Interview: Daniel Gillies On New Orleans & Juggling Two Shows from Comic Con
"I think it's going to be the balancing act between navigating his brother away from his own sort of malevolent tendencies, and trying to design a strategy for taking back for their kingdom," he told a table with several journalists from various outlets; however, he was unable to tell us specifics. "I actually don't know. These things are written as we go along; I don't know what his strategy's going to be. I just know that he's probably going to put his family first. That's all I know." The child of Klaus and Hayley - revealed in the series pilot - might be one of those things that also will guide the story and Elijah's approach to family. "If you have the seed of possibly the most indestructible person on the planet, and you now have this child and it happens to be his relative, naturally, he's going to use that as his bedrock for this new kingdom," Gillies said. "It's also going to be [Elijah's] way to probably nurture and gently assuage out any of Klaus's malevolent tendencies - to seduce him back towards a path where they could have some degree of power within New Orleans."
Gillies landed the Originals job while also doing another series -- CTV's Saving Hope up in Canada, which also stars Smallville's Erica Durance. For "two brutal months" Gillies will be doing both shows without time off, and Gillies admits anxiety, but an enthusiasm to see what happens. Ultimately, he knows doing both shows will be worth it. "I'm young. I have a baby on the way, so it's a good thing for me to be earning money," he said, also confirming that this double-duty will not affect the number of Originals episodes he appears in. "So far, I'm in the first few episodes... as many as they've written, I'm in 'em all," he confirmed. The first episode following the pilot, in particular, is very Elijah-heavy. "It's happening at the same time as the pilot's happening, but you're seeing it from Elijah's perspective. So, Elijah will be interacting with a bunch of characters, and then you'll see him turn a corner, and suddenly we're in a scene from the pilot. You're realizing the behind the scenes [moments] that he had while the pilot was transpiring. It's really neat," he enthused.
Continuing the theme of double duty, the series may also have to address Elijah's feelings for Katherine (the Elena lookalike played by The Vampire Diaries' Nina Dobrev), which Gillies does not seem to see as over. "I don't want it to be," Gillies confirmed. "And now that she's human, she's all the more sexy. Elijah loves humanity. He's in love with humanity. I made that decision for him a long time ago, and I always try and squeeze it into the performances. I love him loving human beings. I think it's one of the most important comments in the show, and I think the more humble she becomes, the more madly in love with her he will fall," he said.
The mysterious New Orleans plays a good backdrop for The Originals, which Gillies describes as "sort of Games Of Thrones-y, but with this Louisiana vampire world," and he points out that things there will be different from what we've seen in The Vampire Diaries. "There's more of an objective. To me, Mystic Falls was more about survival, but I feel like in New Orleans, it's more about retaking this empire," he said. And, although Gillies once touted New York as a good place for a TVD spin-off, Gillies is very happy with the new locale, which promises "lots of intrigue in terms of where you can take the characters." The battle for New Orleans begins in October.

CASTING SCOOP:
Sebastian Roche will reprise his "Vampire Diaries" role as Mikael, the patriarch of the Original family, on "The Originals," EW reports. The character, first introduced in Season 3 of "The Vampire Diaries," will appear in an episode early in the season. Since Klaus (Joseph Morgan) killed Mikael in "TVD" Season 3 episode 9, we assume that Roche will be portraying Mikael in flashbacks. In other "The Originals" casting news, Roche's fellow "Supernatural" alum Todd Stashwick is also set to recur in the new CW series (fans of "Supernatural" remember Stashwick's turn as a Dracula-impersonating shapeshifter during Season 4′s "Monster Movie"). Stashwick will play the role of Father Kieran, first appearing in episode 4. "Kieran is a tortured priest with a dark past," executive producer Julie Plec says. "Once a powerful and pragmatic diplomat between the humans and the various supernatural factions in New Orleans, he returns home looking for answers about a personal tragedy but finds a very different landscape than when he left."

CASTING SCOOP: 'Chicago Fire's' Alexandra Metz in pivotal, magical roleAlexandra Metz will play Katie, a beautiful and mysterious witch with a hidden agenda. Her actions will have shocking ramifications for the supernatural community of New Orleans ... and we're guessing current King of New Orleans, vampire Marcel (Charles Michael Davis), won't like that one bit. Especially since he thinks he has all the witches under his control.

“We’re going to unfold a lot of the story over the first season, starting almost immediately with the second episode, where we’re going to show some flashbacks of the first time Klaus and Marcel met, when Marcel was maybe a 10-year-old boy. We’re going to slowly but surely … see how this friendship was born, what it meant to Klaus, how it ended, and why them coming back together is fraught with so many different emotions … jealousy and love and loyalty and betrayal … we dive right in.” Wait. Klaus met Marcel when the king of New Orleans was a little boy?! Oh man. We can’t wait to learn more.”
Plec hinted at some possible series crossovers too, saying, “We have plans for Matt, for Rebekah, for Caroline, for Klaus … in a perfect world, even Katherine and Elijah, to revisit those pairings. We haven’t gotten to that section of the storybreak yet to know if they fit with the other.” Please, please, please! We’d love to see more of all those couples. Just imagine the fangs and fur flying between Caroline and Hayley if the blond bombshell showed up in New Orleans.
Trouble may be on the horizon for Hayley (played by Phoebe Tonkin) on Season 1 of the Vampire Diaries spin-off The Originals.
According to TV Guide, executive producer Julie Plec, Hayley might just be on the bad side of Klaus(Joseph Morgan) after their hybrid baby is born. You may remember a drunken rendezvous between the two back in Season 4 of The Vampire Diaries? Welp, they’re just going to get a super strong baby as proof of their affair, and it doesn’t exactly put Hayley in a good position with the devilish dad.
“One of the first things Rebekah (Claire Holt) says to Hayley is that Klaus is the kind of guy who puts his family members in a box, so probably when you give birth you’ll end up in one of your own,” Julie teases. Well, Rebekah does have a point — and she would definitely know, given just how many times she’s been stashed away in a box. Ahh, vampire angst at its best.
But lucky enough for Hayley, her witch pal Sophie (Daniella Pineda) might have a few tricks up her sleeve to keep the werewolf safe for a little while.

