SPOILER ROUNDUP
Premiere date. Season 3 will premiere Sunday, September 29.
Premiere title. The premiere will be called "The Heart of the Truest Believer."
The season in be 22 episodes long.
Two Distinct Acts. We can expect the show to be split into two distinct acts next season, each 11 episodes long. It will mean a longer winter hiatus, but hopefully no random weeks off in the spring.
Neverland Drama. The Storybrooke crew will definitely be spending some time in Neverland come Season 3, which makes sense based on the Season 2 finale. Jennifer Morrison (Emma) said about the new locale: "I will be interested to see how we are all impacted by that new land. I think whenever we're in a place where everyone's relationships are impacted by their environment and it heightens the stakes for everyone, it becomes very interesting drama."
And Peter Pan? We will meet this iconic character, but so far all we know about him is that he's male, he's not the leader of the Lost Boys we met in the finale, we will learn more about the home office, he's definitely uber creepy, and he will have some sort of backstory with Rumple, because who doesn't?
The Henry Prophecy. We will learn more about the prophecy surrounding Henry and Rumple, and according to the showrunners, "The future, it’s never what you think. That doesn’t mean it’s not going to be terrible, but it’s never quite exactly what you think. What that prophecy actually means and how it’s going to play out is something [Rumple]'s going to find out the hard way."
Ship Dynamics. Yes, everyone on board the Jolly Roger wants to save Henry, but "just because you want the same thing, doesn’t mean you agree on the methods. And that’s going to be some of the drama there. Despite the fact that they all want to save Henry, they have a long and difficult history with each other that they need to deal with." Perhaps relatedly, you can expect lots of Regina, though it's unclear if she'll be good or bad. In general, we will see the cast getting back to their fundamental selves, including more warrior Snow!
Emma Will Learn More About Magic. And it kind of sounds like Regina might help train her. We will also learn more about her past.
Emma's love life? It sounds like the semi love triangle between Hook, Emma, and Nealfire might continue.
Will Neal Be Back? Michael Raymond-James (Neal) has been promoted to a series regular, so we can expect to see a lot of him. As for Neal's story with his dad, Michael said to Zap2it on the likelihood of forgiving Rumple: “I don't think anything is too big [to overcome]. It's a story about family and love, I think that there isn't anything that's too big to overcome. Maybe I'm wrong, but I want to believe eventually, given the right amount of time and the right amount of effort, that all those things can be overcome."
What About Storybrooke? We will continue to see Storybrooke while the leads are away, and the writers are working hard to balance all three lands well.
Rumbelle? Rumbelle are separated right now, but that might not be true for the whole season.
Bye-bye, Ruby. Meghan Ory (Ruby/Red) is leaving Once Upon a Time for her new show, CBS crime procedura lIntelligence. However, it sounds like the writers are open to seeing her come back for guest spots, so hopefully Ruby will be around now and again.
Returning characters. It sounds like Lancelot might be back, and Giancarlo Esposito (Sydney Glass/The Magic Mirror) definitely will be.
New characters. We will meet Tinker Bell, who will be played by Rose McIver. Tink will also have a connection to one of the main characters on the Jolly Roger. Meanwhile, OUAT co-creators Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis announced at Comic-Con that little mermaid Ariel will also be joining Season 3.

SPOILER
Question: I’d like to know more about the new season of Once Upon A Time! –Joe
Ausiello: Lost fans just might get a sense of Season 4 deja vu when the Jolly Roger drops anchor in Neverland, and its passengers ultimately face the decision of who to follow. “You’ve got five people on a ship who all think they’re leaders, so we’ll have to see how they react when they face their first obstacle,” series cocreator Eddy Kitsis hints. Adds Adam Horowitz, “Theres certainly some friction, but theres also a shared goal they have to achieve” — finding Henry. “The question is: Will they achieve it together, separately or at all?”

SPOILERS ON NEVERLAND & PETER PAN
I’d like some Once Upon a Time scoop — especially about the “Boy Who Never Grew Up.” –Mason
You may be wondering, as I was, why Once‘s Peter Pan is a force “we all should fear”? (Or was Rumple overselling it?) “There’s a history between those two,” series cocreator Adam Horowitz affirms. “There is a big reason why he said if you’re going to be scared of someone, this is the guy to be scared of.” But there is also a degree of professional respect. “When you meet Pan, you’re going to see a very, very, very clever person,” says Eddy Kitsis. “And if there’s one thing Rumple admires, it’s somebody who has game.”
Please help us, we are all dying here! What else can you say about Regina’s new love interest/”special someone” on Once Upon a Time? –Ana
Fine, fine. I doubled back with the boys and Horowitz said that this “someone” “becomes a part of the show very quickly” – within the first five episodes – “but in a way that you don’t expect.” Once Upon a Time Bosses Tease Peter Pan’s Frightening Season 3 Debut: “We Should All Be Worried!”

