Day 7. What made you the happiest in season 5 ?
Damon's death. His character became way too annoying for me in Season 5, and consequently Delena became too hard to watch. Forget the fun of push and pull, if Damon is going to redeem himself, he needs to do it without Elena, and dying to save his brother was a good start. I anticipated this character death and theorized possible scenarios from the moment I saw a video interview in which Ian Somerhalder leaked that Damon dies in the season finale. It was the only way to counteract the harm that this character had done, or the harm that was done to the character. Any way you cut it, Damon was headed for a character death and Elena needed a wake-up call- she has to learn to live without Damon, and she'll never grow as a character as long as she's constantly defined by her relationship to Damon.
I think the problems that led to Damon's death came from the writers struggling to make Delena work so that shippers would be happy. Unfortunately, this only made shippers in general more demanding and even hostile. I don't recall Damon and Elena actually being a couple even in the books. If they loved each other, or cared about each other, I don't believe it was L.J. Smith's intention for these characters to end up together, and I don't think the TVD writers were able to pull it off without the story turning into yet another reason why the two characters shouldn't be romantically involved. Hopefully, Damon's death will give us a season-long respite from Delena madness and open the door to new stories for both of them.

Day 6 - most shocking parts of s6. 1) hands down killing off Damon..not because it wasn't teased prior to the finale, but because they actually went through with it. I'm mostly shocked because of the huge impact it'll have on s6, and I'm not 199% sure the impact will be for the better. Bold move. 2) I'll copy jennifer response, Damon was tortured in Augustine for 5 years, how much that experience must have shaped the character he is today 3)..just how badly the writers handled certain storylines. What's so shocking is the storylines I was most excited about couldn't have been more disappointing. I didn't know tvd could let me down so much, they always came through for me in the past. My top 3: -Tessa finding Stefan in the safe just so she can fry his brain, and not Damon or Elena. That could have been a fantastic reunion moment filled with huge emotion (positive and negative) and impact for the rest of the season for our top characters. instead, it was just an intro to a storyline and mythology that I didn't much care for. It also set up too negative of a tone for the rest of the season...that as much as we want are characters to be the big heroes, quite often they let us down. -Damon taking such a bold move by telling Enzo to kill Jeremy. Fine, bring Damon's character down to bring him back up again, I get that. And i get this is a vamp show, not everything is always nice. But don't kill off one of the most promising ships for me-bromance between damon and Jeremy. And it wasnt even followed up on-if it was used as one of the ways to kill off delena, it didnt really work...Elena never even found out about it, and if she did, she didn't seem to care much. Both are out of this world unbelievable. -delena-like it or not they are an important part of tvd and a fan favorite. When they were finally explored as a real couple, all that was brought out was the bad parts and none of the positives-to the point where even the romantic stuff (was there anything nice and romantic) seemed cheap and out of place. Or should I say bad point, singular-at least if they wanted to only bring out the bad, bring out more than just 1 aspect over and over again...because the way they did it, delena was not only sad, it was also boring and an eye roller. I didn't think they would kill off Damon ...YET!!! I sometimes suspect they do follow the books as a rough skeleton. Since a few years I have been predicting that Damon will die in the series finale, but not the season 5 finale. Now being a modest humble middle of the roader as shoe20 already put it, even I admit that I was tearful over his death, but having pulled the Sidney Carton, saving his friend Liz Forbes (because he could have made it out if it hadn't been for this), getting rid of all the travelers etc etc) it gave him a full redemption arc within a few episodes. It meant alot to me that he saved Liz Forbes. But as I very much am in love with Jeremy and Bonnie as a couple his death was overshadowed for me by the seperation of this young couple. Personally I don't see much of bromance between Jer and Damon, Damon did it over and over again. There was a couple of times when he tretaed Jer really badly, not only killing him I am talking about. This season he topped it, the consequence was a serious one this time --> Jer moved out. What irritates the hell out of me is that Elena didn't get a thing, she hadn't a clue or didn't care or the writers forgot to take it up. They (the EP) said in the very beginning that Damon and Elena and Stefan and Elena are a triangle that the story is based on. The problem is either the writing was bad or the acting was miserable. Up til that moment somewhere in season 4 Damon and Elena HAD chemistry, but what followed was a big constipation. I have to rewatch to write sth about AUGUSTINE because at that time there were a few episodes that I didn't really dig. Last not least "that as much as we want are characters to be the big heroes, quite often they let us down"
I really like this statement, it is quite an epiphany I guess I've always seen potential in Damon and jer getting closer-not now obviously. I haven't forgotten 2.01, but since then Damon has redeemed himself by saving his life several times and even gotten closer to Jeremy over time, I'm guessing in part because they were living together. I think in some ways Jeremy even forgave him. I will never forget what Damon did, but I'm trying to give, at least a little. Now I will be extremely upset if jer ever comes to Damon again for help.