The Originals’ Claire Holt Talks Matt/Rebekah & Reuniting With Phoebe Tonkin
"I think that love affair is sadly coming to an end," she confirms. "I can't imagine they're going to do long distance well. So, they had fun over the summer... it was a mutually beneficial, sweet relationship but it's come to a natural end." Could Rebekah be looking for someone new after The Originals begins? "There's a lot of cuties around New Orleans, and it's going to have to be someone who she's not related to! Which doesn't leave many options right now, so I don't know. I'll let you put two and two together," she hints, making us think it might be Marcel (Charles Michael Davis) who ultimately gets Rebekah's attention. "Who knows? I'd imagine maybe they could be, at some point," Claire says when asked about that possibility.
The Originals also finally reunites Holt with her H2O: Just Add Water co-star Phoebe Tonkin, who plays "Hayley" on the new series. "It's so great to work with Phoebe again," Holt says. "We haven't filmed anything yet, but just being around each other on a set brings back so many memories. I think Rebekah's going to be really protective of Hayley, and she's looking out for her. Hayley doesn't have any family, so it's going to be interesting to see Rebakah put her pride aside a little and be part of the team. It's going to be nice and fun, I think. The characters will have a little spark there."
The promise of a family -- especially with Hayley's child coming into play -- might be enough for Rebekah to get over that whole "wanting to be human" desire. "You know what? As Elijah said to her, 'I'm offering you what you've always wanted. You've always wanted a family.' So I think she's really going to love that child, and treat it like it were her own, and she's going to have fun playing dress-ups, I think, with the little cute wolf baby," Holt speculates.
One thing is for certain -- fans should not place any bets on which side Rebekah will take in the Klaus vs. Marcel war. "Who knows? Your guess is as good as mine. [Klaus has] betrayed her a number of times, so she may cross over to the dark side," Holt hints.
The Originals premieres Thursday, October 3 on The CW before moving to Tuesdays on October 8.

“There’s a history with Marcel. A passionate, sort of forbidden love history. It’s very intense with them. Whenever they’re in the same room it feels like electricity. So when I’m working with Charles, it’s almost like we have to hold ourselves together.” (I think you would find this interesting Slash)

Odd. There isn't a smiley/emoticon in the world to express my feelings over this. Something expressing contempt, rage, sadness and sheer disgust.
So...what was the point in getting her and Matt squared away? Whoever is in charge of relationships for this show needs to be dragged out into the streets and beaten. She goes from Stefan, to Damon or was it Matt next?, to Matt/Damon (depending on the previous), lingers a bit, then back to Stefan then back to Matt. Now, Marcel is in this oddly taken picture? Nothing on this show, as far as love/relationships seems to last. In fact, the sad thing is, I think the Caroline/Tyler one is the longest. Everyone else is rocky as hell (Stefan, Damon, Elena; Jeremy, Anna, Bonnie) or the solid ones don't last cause someone has to die (Alaric, Jenna, Meredith; Damon, Rose).

Slash the way it made it seem was like they had an old relationship or something. They made it pretty clear that Matt and bekah were a summer fling so I want expecting more then that.and you right forwood have been the most solid relationship out of all

What I'm trying to say is I'm tired of the 'flings' in this show, mainly happening with Damon and Bekah. Damon right now has some footing with Elena but he's been over the place too (Rose, Andie, almost Matt's mom, Isobel, Bekah, Sage, Lexi, etc.) and I've mentioned Bekah's past just above. They're Vampires so some history is expected but the way the show rolls them out is just at a breakneck pace. It's asinine of me to expect something solid with this show though in that department. Couples break up at the first sign of problems and unrealistically don't even try to work through them (Bonnie & Jeremy come to mind over the whole Ghost thing).
And I was oblivious to Matt & Bekah being a 'fling', outside of the issue that they would be on different shows at times. In the back of my mind, I assumed she'd find someone on TO though, just not Marcel.

Well maybe it won't be Marcel. Maybe he will just be an old flame who she has alot of sexual tension with. I think they want to do this to have us question will bekah be on klaus side or Marcels.

I know she hates ol' Nik right now but come on. She's gonna be an aunt. If she's acting up, she won't get to hold her niece/nephew so I think she'll tread lightly. Might take jabs here and there and lightly undermine Nik but I don't expect anything big out of the fam towards Nik while in NO since he's supposed to be on the up and up with the good deeds/getting things straight.
Plus, it's Nik; he can't be killed. If she does anything, it's for...and giggles.

Matt actually annoyed me all season until he came around. Blowing off Bekah as much as he did, I wanted to have 'words' with him. Yeah, she almost killed you in her attempt to get at Elena, which did result in her death, but things worked out. You got that nice truck out of it that *YOU TOOK* you ass clown.
I just want Bekah to be happy and to not be used like everyone has done so far. If Marcel can do that present day or I see as much in his past history with Bekah while not making me hate him in whatever goes on between him & Klaus, then I'm on board. Simple enough.
