Okay, I gave it a four. I have only watched it once, I may grant it an upgrade. The feels were just a little forced -- except for poor Alaric!! -- and I swallowed my tongue a bit during Stefan's Delena retcon. (I think we can predict what Julie Plec's and Kevin Williamson's original idea for the series finale might be.) However, all that aside, I loved Stefan's real goodbye to Elena. I also loved his two exchanges with Caroline. The prediction of an apocalyptic near future for Mystic Falls was an interesting and more adult change in tone and echo from the books -- liked that both Matt and Damon were on guard for their hood. Loved that Damon definitely decapitated Kai -- LOL! That was great. It definitely felt like an end -- and a beginning. Do want to see what the season 7 opener brings! What do you think Julie and Kevin had in mind to end it? Because I thought I knew and than I read Julie's bizzfeed interview where she said they will stay faithful to Delena's relationship and that blew what I hoped was my correct theory out the bloody window. KW was Stelena...now, I have no idea what they had in mind.

KW was Stelena...now, I have no idea what they had in mind. First of all JP's interview in buzzfeed is to calm the fans down. She's been getting a lot of heat on twitter about Nina leaving and fans are scared their ship is over so she's soothing them. Let's see next how long they keep Bonnie and Damon apart. Before anyone gets up in arms over Bonnie being one of Elena's best friends Elena did brother hop within hours so Bamon is much less icky than that. Elena almost encouraged Bonnie to be with Damon by saying in 6x22: We'll both get everything we want (which really she means Damon) we just can't have it at the same time (which would be icky if it was at the same time).

I was shocked hearing Stefan admit he was finally fully over Elena yet she is still his best friend. He just won't admit it.
It broke my heart seeing Alaric having to give up both sides of his family in a span of two days. Jo and the twins one night and then Elena the next day. Yes, he does still have Jeremy but technically Jer really isn't part of his family. Elena just inter-linked them because she is Ric's step-daughter.
I was honestly happy to see the end of Kai after all the trouble he caused. Very clever of Damon to pretend he didn't care and then turn around and physically tear off his head. Thank you, Damon!

I actually really liked this episode. Kai like napoli said was finally the villain you love to hate. The ending scene of the last episode and then the premiere of the finale was amazing. The fact he killed himself to get back at his whole family was crazy and lunatic. I couldnt believe he actually did it but I knew he must have decided to turn himself into a cypher vampire or whatever they call themselves i forgot. Also his video that he left Bonnie was awesome, I wish him and Bonnie had more of a witchy fighting scene. Then Tyler killing Liv in order to trigger his curse and to save his own life was so sad. I loved that he decided to bite Kai. I was like if this is the way Tyler goes down or out of mystic falls i will be okay with it. But then I also knew Kai could most likely cure himself and it was pretty awesome when he realized that. Alaric freaking broke my heart. His performance last night in the car was amazing. I was so sad for him. His tears looked so real and so heart breaking. He at that moment had nothing else to loose. I know someone mentioned how Damon's first reaction with Elena on the floor was to call stefan instead of 911 and I think that was an important scene because it has always been that way. When Elena collapsed during the hybrid curse, Damon picked her up and took her to stefan. He was probably had so many thoughts going through his mind especially the fact that she just got hurt on his watch especially as a human. The goodbyes were sad. And you can tell that Nina was really crying in all those scenes. I have always loved the way nina does her crying scenes but actresses always know how to control them like their faces while "fake crying" the scene with the girls in the room was elena(nine) really crying. I wish we could have seen a beremy reunion. I wish we could have seen a Jo goodbye from everyone and for everyone to be there for alaric I wish there would have been a goodbye stelena kiss. (i know thats far fetching it but hey Elena gave Damon a goodbye kiss in season 2 with the werewolf bite) Most shocking and awesome scene was Damon, Bonnie and Kai Bonnie looking so heartbroken at the fact that Damon was going to let her die. Like she couldnt even look at him. All that I saw go across her face was it will never be me. It will always be Elena that people risk their lives for. Kai getting his head cut off by Damon. 'Heads it is." Damon giving Bon Bon his blood and her grabbing it like her life literally depended on it. (parallel to when he forced her to drink his blood.) The whole magical spell thing had me thinking about Damon when he told Elena in the earlier seasons that when it came down to Elena and Bonnie he would always choose Elena. I also liked it because Damon made the choice that Elena wouldve wanted without being told to. For me it was a very redeeming point in Damon's character story. Now for the loopholes Kai said that when he died the spell wouldnt be permanent? I couldve sworn he said it. But then he died and it was still active but the cloaking spell dissapeared. I know he said the spell was undone, but how did he make it irreversable also how did he rig it. If Elena's conscience was still active, then why lock her up. People could visit her in the mean time lol. So I wonder how they will go about that for next season. Overall I look forward to see how the new season will be and wat type of time jump they decide to do on The vampire diaries. I hope they match the time jump with The Originals as well.

