What did you Like? -- While it was wasn't an original script in that almost everything that happened re-staged something we have already seen in TVD, nonetheless I still liked pretty much everything about 6x14: the pace, the staging, the 'surprise' ending. I was emotionally engaged through the whole episode. The characters were really relating to each other in ways that felt organic. In fact, it seemed a lot longer than one episode normally does -- I mean that in a good way.
I especially liked Damon rising to the occasion to support Liz. Yet it was all in character: "This was me, this was me..." Hilarious! I liked how they unspooled all our conspiracy theories about the deaths of Elena's parents -- and rewrote the books, too.
I am not a big fan of Stefan and Caroline as a romantic couple as a long term solution, but I liked the way the kiss was staged, both characters equally engaged in the moment, but leaving their separate states of what could be future commitment ambiguous.
I loved the grouping around Liz in her final moment, each there for good reason. Bawled like a baby when Liz let go of the bike.
What scene was the most shocking to you or caught you off guard? I did not expect Enzo to do what he did. That was a real set up.

What did you Like? Finally there were real emotions again. I'm so sick of all the Delena break up and make up drama. This episode was so good. Candice was perfect in her mourning. Even Ian was good with his goodbye to Liz. I liked what Stefan said about the final moments in life. Such quotes went missing with all the action they put into the show. And although I still want Stefan and Caroline to be friends I think their scenes were cute and "cute" is what I missed most on TVD. So although I said knowing season 1+2 I'd never give a 5 to any episode again I did for this one. It had everything that once made me fall in love with TVD. Jeremy's real lifeplan even made me surpised again. It's rare lately that something happens that nobody saw coming.
What you did not like? Enzo. This obsession with hurting Stefan is just out of line. He used to be an interesting character but now he is just nuts. Nothing he does makes any sense. But from the spoiler interviews I read that they will focus more on this. Maybe it will turn out to be a storyline. Right now it's just a mess. What was your favorite scene/quote? I loved when Stefan talked about the final moments in life. Moments like this made season 1+2 special.
What scene was the most shocking to you or caught you off guard? Well not shocking but it caught me off guard that Jeremy put on this whole show about artschool only to leave and be a vampire hunter. I wonder if Alaric was the only one who knew. Maybe Matt knows, too. Maybe they talked about it when they were drinking?

...splendid episode, though I was crying half of the time...it was sooo tragic with Liz Forbes death and Jer's departure...surprise...so he is not going to art school after all, but heading to hunt vampires... that sentence where he mentioned Bonnie tore me up! Good bye for now my sweet Jeremy, I will miss you alot!!! And will be worrying about him as he is bound to be a vampire hunter, oh dear oh dear. Splendid episode...I liked the scenes with Damon and Liz...liked the Kiss between Caro and Steffie and yes I even liked the sunlight and all the superkitschy effects lol I give this episode 5/5 points, so far there have been 14 episodes this season and I personally rated all of them between 4 and 5 points. This season I am very satisfied with TVD. On a sidenote: Enzo attacking my beloved Jer was a NO GO!!! Attacking Matt was a NO GO!!! Enzo is an unnecessary and unnerving pain in the a**. And he has to go/die!!! I am sick and tired of his pointless, pathetic antics.

This was a great TVD episode. Not because everything was perfect or all to my liking, but because it hit all the right emotional notes between the characters, had a whodunnit, and left us with at least one and possibly two mysteries. Damon & Liz: Oddly, they were the best duo this ep. Liz brings out the best in Damon, or did bring out the best and Damon makes her laugh and helps her let her guard down. I thought it would be Liz/Caroline but somehow Damon helping Liz work through her cold cases (didn't take long with the perp right there ) was an excellent way for this workaholic to spend her last day. Eulogy for Sheriff Forbes: You didn't live an ordinary life, Liz. You were extraordinary in every way. Trying to keep peace in a supernatural town is a hard, dangerous life for a human, one where you were called on to help nearly everyone with very little in return. You outlived your fellow town leaders, watching your friends die one after the other, and yet you gave yourself to MF. You will be missed by so many! (As I hope will be shown in your funeral next week. ) Do it different: I'd have left all the Enzo parts for another episode. Sheriff Forbes, Jeremy and their family/friends deserved this one for themselves. I'll close with a couple of beautiful scenes:

This might be a controversial opinion, but Jeremy & Elena smoking a joint together looked like progress for this relationship. Elena pretending to have some sort of say in Jeremy's life, even as recently as the start of this season when she was on psychotropic herbs, was a joke. I'm thankful the show dropped the charade and let Jeremy/Elena act like siblings rather than the alternative. It opened the door for Elena to finally show that she's proud of Jer, wants him to be happy & safe and that he can depend on her for the big stuff, like a car. For Jeremy, he gets his big sis back, a less judgemental Elena who's supporting him instead of criticizing. I honestly don't see a down side. Alaric will play the guardian when needed and no one is better suited since Jeremy chose to be a hunter. Jeremy's a man now!

You are right when thinking about the storyline and i agree with you but i have a bad feeling about this scene in a teendrama. What message does it send to young people? That smoking pod is a cool thing? They should be careful about drugs and suicide and codependent relationships. those kids think everything damon does is cool but giving drugs to a teenager is clearly not. But from the storyline point of view it was cool

But from the storyline point of view it was cool When Jeremy was younger, yes, the topic needed to be addressed. For the Jeremy in this episode, setting off to live his own life, I don't think one scene is sending a bad message. There was also a scene about Miranda calling Sheriff Forbes, hoping to scare young Jeremy when he first started smoking pot. That underscores that his parents thought it was a bad thing when he was in early high school. I find it unlikely very many kids get through the teen years without at least drinking occasionally and experimenting with pot. I don't think they're seeing anything on TVD they don't contend with in real life except for hopefully the violence, killing, torturing, etc. Those bother me more as a parent than watching an 18 yr. old smoke half a joint.

Not as enamored with this episode as everyone else seems to be. I thought we could have done without Enzo's crap for one episode to formulate a better goodbye to Jeremy and also Liz. The Enzo stuff was ruining the episode for me. Unnecessary.
The best scene was Caroline having her last moment with her mom and the memory of the learning to ride the bike.
Steroline kiss...yeah I got nothing. That didn't make me want them to have sexy time. but it was nice to see Stefan being Stefan, always knowing the right thing to say.
Watching Delena be parents is so cringey...I just can't. *makes gag face* It takes me back to that parent teacher conference and ugh.
It is super funny when Damon jokes about murder...or killing Jeremy. *defeated sigh* If THAT doesn't clue you in on how the writers feel about Damon's previous actions and the fact they give zero effs about atonement.
I'm glad but also ambivalent that they decided Jer was going off to hunt vampers. I was like "oh that's nice" *shrug* because off to art school seemed so anticlimactic. oh look Alaric, he still exists and apparently off screen he and Jeremy talked about his future...which I would have much rather seen a scene of that than Damon having a moment with Jer by giving him a joint and joking about killing him again. It would have been a far more interesting moment to see someone who cares about Jeremy have an actual character developing conversation with Jeremy, and not some moment to play for laughs that had nothing to do with Jer's transition into his next stage in life, adulthood. Again the writers are dropping the ball with these moments too many times.
But for me one big emotional cry scene does not a great episode make.

It's super late over here and I'm about to sleep, but wanted to say that I so agree about the Alaric part. Would have LOVED to see a scene where he and Jer discuss his plans. I thought hey, they could have done a quick dramatic flashback during that final scene between them. Also agreed about Enzo, obvs. ><

Again the writers are dropping the ball with these moments too many times. But for me one big emotional cry scene does not a great episode make. None of the posts on the thread say one emotional scene was the reason for rating the show high or calling it great. Everyone had multiple reasons. The ending was the icing on the cake of a well put together episode, not the basis for why the episode worked. I watched it from the perspective that it was a Liz- and Jeremy- centric episode and there was a clear through-line. All the stories (minus Enzo scenes - cut, cut!) were about those two as individuals and how their lives intertwined after losing Miranda and Grayson. Liz and Jeremy were portrayed as imperfect, Sheriff Forbes because she allowed her friendship with Damon to cloud her professional judgement, and Jeremy because his high school experience was pretty awful for various reasons, some outside his control. It was a nice touch to show both accepting their fates in the end, two humans who found a place inside the supernatural world at the expense of normal lives. It was a good story, as well as a sad goodbye.