Day 7. What made you the happiest in season 5 ?
The fact that Bonnie was corporated again and that she and Jer got to spend the time together, which Bon described as a present/gift in her last words to him. Matt making out with Bex made me freezegrin like an idiot. That Caro and Ty hugged when he came back from the Other Side. That Ty came back to Mystic Falls after his crossover to NO. That Katharina was killed off after her SL got very very cheap and crappy. Loved it that Nadia exited as well. I simply applauded with a mental standing ovation when Caro snapped Luke's neck. It made me very happy that Damon saved Sheriff Liz. Oh what a great list, I so agree with most of what you said-ESP bex saving Matt that was awesome! But I wish there was more to the scene, seemed too short. I always loved those 2 together!

Day 6.What were the most shocking things for you in season 5
I guess the thing that shocked me the most would have to be the writing. I thought S4 was bad but certain storylines in S5 were really bad. The storylines I was most excited about, like the doppelganger storyline and the Silas & Amara love story, all were disappointing.
I feel the problem is CD. Since she took over the reigns from JP she has brought this show down and the ratings have proved that.

Day 8. What made you the angriest?
I was super pissed when Nadia locked Matt in a box and buried him. In that context in fact everything she and Katharina did were just plain annoying and I just kept hoping they'd be killed off asap. Dr Wes made me almost boil over every time the creep had screentime. he was so revolting and annoying. Jeremy abducted by Damon and Enzo and suffocated with a plastic bag!!!! Damon going off the rails after Elena quit on him....GROW UP MAN!!! (luckily he delivered) Elena was annoying, just plain annoying. The way she treated Stefan, her brother and her friends. AND WHAT STUNT DID ENZO PULL First he committed suicide via Steffie and then he whined all the time that he wanted to come back!!! That was infuriating. That Stefan had to be honest and had his heart snatched by Julian as a consequence. That I didn't often understand what was going on and that for seven episodes I was so bored that I didn't even bother to rewatch. Generally I rewatch an episode 3-5 times!!!

deb thinking about all those episodes. Until season 5 simply every episode just blew me away. Rewatching season 3 right now and don't ask me how many times I have rewatched...but still sitting huddled in my rug and so often jaw dropped. I think I will just have to wait til the DVD is released and rewatch season 5 and let things settle I still can't re-watch prior seasons because they are SO GOOD and then I get SO ANGRY that I don't feel the same way about the show anymore. I caught a bit of s3 during the Mikaelson's ball and even with the DE scenes I got goosebumps from awe watching it. Now I have no reaction. Stefan died - didn't care; Damon died - didn't celebrate; Lexi found peace - meh, just means I won't get to see her again.

I had a bad hangdown in the 2nd/3rd of the season, but it is awesome to watch season 1-3 over and over, even season 4 was good imho, not as good as 1-3, but this season has been a mess. But nevertheless I want to see how everything ends so I will watch until the bitter end. DE definitely had chemistry but it was all screwed up by bad writing or bad acting Idk... so I just reflected about series and this gives me hope: Buffy weakest season 4 Downton Abbey weakest season 4 The O.C. weakest season 4 Veronica Mars always a good season bec only 3 seasons in total. So I guess the more seasons a series has, the more risk it has of becoming watery. I really hope that TVD pulls through next season with good SL that make sense and joy to watch and rewatch. Personally I think TVD should end with season 6 and an epic conclusion

Yeah pretty much of all this. Or how there was absolutely zero consequences for many characters actions that were borderline idiotic. Even if I love my guy who happens to be a sociopathic serial killer, if he ever lied to me about killing people while he was off taking a trip one weekend, I'm going to be more than just slightly irritated for 3 seconds then move on. Trust is a big deal, in any twisted psychopathic relationship. I'm going to turn my rewatch of Season 5 to a drinking game just to get through it. What can I say, I'm a masochist.

The other fact is since TO started I concentrated on that series as well, and since it was far better than TVD, TVD didn't have that big of an impact on me. I don't know, that twisted toxic relationship isn't so unrealistic is you have a closer look at it, in reality I have seen quite a few twisted relationships, ON/OFFs, codependance etc etc. Villains loved by women isn't that unusual and why men love b*** isn't that offtopic either. Alone in history you can see it...it is fascinating rather, it is usually tied to power. Niw what power does a 24/7 Bourbon drinking vampire have, you know Count Dracula would turn in his grave if he had one.

Day 7. What made you the happiest in season 5
Not much made me happy in S5. I enjoyed Silas. I wish they didn't kill him off so quickly and I loved episode 18. It was directed by Paul and I loved the Stefan & Elena visions.

Day 7 happiest: defan moment at the Salvatore mansion. The only way defan can work things out is by talking past hatred, it's the only way they can move on and find redemption. and for me, what was said there was a huge step for the better. Nothing is more important than the love of family. When the word love was used, I couldn't help but smile.
Ok, Alaric showing up back in the living, bittersweet - but if Damon didn't die would have been a very close second.