SPOILERS: Mermaids and Romance Ahead on Once Upon a Time
Before Ariel's highly anticipated arrival next season on Once Upon a Time, other mermaids will make a splash on the ABC hit's Season 3 premiere. But unlike Ariel, these are nasty little fishies. According to Lana Parrilla, her Evil Queen and the rest of the Storybrooke gang traveling to Neverland will encounter a pod of finned creatures who are "beautiful, full-bodied and not the nicest mermaids. They're more like sirens." Trying to be on her very best behavior, Regina/Evil Queen will find a surprising love connection in the third episode — perhaps with Robin Hood (Sean Maguire), who will appear on both Once and its Wonderland spinoff. "Regina's love has to be very manly, and Robin Hood is that," Parrilla says. "I'm getting very excited." (Alas, she shouldn't get too excited, since producers tell me this romance will take a tragic turn.) Also expect to learn the origins of Tinker Bell, the Blue Fairy and fairy Nova. And while Rumplestiltskin (Robert Carlyle) and Belle (Emilie de Ravin) are separated in different lands, "Rumbelle" shippers will be treated to what de Ravin calls "a dreamlike reunion/interaction between Mr. Gold and Belle," with the possibility of Belle soon joining her lost love in Neverland. But will they live happily ever after?

CASTING SPOILER:Once Upon a Time Casts JoAnna Garcia As Its Little Mermaid
Once Upon a Time's sixth episode of the new season will be titled "Ariel" and introduces Reba fave JoAnna Garcia as the finned Disney princess from under the sea. Besides Reba, Garcia recently appeared on Royal Pains and last season's short-lived NBC sitcom Animal Practice. Producers promise a compelling back-story and twist for their Little Mermaid, while retaining the beloved character's "wide-eyed" charm and ambitions we came to know in Disney's 1989 animated classic. And as is the norm with Once characters, she'll most likely have ties to a character we know. Could Ariel's witchy octopus nemesis Ursula the sea witch be far behind? "Ursula could appear this season, absolutely," teases executive producer Eddy Kitsis. "But on our show you never know what that might mean." Although Ariel’s appearance on the show — and often with Swisher’s name loosely attached — has been rumored since Season 1, the character’s Season 3 debut was confirmed at last month’s Comic-Con, in a teaser reel that showed a mysterious being sneaking up on a dwarf, stealing the fork (!) out of his lunchbox and vanishing into the ocean. Then, with the flick of a glistening fin, the redhead revealed herself and swam away. Yet despite the context of the teaser (a la the previous Comic-Con’s misleading glimpse of Captain Hook), Ariel will not surface in Storybrooke but in another realm.

Robert Carlyle Talks Once Upon A Time Season 3 from Comic Con
Gold, at the end of Episode 22, Season 2, seems to be saying 'let's go off together and find this.' That isn't going to last. That lasts about two and a half minutes of Season 3, when he tells you 'well I didn't actually say that.' I had to go back and look at 22 and see that he didn't actually say that," Carlyle teases. "So he's on his own at the beginning of Season 3. He's on his own mission now. Baelfire, to him, is dead, so his life is pretty much over. The only thing that he can do to in any way honor his son's memory is to find his son, even though he's been told that a prophecy many hundreds of years ago that that boy's going to be his undoing. So at the beginning of Season Three, you've got a guy who is in a sense trying to do the right thing now, for the first time in many hundreds of years, even if that means his own death."
Carlyle thinks that part of what makes Mr. Gold/Rumpelstiltskin a compelling character is that he has traits that are inherent in everyone -- he's just a bit more open about it. "People are conflicted. I am, I'm sure we all are. We all have conflicted opinions; he just voices them, you know? He's a very, very normal, kind of ordinary kind of man in many, many ways. Even though he's fantastic; he's got magic and all of these things. The core of him is conflicted," he says.
One thing is for certain, though -- he doesn't want to see Mr. Gold settling down. "I wouldn't be happy to see him having babies with Belle. I think that would be death. I just don't think that could happen. But I think he should end up on his own in some way. But it could be for the side of good. It could be, in the end," he says. "Rumpbelle" fans shouldn't fret, however... the two characters will be interacting in Season 3. "One thing I can tell you without giving away too much is that Rumpelstiltskin and Belle will meet in Season 3, and in Neverland, in fact. But, it may not be in the fashion that you think," he reveals.
"I wouldn't watch if Gold suddenly became nice," Carlyle admits. "There's no show. I think that's what makes the character, certainly interesting for me to play, and I think it's certainly interesting for the audience to watch, that he's conflicted. Does he actually want to be a good man? Does he really want it? Someone said in the panel 'Babies with Belle, is that what he wants to do?' I don't think so. I think if we did that, we went down that road, I think the character would vanish and maybe the show as well. I think they want to want to see Rumpelstiltskin doing bad things," he speculates.