The scene with Ty and LIv and when she gave him the option to live and he killed her, OMFG I was almost collapsing during that scene, it really took a toll on me. The scene with Alaric over Jo's dead body and his suicide attempt gave me the collywobbles. It was the so painful. I wish Michael Trevino the best for the future and maybe he too can make a guest star appearance in the next season. That would be awesome. Speaking of guest stars ...maybe Steve R McQueen can also make another appearance and find closure with Bon, that would be fine. Ruby I agree with you, at least that is how I understood your comment about the Stef/Caro and their interaction too forced. I can't help having the impression they are trying to forcefeed us with Stef/Caro. It isn't having any impact on me.

Really, I don't mean to laugh but you thought there would be an SE kiss? They didn't even dare have Stefan utter the words 'I love you' to Elena. I guess when Damon told Stefan last episode to 'watch it' at the suggestion from Stefan that SE were soul mates the writers decided to take their own advice. In SE's last scene Stefan barely spoke 'I can guarantee you it won't be high school.' and 'I'll see you Elena.' Besides those 2 phrases he just bobbed his head. Kai told Bonnie 'I can't undo the spell Bonnie. My death made it permanent.'

How awesome was Kai last night ? Finally a villain (since Klaus) worthy of loving to hate. Turning himself into a vampire to kill his entire coven...I don't watch TO but this move beats anything Klaus did on TVD. Drinking his father's blood to complete the transition was icing on the wedding cake! Too soon ? Elena figured out when she turned human that calling 911 is how you help people but Damon needed Stefan to tell him to take her to a hospital? Elena giving Alaric advice on how to handle grief is a little to ironic given her drug induced breakdown over Damon's death. I don't like Parkwood in the least but Tyler killing Liv to trigger his werewolf gene was a little too much for me. I know she was going to die anyway but it was just...no. Matt Davis was great last night but Jo's death was empty for me. Jo’s character never grew on me and there was just too much leaked prior to the episode for her death to have an impact. The most disgusting scene of the night wasn’t the DE dance although it was weird and came in as a close second. It was the Steroline, Stefan the Defan and DE shipper talking mere inches from Elena’s comatose body. Stefan declaring that he needed Damon more than he needed Elena was the biggest joke and retcon. That wasn’t the story the writers have presented but I get that they need to set up for next year. Good luck with that writers. The other stars of the night other than Kai were Bonnie and Damon. Bonnie facing off with Kai on her own was brave and continues to show how much Bonnie sacrifices her own well-being for her friends. She was almost able to kill him but it was super cool how Kai healed himslef of the werewolf bite. Damon’s evolution of a character is finally happening and the best part is that Elena had nothing to do with it. While Damon was stalking Elena when she was still dating his brother his reaction to saving Bonnie over Elena was this: 2x18 Damon ‘Let me be clear about something. If it comes down to you and the witch again I will gladly let Bonnie die. I will always choose you.’ While Damon was dating Elena in s5 his reaction to saving Bonnie over Elena was this: 5x06 ‘Well today, Silas was going to bring her (Bonnie) back to life after he got the anchor. But you told my boyfriend, who has never put anyone’s life before mine including his own to kill Silas before he could do that.’ In s6, after spending quality time with Bonnie who challenges Damon to be a better person, versus Elena who just expects the worst from Damon and doesn’t challenge him to be better, we finally get to see Damon helping someone without the goal of getting into their pants. I’m not saying he’ll never want to get into Bonnie's pants I just don’t think that’s on Damon’s radar right now. I mean Elena just went asleep a few minutes after their romp in the barn so he should be good until later...That Elena knew this would be Damon’s response is complete BS and just another retcon to add to the list. Damon lopping off Kai's head, even though I love Kai, was awesome. I’m just so glad Elena didn’t tell Caroline to take care of Stefan and she finally acknowledged everything Bonnie has sacrificed. In SE’s goodbye Stefan didn’t even tell Elena that he loved her back. How many nails does their coffin need? It's okay to love someone as a friend. They're soul friends remember? The DE goodbye was nice until the dance. Ballroom dancing in the forest? Yeah, cause that was DE’s thing. I get that they couldn't have them screwing in a dream-like sequence in the middle of the road (cause that was totally their thing) but the dance was weird and too long. It also seemed to serve as a Steroline push instead of DE moment. It was just bizarre. The great thing about the goodbye is that it came off like a real DE goodbye. Hopefully it’s the last we’ve seen of DE and personally – GOOD RIDDANCE! Stefan's comment was accurate according to the story written this season. He left MF, never planning to return due to his devastation over losing Damon. He told Elena to move on, with no intention of being included in her future beyond phone calls. After two years & losing Damon, Stefan sees the world differently. In thinking about Stefan's comments more, I think the best thing Elena did for Stefan was to bring him out of his shadowy world, where he was alone, to find love and friendship. He and Damon finding their way back to each other came out of the process of the brothers changing over the years, partly due to Elena's influence but not entirely. Anyway, I agree about Kai, liked your analysis of Damon's evolution and laughed out loud at Delena screwing in the road being their thing - yep, totally.

