Thanks for starting the thread moshe12. I'm a bit of a disgruntled fan after the end of S3 tbh. I watched S4 though, mostly to see how Lady Mary would cope. The production value, costuming, sets, etc. are fantastic! When it becomes too much of a soap opera for me, I focus on the historical relevance and the business side of vast land holdings.

For anyone who loves British period drama I also recommend highly the series Berkeley Square 1998 and Parade's End. Berkely Square is a warm hearted family drama set in turn of the century London, where three young girls come together as nannies and grow to be friends. This BBC drama from 1998 strred Clare Wilkie, Victoria Smurfit, Tabitha Wady, Sean Murray, Hermione Norris, Ruth Sheen, Rosemary Leach, William Scott-Mason, Etela Pardo, Jason O'Mara and Kate Williams. Here is a selection of videos with Mattie, Hannah and Lydia Parade's End is a miniseries starring Benedict Cumberbatch who plays the last gentleman. Catch Parade's End, the new HBO 5-Part Miniseries event, with Parts 1 & 2 beginning on Tuesday, February 26th at 9PM on HBO. Find more : www.hbo.com/#/parades-endFrom the reliable comforts of Edwardian England to the chaos and destruction of the First World War, the early 20th century was a defining era in history, a time of unprecedented change, when old certainties were being torn down. The long golden afternoons of the pre-war years would be shattered by the most destructive war the world had ever known, and countless lives would be changed forever. Set against this backdrop of impending catastrophe is the story of English aristocrat Christopher Tietjens, trapped in a marriage to an unfaithful wife, and caught between his commitment to the values of Toryism and his unspoken love for a fearless young suffragette. Spanning the glittering, shallow world of London high society, the trench-scarred battlefields of France, and the breathtaking English countryside,

and of course speaking of period drama...I grew up with this series...the mother of all period drama series UPSTAIRS DOWNSTAIRS
it was showing the life of the wealthy aristocratic family Bellamy and their domestics. UPSTAIRS, DOWNSTAIRS is the most successful series of all times, watched by over a billion viewers in 70 countries.
In 2011 and 2012 there had been a remake, but it was not that big of a success so it was cancelled. Imho it wasn't that bad, but it couldn't compete with the original series and a bit superficial.
This vid makes me all teary eyed and sentimental, because many many of the cast have died already. It was nice to see them reunited.

THE NEW SERIES 2010/2011
plays 6 ys after the Original story closed, Rose one of the servants returns to 165 Eaton place. Pre WWII era and during WWII.
One of the most loved television series of all time is brought back to life with a fresh cast and sumptuous production values. It's 1936, and six years since parlormaid Rose left 165 Eaton Place, fate brings her back, as housekeeper to its new owners: Sir Hallam and his wife Lady Agnes, and Maud, Lady Holland, his mother. Rose soon finds she has her work cut out as she recruits a new 'downstairs' family to help run the elegance and finery of the 'upstairs' world. Both upstairs and downstairs, it soon becomes apparent there lies a labyrinth of secrets, lies and scandal. Set against the historical backdrop of a Britain with a new King, with sexual, social and political tensions, this new series provides an evolving take on the master-servant relationship.

Season 4 was excellent, but even so, it was weaker than se 1-3 imo. I in any case felt the absence of Matthew in a painful way, really miss him. But I still have the Dowager Duchess I loved the Christmas special. Tbh Lady Mary isn't really my favourite in the series. I just don't like her. Snotty cow. They all are, but there is sth about Mary that makes me want to punch her in the face about 10x per every episode. Who would you like to see her with? Evelyn Napier, Lord Gillingham or Charles Blake? And do you think Mr Bates killed Mr Green?

jennifer, I'm beginning to think we have similar viewing tastes. lol moshe12, I like the Miss Fishers murder mysteries, but I think after you jogged my memory about Upstairs, Downstairs, I'm going to go there first.... I watched only a few of them but liked what I saw. I'm really enjoying "Reign" ... do you watch it? Have fun cooking and what times dinner.....love dead-bird parm. =) I'm a bit of a cook myself, maybe we need a recipes thread. lol Today's my day to catch up on the great vids you posted... things seem to be settling down with the refugees, were going to end up with some great contrubuters to the site. Yea, I saw you gifs....a rarity, right?

Yea, I saw you gifs....a rarity, right? Only my Elijah avatar...although he does have lost some of his mystique in TO I regret to admit at least for me. Glad you like the Miss Fisher mysteries Upstairs Downstairs (the original) had 5 seasons; the last produced series had 2 seasons. Now about the historical series: with them I do have high standards, I can tolerate a few botching up history facts like they did in the Tudors, BUT what I saw in Reign totally turned me off in the promos. I have been a Tudor fan since I saw Young Bess at a very early age and Mary Queen of Scots (with Vanessa Redgrave and Glenda Jackson) is my measuring pole...I collect all kind of Tudor movies and watch the documentaries over at youtube. What I will soon watch is BBCs The White Queen (story of the War of the Roses). I like the series The Borgias with Jeremy Irons. I am already almost done with dinner and taking my dog out now. After that I will do my own hero hair and eat and watch season 3 of TVD. So what cuisine do you like. I am a great fan of Jamie Oliver but I do also appreciate Gordon Ramsay meanwhile. I like Italian and Thai food and of course Indian food. Stefan did a great job inspiring me to do that chicken parmigiana dish. A vampire that can cook...lovely When I was a kid I used to read the Famous five and was always envious of the loads of food they got in their holidays at the seaside, especially their picnic baskets ...Enid Blytons kid books also very inspiring for eaters hehehe - chuckle

Jeremy Irons is pretty much great with anything he does! I agree "Regin" has taken liberties, but I'm more lenient than you. =) I even enjoy GoT, would that be period fantasy? My favorite cuisine is oriental (any) Japanese is a little too blan, I more of a spicy guy....been making my own Kim Chee for 30 yrs. Great shout out to Stefan in the Markos vision. He was just cooking away. lol Enjoy Dinner!!

He has too much to lose with Anna to face another stint in prison. At least that's what I hope. Truthfully I don't remember Mary's suitors very well now. I don't believe the one who broke his engagement to another woman will be the one. More likely it's the one who helped her save the pigs. I'd like to see her choose the nice sidekick guy, but he's not quite Lady Mary's snooty style, is he. .

I watched a BBC series about food throughout the ages, it is very funny and quite interesting, it is called Supersizers Go and Supersizers Eat!!!!!!!!!!!!! They have Ancient Rome, Middle Ages, Tudor Age, French Revolution, Restoration, Regency etc etc .......... before a week of eating and eating and eating they have their blood checked and after one week over overindulging, it is quite hilarious and informative. I can tell you. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Supersizers... Here is the Edwardian Supersizer ...

He has a secret title and is Duke of something (that was secret all the time wasn't it?) and loads of money. So that made her rethink her position regarding him, bec at first she thought he was a poor state employee.

I read in another of your posts that Lord Willoughby is the childhood friend, so he was the nice sidekick I was thinking about. That leaves Napier. OK, I have them straightened out again!