SPOILER: Question: Any spoilers on Once Upon a Time? —Patti
Ausiello: Matt Mitovich just got off the horn with series creators Adam Horowitz and Eddy Kitsis, and they caught us up on some of the backstory gaps that will be filled in via flashbacks during Season 3. Episode 2 is Snow/Charming-centric, covering the time between the former’s awakening from the sleep curse and when they encountered Regina on the battlefield. “How did the queen react to that? And who first told her?” Horowitz wonders. Episode 3 will relate Tinkerbell’s origin, featuring The Blue Fairy (but not Amy Acker’s Nova) and addressing the question: “What makes a fairy?” Also on tap for fall is a new chunk of Rumple’s past, the tale of how Hook became a pirate and the self-explanatory Episode 6, titled “Ariel” (and yes, Eric is being cast/will not be an existing character).
So excited about JoAnna Garcia as Ariel on Once Upon a Time. Do you have any scoop? — Nina
NATALIE: As the producers previously teased, Ariel has ties to a character we already know. "She's somebody who wants to see the world," executive producer Edward Kitsis says. "That spirit will run in her DNA still, but we'll meet her in a surprising way." We hear that will take place in Neverland, where other mermaids may not be so nice. But the good news is that we'll also likely meet Prince Eric!

SPOILERS:
Any fresh Once Upon a Time scoop??? Need something to hold me until the premiere! –@bezi12
During my long, in-depth Fall Preview chat with the series’ creators, Eddy Kitsis excitedly touted Season 3’s 11-episode trip to Neverland “as its own season, like one giant movie. And like any adventure movie, there’s romance, there are things that are terrifying, and there are things that are heartbreaking. That was always our goal, to have that big, summer movie feel.” Promising a mix of “uplift, romance, action and quieter moments,” Adam Horowitz added, “The best kind of roller coaster is the one that goes through all of that stuff.”
On Once Upon a Time, magic always comes with a price, so did the magic that Robin Hood used to heal Marian come with a price? –Mirza
Damn straight it did. ‘“There’s a price — and a debt,” Adam Horowitz teases of Sean Maguire’s upcoming, Fairytale Land-based arc as the Prince of Thieves.

SPOILER:
Question: Can we look forward to any substantial Snow/Emma scenes in Once Upon a Time Season 3? Also, is Snow finally going to get back to her warrior ways? –Christina
Ausiello: Yes, and thus yes. As mom and daughter brave Neverland together while still adjusting to their family dynamic, “In a lot of ways, Mary Margaret may not be able to bond with Emma, but Bandit Snow and Emma have a lot in common,” notes cocreator Eddy Kitsis. Meaning, going up against Peter Pan and his Lost Boys will bring bow-toting Snow to the fore. “David and Mary Margaret last year were saying, ‘We are both,’” Kitsis reminds. “But this year it’s, ‘We need Snow and Charming.’ That’

What's going to happen to Henry on Once Upon a Time? — Melanie
NATALIE: Though the Charmings and their foes are working together to rescue Henry, the real question you may want to ask yourself is what happens to Henry if and when they do save him? Does he go home with Emma, Snow and Charming? Or does the Evil Queen have other ideas about his future? First, though, they'll have to figure out why Peter Pan even wants Henry. "In the first few episodes, you're going to start realizing what he wants Henry for, but like any good mystery, you won't know the whole picture until you watch the whole 11 episodes," executive producer Edward Kitsis says.

SPOILERS:
Will Once Upon a Time explain how Mulan and Aurora helped Philip get his soul back from the wraith, before they found an injured Baelfire? –JJ
In a word, kinda. “We’ll hint at it, but we probably aren’t going to show that [back]story for a while,” says cocreator Eddy Kitsis. For one, it’s not like Neal has reason to raise it as a conversation topic. But more importantly, Kitsis explains, “One of the things about Season 3 is we’ve really tried to focus on the core characters, including the six people on that boat and Neal. We do eventually want to get to that [Philip/wraith] story, but we’re coming out of the gate with the people on that boat.”
Is there any way that Once Upon a Time‘s Ariel and Regina already met? Assuming that the “certain mermaid” Regina referred to in Episode 1×12, “Skin Deep,” was Ariel? –Mirza
I suspect you are onto something, though cocreator Adam Horowitz will only say that “we might” flash back to that aforementioned encounter during JoAnna Garcia’s turn as the Little Mermaid.
Last year, OUAT ran a one-hour special to recap the season before the new season starts. Do you know if they will be doing that again? –Bernadette
Yes, they shall. Once Upon a Time: Journey to Neverland will air Sunday, Sept. 29 at 7/6c, leading into the Season 3 opener.

Keck's Exclusives: First Look at Once Upon a Time's Tinker Bell
ABC's Once Upon a Time will add a little pixie dust this season when Kiwi actress Rose McIver debuts as Peter Pan sidekick Tinker Bell in the third episode. "Our Tink is very strong, a lot of fun and not afraid to go out and have a few shots," says executive producer Edward Kitsis. "And although her heart is usually in the right place, she is mischievous." McIver, 25, says her "glamorous" Tink comes with a magic wand — and a mysterious past. "Captain Hook has a history with Tink and wants to find her to help lead the team to Peter Pan's camp," says the actress, whose wings are added digitally in postproduction. Viewers will see Tinker Bell in different stages of her life, including during interactions with the Blue Fairy and the Evil Queen, says exec producer Adam Horowitz. "Tink has gone through an evolution in our story. She begins in one place and ends in another."
