Jennifer. Well, the reason Max "fell" for Tess is because she was pretty (don't underestimate the allure of a beautiful woman), he was heartbroken from his breakup with Liz, and he wanted to know what it was like to be with someone like him. (He himself said that.) Plus she WAS his wife, so there's that. I think he only truly loved Liz, but because he couldn't be with her he chose the next best available option. It's as simple as that. Hi @dman24 - thanks! I forgot Max said that, good point. I agree the wife thing is big, esp. since Tess was helping him retrieve memories and feelings right before they slept together. I suppose it's hard for me to believe he loved her in that former life, but his memories prove he did. Maybe she wasn't so snake-like in her previous life, that it was Nasedo's upbringing influencing her. About being pretty...I suppose it didn't hurt, lol.

You mentioned that Max didn't know Liz faked sex with Kyle. When Max asked, and said he'd never ask again, Liz nodded or said yes - can't remember. I would swear there's another scene near the end though, when Max asked again and Liz shook her head 'no' or told him the truth. No?? I remember thinking, "Max, you said you wouldn't ask again!" Thanks for the rec. btw. I think you're right about the clone memories fueling Max and Tess sleeping together. I hope she was a better person in her previous life! I didn't get drawn into the shipping much and liked it that way (except for Tess/Max grrr). The whole issue of finding Home, and what does home really mean, and who makes up our home, overshadowed the rest. The couples were a natural part of answering those questions. It didn't feel forced like some shipping does.

Hmm... looks like I was the only one that didn't hate Tess. I guess it didn't hurt that she was played by Emilie de Ravin who was absolutely gorgeous, especially during that second season! So there's that! lol Seriously though, I don't general hate characters on shows. I might not like some of them (intensely even), but I rarely ever hate them. I know they're just characters, not flesh and blood human beings, so their behaviors shouldn't be taken that seriously. I was always more interested in their motivations (good vs. evil) than the end results of their actions. Cause if their motivations came from a good place but they ended up doing something bad, I was less likely to criticize them. That was the difference for me. But as with everything, they were always exceptions. Definitely for sure.

jennifer, I wasn't inferring Max never knew the Liz/Kyle thing was fake. She did tell him in the jeep scene at the diner. (next to last ep, I think)... She didn't however tell him why. Your smart not watching it again so soon ... like wednesday, I do it again in the summer, and it's just long enough to see something new and reclaim old feels. Again, glad you liked it.

OK, i get it now. I mis-read your comment as saying IF Max knew it was fake, then he'd do what you said.....which I absolutely agree with. Max would definitely ask Liz why she faked the sex, and probably why she lied about it the first time he asked. Yeah, Liz got lucky on that one!

jennifer It can be addictive and you do want to overanalyze it especially if it's the first time watching it! I did! I think I watched it twice at the beginning of the summer actually because I'd missed it so much plus I couldn't decide on what else I wanted to watch! Even though Liz had promised future Max she'd never tell anyone the truth I would've loved to have seen that conversation between her and present day Max. When they were talking in the jeep and he said to her "You never slept with Kyle did you" and she shook her head no I would've demanded to know why she lied and made me think that if I was Max! That was the reason they broke up and what got them all into that mess in the first place!! That scene with the two of them in the jeep was just gut wrenching! Max kissing her and then watching her go into the cafe and crying! Kills me every time! The other one is when he gives his son away and she tells him she'll always be there and he hugs her crying! That show put me through the emotional wringer! Michael and Maria also had some heartbreaking moments as well. When Michael came to her window in the rain and got into bed with her crying is one of them! Isabel crying over Alex's death and seeing him at the cemetery. Liz trying to figure it out crying in the cafe looking at all their pics together of Alex after he was murdered. Yep! This show made me an emotional basketcase! Kyle and his dad were great. I felt bad for them when they realized that Tess had used them and betrayed them too. I loved when Tess did come back with the baby and Liz saw her and threw her across the room "Get Up B****!" and then threatens to kill her! Liz was awesome when she got her powers. Tess was semi redeemed when she sacrificed herself like that, but I still didn't like her. I wish the sheriff had left town with them because he was going to be all alone with the kids gone out of town. They were his only family. I wish we could've gotten like a flashforward of 5 to 10 years to see how they were doing. That would've been really cool. What do y'all think they would've been up too? I loved this show too. Max and Liz were the essence of soulmates.
I understand each couple has to have a little angst in there lives and bringing in Tess did that but to have Max and Tess sleep together and then have her pregnant went a little too far for me. I hated that part.
wednesday you were wondering what Max and Liz would've been up to after they left Roswell, well there is a couple of books that follow the gang right after they left Roswell. The producers were hoping for a S4 but it didn't happen so this writer, Kevin Ryan, wrote, I believe, a couple of books following the lives of the gang where the show left of at the end of S3. The first book is called 'Roswell: A New Beginning' and the second one is called 'Nightscape'. I don't know if he wrote anymore after that. Some say the books due the series justice some say they don't. I haven't read them yet because I just found out about them and they are expensive to buy from Canada. Amazon wants $50 for 1 paperback. That is crazy. I will get them eventually.

Tks for the tip on the books, stelena4ever. They would be interesting to read, but in my mind I have them in a happy place. One of the few series that ended well.

I know this will sound crazy but I picture Max and Liz with 3 kids, 2 human kids and 1 half alien kid who loves to get into trouble all the time.

You're right, but the guy was leaving for his PLANET(!), so discussing the intricacies of why she cheated wasn't exactly a priority on his mind. All of this is so funny if you really think about it.

I like your way of thinking! It's funny because this was at the reunion and they were asked could there ever be a Roswell movie and what could they see happening for their characters. I like what the creator had to say!