I suppose the way I viewed Stefan's grief over losing Damon was that staying in MF was too much of a reminder that Damon was dead. Stefan saw Damon die when their father shot them and was devastated because he blamed himself. Then he got a second chance to bring his brother back through vampirism but then to lose him again to death was too much. I never got the impression even in this season that Stefan needed to have Damon in his life but just that Stefan needs Damon to be alive. Stefan could easily relocate to another place and create a new life for himself as long as he knew his brother was okay. If Damon and Elena had taken the cure and gone off in isolation for their protection without the possibility of Stefan ever contacting them Stefan wouldn't have fallen apart without Damon because he would have known that Damon was okay. It's that distinction that doesn't bode well for a true Defan story line for next season.

Hold on, I didn't see the last episode, but Damon actually had the nerve to say Watch it when Stefan reference his and Elena's relationship? Seriously? The dude tried going after her while with Stefan how many times and he actually thinks he gets to be offended? I couldn't hate Damon more if the writers were actually trying to do it on purpose.

Because y'all know I love me some Alaric, the "goodbye" that upset me the most (and not in a good way) was Alaric and Elena's. It rubbed me the wrong way to have Elena be the one to tell Rick he can make it through, coming from the person who tried to circumvent grief the most. Coming from the person who when lost her boyfriend (whom just recently got back together with) used hallucinogens to see visions of him, was eating people, and then had Ric (of whom she is trying to give advice to now) erase her memories. Which she never got back until the end, when the person she was grieving for had already returned. And here is Alaric, who lost another woman he loves in a sudden and violent fashion who WONT return, at his wedding no less, and also losing his children (who also wont return). Elena, you can take your advice on making it through grief and you can shove it, in your perfectly youthful preserved body, that everyone can brain visit when they want (you know since she would still have an active conscious) ...I can't even with this show.

It's that distinction that doesn't bode well for a true Defan story line for next season. Stefan didn't leave though, he integrated back into MF and started picking up the pieces. He tried to talk Damon out of taking the cure, in a pretty extreme way with lots of vivid examples. Before that, he told Damon not to take the cure because he needed his help with Lily. Damon's a part of his life in a way Elena isn't anymore. That's why I don't view Stefan's speech to Caroline as a retcon or a set-up for next year: Stefan gives a fairly accurate answer to Caroline's question of whether he'll be okay with Elena leaving. Once upon a time she was his soul mate. Now, she's also the one who helped him reconnect with his brother, and that matters more to him than losing Elena for awhile. Edit: Actually, it probably was a lead-in to next year, letting the viewer know where Stefan stands with Damon. I agree with that part, just not the retcon part.

moshe12, I think they are locking Elena up to protect her from vampires seeking the cure.
