What did you Like?Stefan and Damon car crash with both boys sprawled on the road with the car crumpled/destroyed and burning and then Stefan saying 'I got it, you're the fun brother.'
Damon stopping Stefan from killing the waitress.
'Hey Elena, as frustrating as it is for me not to have any memories I really don't think that recreating the time we met is magically going to bring it all back.' It's more than a little arrogant for Elena to believe that memories of her are the key to Stefan's memory. We all know that Elena is the love of Stefan's life but Elena doesn't have to rub it in especially since she chose to be with his brother.
Elena confirming that Stefan is the best and all the other Elena confirmations this episode such as:
Elena: I surround myself with amazing people who helped me through it, like you, you're one of those people.
Stefan: Me ripping people''s heads off was a bit of a turn off.
Elena: Actually no. You were the most compassionate person I'd ever met. You hated the idea of hurting anyone. The guilt would overwhelm you. You were in control.
Stefan: So I bored you to death
Elena: No Stefan, it wasn't you it was me. Becoming a vampire changed me.
Stefan: If I was there both times why didn't I save you both times?
Elena: Because the second time you saved my best friend Matt because I asked you to.
Stefan: Oh, I got it, I'm an idiot.
Elena: No, you were the perfect boyfriend. You valued what I wanted even if it wasn't what you agreed with.
Stefan burning his diaries was a nice parallel to Elena burning the house down and destroying her own journals in the process but it was sad because of the sheer volumes. Hopefully he only burned the ripper years and that Damon didn't give them all to him.
What you did not like?Bonnie's funeral was maddening. It's been 5 months since the viewers have known that Bonnie is dead. The funeral felt forced and insincere. Bonnie wasn't even at her own father's funeral and that didn't raise any red flags with her supposed caring friends? Matt sent her 300 emails and he didn't find it odd that she's only answered 2? Am I really supposed to give a crap about Elena, Caroline and Matt's grief? Why would Damon say that everything in Elena's life would go to crap if she knows that Bonnie is dead? What was the purpose of keeping her death a secret for so long? They only found out because they needed magic and she wasn't there to bail them out? And what was with them throwing all those trinkets on a tree stump? That's what Bonnie's been reduced to – a tree stump? In the end they had Bonnie making them all feel better because they were crying
. Although it was funny how Bonnie completely skipped over Damon when she was giving her pep talk. It was also creepy how Bonnie told Elena she saw her happy over the summer. Um, you mean while her and Damon were getting busy? The only good part of the wake/funeral was Tyler showing up but even that was ruined because Caroline was kissing with Jessie earlier that day. Seriously, Tyler is out helping fellow werewolves and Caroline blows it all up as though he dumped her.
Also, both Elena and Damon not telling Stefan that they are dating is LYING! Even if Elena says otherwise. They both feel guilty but not telling Stefan was inconsiderate and confusing to someone who has amnesia especially with Elena being such a flirt.
In the books they have a story line with super vamps and it came across to me as very cheesy so it seems the show is going in that direction. They had better not screw up with the mythology this season if not it looks like s5 may be joining s4 as the worst.
What was your favorite scene/quote?'You're a vampire not a caveman.' (When Stefan was going to throw the used blood bag out the window) Then Stefan appropriately says 'Let me get this straight. I helped you steal this car, I found out I was a vampire who killed his own father and yet I don't litter?
'I have a hungry vampire who forgot he's the hero of the story.' I am loving how the writers are constantly referring to Stefan as the hero.
'I may have amnesia but I'm not an idiot.'
'I’m good, right? I’m compassionate. I live with this burning hunger inside of me that allows me to stay in control. But what do I have to show for it? Huh?.. I have no memories because my brain was fried. My brother who has been my brother for 160 some odd-years—stole my girlfriend. And my girlfriend let him. So, you tell me. What’s the point of being good? '
'I don't want to be the person in these journals anymore. I don't want to live in this house. I don't my brother's advice. I don't want to hear how I supported you Elena. And I definitely do not want to continue this conversation.'
Stefan being honest was great. Stefan has nothing yet we saw by the end of the episode, especially by burning his journals, that he is still not going to let go of his humanity and become the ripper because he doesn't want to be that person. Even with literally nothing Stefan is still fighting to be his best. Stefan has rejected his worst side and recognises how unhealthy being around Damon and Elena is for him so he leaves.
Stefan being disgusted with Damon and Elena was awesome. Instead of Stefan showing his anger and distrust of them by snapping Jeremy's neck he simply walks out on them. Again Stefan has shown how he is consistently in control and even with amnesia his strong character remains intact.
What scene was the most shocking to you or caught you off guard?Damon suddenly being Mr. cuddly and sensitive with Jeremy. I sort of expected that reaction with Elena but with Jeremy it seemed to come out of no where. I'm completely on board with Damon becoming a softy with everyone but let's hope he continues his new found affection when he and Elena break up.
The fact neither Damon nor Elena didn't bother telling Stefan about them dating wasn't a shock but was a shock was that Elena waited until after she spent some time flirting with Stefan – rubbing his chest and leaving her hand lingering there and trying to relive the moment right before they made love for the first time – and almost kisses him and then she tells him she is dating Damon. Although I loved how she simply said 'I'm with Damon.' instead of saying 'I love Damon, it will always be Damon.' Basically even though I hate Damon, in this episode Elena was being a really crapty girlfriend to Damon and a crapty ex-girlfriend to Stefan. How many times does she have to break either brother's heart?
And any additional thoughts! When Caroline listed all the new things she's learned and Elena says 'You did all that for Stefan?' Jealous much Elena!
The most important thing Elena said this episode was 'No Stefan, it wasn't you it was me. Becoming a vampire changed me.' This confirms that it was the s/b and being sired to Damon that changed Elena into someone she wasn't meant to be. It is canon that when you become a vampire your own personality becomes heightened yet here Elena is admitting that she changed and that she wasn't always this way. There have been arguments in the past with posters (not necessarily on this site) saying that Elena was always this new person (after s/b) but here we have her character confirming otherwise.
This episode felt like mostly a filler or a rehash of the past 4 seasons instead of something fresh. The only new items were that Dr. Maxfield has a sinister plan, Tyler came back and everyone now knows Bonnie is dead.
