I figured we can have some interactions here haha
I saw this question on tumblr and thought we could have some fun here
So if you was a head writer for season five...what would you throw into the melting pot of storylines. Where wool you take certain characters etc...
Feel free to get creative with your stories! =) using any character you want. Try to be as unbias as possible lol =)

*Finger Pyramid of Evil Contemplation*
I'd start with throwing Caroline into the Abyss. Never again. Gone. Just for this, I'd introduce some secret order that was created some 6 millennia ago for this sole purpose. That's all that's ever mentioned of them, some crude drawing is shown of Caroline on a cave painting being tossed into the Pit. Once it's done, these people go back to their normal lives and her existence ceases to all her friends. Tyler being able to come back is a ruse by Klaus. As soon as he steps foot in town, Klaus reaches into his chest and rips his heart out. He then beheads him and walks off back to NO with a new head to mount on the wall of his new house.
3 episodes in, Elena is found sleeping some new guy from college, she tries to apologize to Damon, he says no more and ends any relation with Elena. Elena boo-hoos for the rest of the season to no avail, tiring on the viewer to the point where I can write Katherine as devising a plan to kill her, become a Vampire again and assume Elena's life all with the help of Damon.
On the side, Damon, now knowing Silas is posing as his brother, asks if Silas can really raise the dead or if it's possible (Bonnie brought Jeremy back). Damon makes plans to bring Rose back and to track down Stefan. He'll succeed in the former by the end of the season and the latter by the half-way point, with Silas helping since his guise is blown anyways. Stefan hears what happened between Damon & Elena and wants in on the plot to do away with her, also not wanting anything to do with her anymore after all the crap. We also get the doppelganger explanation, at least on the Stefan/Silas front and some Salvatore family back story. New girl arrives in town who is half-demon and starts a budding relationship with Stefan.
Bonnie gets to see Sheila again, now a Reaper, who backhands her and grants her life again. Tells her to listen to her elders when it comes to magic and to love that boy Jeremy. Jeremy takes back up Vampire hunting, to replace the spot left by Alaric. Matt helps on the side/when he can when he's not going with Bekah or sexing her up. Near the tail end of the season, his mom comes back to town and drops the whole Succubus/Incubus bombshell on him.
Silas, after serving his part of bringing back Rose and showing Damon where Stefan is, leaves for the next season and a half, to gain power to wage war against the Spirits instead of just destroying the barrier between realms.
I think I'm missing someone...? Anyways, by the end of the season, 2 characters are wiped out with a 3rd planned for S6, a relationship is ended, a new one starts (Stefan & new girl), 3 old ones are brought back in solid fashion (Damon & Rose, Matt & Bekah, Jeremy & Bonnie), new creatures are introduced, Katherine is a on her way to becoming a Vampire again, and we've got a war brewing. Oh, and half-demon girl is the foundation for the next big baddie coming to town.
You knew I was going to say some off-the-wall stuff so don't act surprised that it's there, all typed up for everyone to read. It's the basis for the season and I can flesh it out more if need be.

I can't have that. I erased her from existence for a reason. And NO, can't have her there. If it was one or the other, she can stay in MF...6ft down in a vervain field, encased in a cement block laced with vervain with vervain & wood fragment landmines placed all around it in the one spot on earth where the sun never sets, without her ring.
You know what, scratch killing Elena off. In S6, everyone blames her for everything that's happened to them and every death since. They exile her from MF. Katherine ends up on probation with everyone and eventually becomes just 'one of the gang', 2 seasons later, Elena comes back to town with a supernatural gang she's built based around knock offs of the current gang (bootleg Stefan, bootleg Damon, bootleg Jeremy, you get the idea) and is now the big baddy for that season while the MF gang tries to end her once and for all.
On a serious note, if I was writing, I'd probably transition away from the triangle (either dropping Elena as the apple of everyone's eye and giving the main 3 new, working, developing relationships with new characters that play well off them and doesn't cause trouble for the brother dynamic) and more towards the show focusing more overall on the gang (everyone gets more prominent stories of their own) as a whole. Throwing characters together that have little time together up to this point and kind of mixing up the pairings (Damon hanging out more with Caroline for a stretch or Tyler without any malicious attitude towards one another, Stefan I think has a pretty good track record with everyone so maybe some Jeremy time?; you get the idea). Also would throw Damon & Bonnie together for a stretch so we get some back story on his days as Guardian of the Bennetts.

I would definitely transition with the triangle being the main focus and making the main focus the way the gang comes together to deal with whatever supernatural issue that is going on. I agree Slash with having characters interact with characters they normally dont. Stefan is one who interacts with most. the only one you rarely see him with is Jeremy and Liz. if you consider her a character and I would introduce a supernatural villain who is running the schools in mystic falls or even the new Mayor who has a hidden agenda. I would love to have them explore the bennett line and see more mainstream bennett characters as well as dig into the story of why doppelgangers exist where did the witches get corrupted and how to balance the spirits. it would be nice to see the other side and how these spirits come up with their order lol

If I was a writer on TVD the first thing I would do is call Joss Wheton to help me write my way out of this mess. Maybe we could make S4 a dream, that would be a start. lol Seems to me Slash's idea of Damon with a Bennett witch follows his character background.

Not sure if you read this article but when Whedon was asked for his comments '...and the magazine specifically asked about Twilight and The Vampire Diaries.Twilight and The Vampire Diaries.' He responded: “The Twilight thing and a lot of these franchise attempts coming out, everything rests on what this girl will do, but she’s completely passive, or not really knowing what the hell is going on,” he said. “And that’s incredibly frustrating to me because a lot of what’s taking on the oeuvre of Buffy, is actually a reaction against it. Everything is there — except for the Buffy. A lot of things aimed at the younger kids is just Choosing Boyfriends: The Movie.” www.wetpaint.com/vampire-diaries/articles/2013-08-23-joss-whedon-the-vampire-diariesWhedon's comment is especially true about Elena being completely passive especially in s4 and the sire bond.

napoli - Yes I read the same article. I like movies and series with a strong female role. It would have been ok to have Elena a little indecisive the first season because of her age and circumstances. But they could have grown her character into a decisive / compassionate role and not take away her freedom to change her mind. In fact it would have been more believable IMO. The writers kept her afraid and helpless too long.
