What are reading right now? What's on your list to read? What are some of your recommendations? I am reading the outlander series by Diana Gabaldon (since January already 7 books 1000 pages each) and I am beyond excited about the news that it's getting filmed this year as a 16 episode TV series. So so happy My all time fave bookseries is "The Bronzehorseman" by Paullina Simons. One of the best lovestories I ever heard of. It was a recommendation from Torrey deVitto and I love her forever for this. It's getting filmed, too and the movie will be out in 2014. I am so addicted to books. I read over 30 books last year. This year will be less because these outlander books have soooooooo many pages. On my list is the 11th TVD book, The Game of Thrones books (I prefer to read them first and watch the show later) and my friend recommended some books from Rebeca Gable which I will read sooner or later. What can I recommend? Well of course The Bronzehorse man if you are into epic lovestories. I really loved the Nightshades books, Cassia & Ky (ally condie) was nice but I only read the first 2 so far... need to catch up on the other ones soon, The Tigers curse by Collen Houck is awesome, too, Sara Greun "Water for Elephants" was much much better than the movie

I LOVED Nightshades so much 'Rift' is the first, 'Rise' is the second: Chronicling the rise of the Keepers, this is the stunning prequel to Andrea Cremer's internationally bestselling Nightshade trilogy! Sixteen-year-old Ember Morrow is promised to a group called Conatus after one of their healers saves her mother's life. Once she arrives, Ember finds joy in wielding swords, learning magic, and fighting the encroaching darkness loose in the world. She also finds herself falling in love with her mentor, the dashing, brooding, and powerful Barrow Hess. When the knights realize Eira, one of their leaders, is dabbling in dark magic, Ember and Barrow must choose whether to follow Eira into the nether realm or to pledge their lives to destroying her and her kind.
So the prequel focuses on the Keepers.

I guess we'll have to add those to our list too. Don't worry I promise I will get to The Bronzehorseman eventually! My list seems to growing by leaps & bounds at the moment!

The Game of Thrones books (I prefer to read them first and watch the show later) Doing the opposite. Watching the show, then going to the books after the season is over but since the 3rd book is supposed to be split between this past season and next, I'm waiting on that. Should probably go ahead and get the 2nd book though. I like the idea of going in completely blind not knowing what to expect with this show.

Slash. Beautiful Creatures is also a male lead n POV and was really good. THE movie goes a different route like I enjoyed the movie but it didn't do the book it's justice. I don't even think a sequel will be made which sucks because that happened with the I am number for series. I enjoyed the movie and decided to try the book and absolutely loved the books but was disappointed the movie didn't make the big hit it was expected to make. I may check out the movie of BC since a few of you have read the book & seen the movie & see if it's something I might be interested in. I never read the books of I Am Number Four, but I loved the movie & thought it was good. It is a shame that it wasn't a bigger hit for a sequel. They had alot of potential to go far with it! Ah, I now recall that BC does take place from the guy's POV. Should probably check out the movie this week. I just really want to peel away from Vampires for a bit is all. Werewolves, Witches, Demons, Angels, Succubi, Trolls (I've got a book dealing with Trolls), etc.. MT/A&O/Nightshade covers Werewolves, Witches are covered by The Hollows, Angels are covered by the Fallen series (but I haven't gone past the first book as I thought it dragged on before getting anywhere) and I have no clue where to start with something dealing with Succubi. As for reading, nothing lasts. If I'm really hooked on the book, I'll finish it in a day or two depending on length. Less than a week at the most. If I buy a book and start reading when I get home, there is a good chance I'm a good chunk/half-way through it before 3am...and probably still up reading it if I'm not taking a break. So if I did buy all the books I have my eyes on, they probably wouldn't last the month. Have you read the Shadow Falls series by C.C. Hunter? It has a little bit of everything in it. I haven't read it yet, but it's on my list to read next. One of the guys is a werewolf & I think the other one might be a fairy. I'm not sure. It has to deal with a triangle of course, but it did sound good so I'll see. If your interested in something with Succubi I know that Richelle Mead did a series with that. I don't know if it's any good, but I know that was one of her adult series. I have another series on Angels that is on my list called the Guild Hunters Series by Nalini Singh. Haven't read it yet, but I saw that it had to do with Angels so I thought I might give it a chance. I hope it's decent. I'm like you when it comes to books. If I'm hooked I'll finish it in a day or two depending on the length! If I would have had all the VA books, I would've read them in probably less than a week. The Lux series aren't super thick so I read them in like 5 days. I had to eat & sleep sometime!

