EVIL IN THE PAST – Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Alaric (Matt Davis) come face to face with an old enemy after they obtain a weapon that may be able to destroy Cade. Stefan (Paul Wesley) is held captive by a surprising acquaintance and is forced to confront a dark secret from his past. Meanwhile, Caroline (Candice King) and Matt (Zach Roerig) try to keep Stefan’s violent history from destroying him. Cade (guest star Wolé Parks) focuses his attention on Bonnie (Kat Graham) and digs deep into her mind. Tony Solomons directed the episode written by Neil Reynolds (#813). Original airdate 2/17/2017.

I was SO excited Kai was making a comeback! But the episode was: meh. I was bored. Kai was great as usual but every. Single. Character was off today. Such a let down.
PS I guess the twins are the new sirens?
Actually one storyline was good, I liked that they showed how compelling someone has a ripple effect.
And are we seriously supposed to believe Bonnie made another world just like that?!

The episode felt like somewhat like a re-hash. In terms of the twins, tho, my impression was that the whole reason Stefan went Ripper in Cade's service was to save the twins from being co-opted by Cade? That's why they have been in hiding. The twins are Gemini through Jo, so there is a connection to Kai. And I think the "other side" was created by a witch. So plotwise I did buy that Bonnie -- who has always been proposed as very strong witch -- could make something like that.

So plotwise I did buy that Bonnie -- who has always been proposed as very strong witch -- could make something like that. i liked the fact that bonnie can make a whole new other side. maybe the good side where the souls of the supernatural are not doomed. which the original other side was, kind of... Bonnie has been through hell, so unleashing that power thru her grief of loosing the person who has always made her the priority could possibly do that to her. I dont like the whole ripple effect of the compulsion. When Alaric was a vampire, he compelled ElenA TO forget Damon. When he became human again, the compulsion didnt go away. so I feel like this is definitely a mixup.
