What did you Like?I'm absolutely loving the Bamon and Kai scenes.
Kai being revealed as a psycho now proves that it's Bonnie's personal hell because she is stuck there with 2 psychos.
That Bonnie is still the moral centre of the show and willing to stay in hell with the psychos so that Kai won’t be released and inflict more death (sort of makes you wonder why she’s not thinking about Damon the same way.)
Matt bonding with Tripp and finding out about the vampire secret. Although I thought Matt would be more pro-human. I almost hope Matt doesn't try to save Enzo.
Stefan teasing Damon about the animal blood.
The SE reinventing themselves until the marriage proposal. The banter and teasing between SE was natural, comfortable and friendly. I'm so glad they also aren't having them flirt or have either of them (especially Stefan) pine for each other.
At first I didn’t like that it was Stefan who told Elena about Damon but then I realised he did it for 2 reasons. First, because he actually wanted just to be left alone and be able to grieve his own way. Second, it’s also a great comparison to what Damon did while Stefan sacrificed himself to Klaus. When Stefan was gone Damon took advantage of Elena’s vulnerability to get her to choose him. Even when Damon realised that Stefan could be saved in s3 Damon told Elena 'I want you to remember the things you felt while he was gone.' Stefan wasn’t even dead! Stefan on the other hand is not taking advantage of Elena. Stefan could easily make his way back into Elena's life. Instead of helping Elena forget about Damon Stefan is reminding Elena of her love for him and telling her that Alaric compelled her to forget all the great things that Damon has done.
Alaric confronting Jeremy and challenging him to just deal with his grief and keep going.
It seems fitting that Stefan has random fights with strangers as part of his new identity. He seems to be replicating the relationship with his brother and/or it’s as though he’s trying to punish himself for feeling guilty that Damon is died in a plan to rescue him. So basically Stefan is confirming that the Defan relationship is just as toxic as DE.
Bonnie still having hope for Damon’s redemption. Vampire Elena simply accepted Damon’s darkness and didn’t expect him to change for the better so it’s nice that Damon has someone in his life who sees a better version of himself is still possible.
What you did not like? The way the writers add little moments such as Damon sending Lexi flowers as the big effort on Damon's part for remorse. So did Damon send flowers to Lexi's boyfriend so that would make him really killing her all better? It's not super sweet that Damon makes a superficial, empty gesture and we're all supposed to swoon and forgive him. Or even having Bonnie tell Damon that he's been making blueberry pancakes because the pregnant woman he killed craved blueberry pancakes shows he feels bad for what he did and therefore makes Damon better than Kai. Or when Damon felt relief when he killed Zach because he felt guilty about what he did to his gf in 94. Feeling bad about your actions but not changing your actions doesn't absolve Damon of anything.
Damon talking to Liz about toddler Caroline. It’s super creepy given how cruel and gross Damon was with Caroline when he first came back to MF.
The Defan relationship in 94 makes Stefan 09 look like a turd because he tried the same thing to try to get Damon to behave by taking his ring.
Jo getting all jealous when Alaric was staring at the bloodied patient. Many people are squeamish with blood so I'm not sure why the writers took it in that direction. We already get that they're trying to make them a couple.
Why was it necessary to take a hung over Jeremy to the Dr's? It seems a little excessive given Jeremy was suicidal in s1 and no one brought him to see a professional.
The way Damon 94 wanted to run the boarding house, take over for Zach and get in good with Gayle. It was a creepy statement given Damon's history in treating women like his personal puppets.
The SE fake marriage proposal. When Elena said she was (jokingly) pregnant I was expecting Stefan to ask her (jokingly) if it's his or his brother's but I guess he was still keeping the big compulsion secret from Elena.
Damon blaming Stefan for not helping him in the 70s. Damon's never been there for Stefan yet Stefan should sacrifice his (fragile in the 70s) well-being to make sure Damon is okay? Stefan sent Lexi the most perfect person who could help Damon but Damon didn't want to be helped. Even in this episode we saw how Damon came back in 94 for a second chance and even though Stefan agreed to give him a fresh start look how Damon reacted. What Damon has always wanted is to drag Stefan down with him. Damon did it in 1912, in 1940s, in 1970s, in 1994 and in 2009 (s3). Stefan wanted it to be DE to find him while he was drowning over and over for 3 months yet just because they didn't doesn't mean Stefan went on a killing spree and blamed them because of it.
Although I loved Alaric helping Jeremy with his grief with a healthy outlet it made me wonder why Alaric didn't try as hard to help Elena instead of just erasing her memories which is unhealthy.
What was your favorite scene/quote?'Swish your tongue around. Does it feel more like hair or is it more of a grainy pellet?'
'You're just a man-child with jam on your fingers.' Damon IS the expert on being a man-child.
'I can imagine a road trip with you. I can imagine you feeding on innocent people and leaving a trail of bodies behind. I can imagine you making me drink human blood and laughing at me while I suffer.'
‘Ouch. Poor nephew-uncle Zach.’
Pre-compulsion Elena writing ‘I want you to rediscover yourself in the absence of the one that defines you.’ How many more ways can the writers confirm that Damon is the worst for Elena?
What scene was the most shocking to you or caught you off guard?Bamon being in Kai's prison.