Nope, haven't read Shadow Falls. Triangles are something I want to avoid =\ I don't care for them in TVD or True Blood and they come off as handled poorly a lot of the time and become nothing more than an annoyance. In TVD, I'm just wanting 1 Brother to admit defeat so it can be put behind them (don't care who it is; I hated Damon's pining for Elena all this time and trying to make moves and I was really happy that Stefan was trying to move on this past season despite still being drawn to Elena and that he kind of got closer to Bekah). True Blood thankfully seems to have pumped the brakes on their triangle with Eric & Bill having been doing their own thing as of late from Sookie (and Alcide is doing his own as well). Then there is HON as mentioned before where it's less of a triangle and just...ugh. Twilight, from the movies, was billed as a triangle but I didn't see it I guess I'm also just tired of everyone chasing after this 'one' girl for whatever reason. Mercy Thompson series had a triangle for like a book or two but it was handled properly IMO. She was wanted by 2 different Alphas, the local pack Alpha named Adam (who has a teen daughter) and one she grew up with and previously dated Sam (who is the son of the Marrok so if she had picked him and married, she'd be the sister in law to Anna from A&O who is married to Charles, Sam's brother). It's kind of refreshing to read a supernatural novel where that stuff is out of the way in a short time or not bothered with at all and they pretty much spend the rest of series developing that relationship (Vampire Academy falls into this as well). Fun fact, Mercy's Vampire friend is named 'Stefan'. I forgot all about Richelle Mead's other series. I've wanted to check them out. Georgina Kincaid series (the Succubus) and the Dark Swan series. They're supposed to be aimed at adult audiences so maybe I need to start putting some distance from the YA category to see how much is different between the material.

Nightshades Prequel first because Nightshades gives away the storyline for the prequel
Although I haven't read the prequel yet but from what the summery says it's the story of the parents and that was topic in the nightshades books.... well one spoils the other I guess

Since the internet went out on Saturday (love AT&T worthless jack...-_-), decided to get started on The Immortal Ones by Julie Kagawa. Just over 100 pages in and I have to say, I like what I've read so far. The main character, Allie/Allison, has already made her transition into a Vampire and the one who turned her, Kanin, I'm liking so far cause he's pretty much laid it out flat to her about what she is now (and I like that the author has gone into detail early on about establishing her Vampires) and what she must do to survive.
She is no longer human and should leave behind that life/humanity (you are now a monster/demon and you must accept that), she needs human blood as animal blood won't do and will just make the Hunger worse (thank God they're avoiding the usual route I've grown tired of; this was one her first questions after the turning and he knew it before she even asked it), she *WILL* end up killing a human eventually (a matter of 'when', not 'if') due to the Hunger, Kanin has explained strengths (speed, endurance, strength, healing, etc.) and weaknesses (stake to the heart puts you into an indefinite sleep apparently, beheading/fires will do you in for good) and I think over one chapter, this is all explained/established which was great for me. He's pretty blunt/straightforward with her.
He tells her what kind of demon she becomes is all up to her and how she stalks her prey is something she must come to terms with since all won't come easily and/or wanting to do her harm like her first outing (if they beg her for mercy, invite her in for dinner at their table, etc., would she be sparing of them and stuff like that is all up to her and how she chooses to conduct herself).
So it's quite a surprising/refreshing read for me.
On another matter, does anyone else like to read/check out a sample chapter on a author's site of a book that's of interest to them just to see if the author's style is to their liking? I've been doing this with a few and so far, I don't think I've had any problems. The only reason I do this is because I don't think I'll be reading the Sookie Stackhouse books because of Charlaine Harris' style. She had a short story in 'Wolfsbane & Mistletoe' which is an anthology collection (bought it cause Patricia Briggs had a story in it) and I kind of struggled with Harris' Sookie Stackhouse story in the book mainly due to the style. Not sure how to explain it but it just didn't seem to 'flow' smoothly for me when reading and was offputting in fact. Everyone else I've read and even those I've just kind of bought/got on a whim have been solid reads as far as the author's style goes. It's just weird for me and was just curious about others =\

I haven't heard about that book though.the immortal ones so I can always added it to my list lol

I did a few times of authors I've already read of the new books they have coming out, but then I want to slap myself because I have to wait Lord knows how long for the books to be released! Slash I think I told you I was planning on reading Julie's Iron Fey series. If it's any good I'll let you know. I know you kinda wanted to take a little break from vampires. I also added Iron Druid Chronicles to my list. Ruby what are you reading right now?
