What the sam hill are we watching? I don't know if it's an HBO test, genious prank, or interracial family infomercial.. All I know is it's fun to watch..... I like series that make me think but this one seems to only have questions. If they're depending on me for answers I fear I'll be short a few. lol I spent the whole 42 mins going about every two minutes.... I'm afraid our discussion on here will be an exchange of questions....ending most of the time with Pretty much a new cast other than the Garveys...... what about the 12 min prologue of cave moma giving birth? then the fire chief who sets his own fires and beats his grade-school friends .... what's up with "man-bird"?.... necked school girls running somewhere.... moms digging up live birds in a box.... Did the last earthquake drain the miracle river? and is the town Miracle or Jarden? What's up with the lunch time entertainment at the dinner? do they have to sacrifice a goat a day to keep the town safe? So no ones departed from Miracle, but now they have....Evie and her GF's go swimming in and ice cold stream at night? Are the departed really going to heaven? so pretty must the first episode was ... ... and for me..... how was it for you?

Are the departed really going to heaven? so pretty must the first episode was ... ... and for me..... how was it for you? I do love the mysticism of the show. I love that some things are just there to make you wonder but are left unanswered or make you uncomfortable, in many ways that is true to life. I'm curious about the Murphy family (family introduced this season) especially John, the patriarch. That birthday bbq with him and Kevin sussing each other out trying to get information while everyone else is just carrying on was fun. Clearly the volunteer fire dept has their unique way of getting rid of unwanted elements in their town. Clearly Jarden has its secrets (Jarden is the name of the town, but after the Sudden Departure, was renamed to Miracle because they survived with no missing) and some in the town do not believe in the unbelievable things happening in "Miracle" or trying to keep it a secret from the outside world. My assumption when the wife dug up the bird, that it was a bird that was dead and she buried it and it came back to life. A discover it seems she may have run across before but the bird was testing her theory, and she seems to be keeping that secret from her husband. Also you noticed that when preacher Matt was about to tell of his miraculous recovery of his once completely bed ridden wife, the Reverend was quick to shut him up, especially when eyeing Mr. Murphy in the congregation. It was a great set up episode for a lot of the mysteries this season. It seems from the previews that the story telling will be non linear and told from different pov. Next episode looks like it shows some back story on how the Garvey's ended up in Jarvin, and what they were doing throughout the day while before they met the Murphy's. Also there are still characters from last season that will still be on the show that we haven't seen yet...like Laurie and Tommy Garvey. and Liv Tyler's character, Meg.

crimmyj, I really like your scenario about the bird.... very logical (something rare in this series) I wonder what gave her the idea? So nothing on butchering the goat in the dinner? lol Not exactly run of the mill... I did catch it when Evie gave poppa Murphy his B-day present and said don't open it till I'm gone..... I wonder if it has to do with the foreshadowing the palm reader laid on him. Boy, $60 bucks didn't go very far on the house and medical. lol actually it's a genius conception.... leave 'em with mystery's so they talk about it, but make it entertaining enough not to lose viewers..... I'll have to see how the viewer numbers shook out. later.

crimmyj and shoe20 I finally watched it and it was both and . I don't know why the cave woman sequence was so hard to watch. I nearly turned it off. I actually cried when she died and she never said a word. I guess it was really the baby crying that did me in. Right after the choir practice scene Evie and her friend are scene running naked, quite happily, through the woods. Could this have been a scene showing where they ended up after the earthquake? I didn't mind at all having a completely new setting and characters as the opening. This is how you keep audiences interested and left wanting more. I won't turn this into a rant about you-know-who but it was worth mentioning as a kudos to The Leftover writers.

The intrigue on this show is what keeps me sucked in. Like you said shoe20 this episode seemed so straight forward for the most part (and played like a 2 parter with the season opener, just another character pov) but when they showed Kevin at the lake with the cinder black tied around his leg my mouth dropped... I LOVED THAT. Did "patty" do it, or did sleepwalkin crazy Kevin do it? I love that Kevin's dad is out. I love that head Patty is still very much in the picture. I loved that we got caught up where Laurie and Tommy were. I thought Jill was superb in this episode she really is the only one who has her proverbial sh** together. I admire how she is really the one who keeps it all together even after everything she knows, and everything she has been through. This show is exciting and entertaining to watch because it treats the audience like adults, it doesn't dumb anything down to make it palatable. I just don't instantly forget about this show the minute it turns off, it makes me think and I appreciate that.

I was hoping we would find out more about Laurie and Tommy ...oh my tonight's episode did not disappoint. At first I was like, clearly the Miracle, TX storyline would be the most interesting and maybe drop in on occasion to whatever Laurie and Tommy are doing, figuring maybe they end up in Miracle too eventually...but man, Tommy as the new Holy Wayne. and Meg is still around and as crazy as Patty ever was. Man this show keeps you on your toes. This is one of the few shows that legitimately has moments in which my jaw just drops to the floor in a "did that just effin happen!?!" way.

crimmyj and napoli, do either of you feel we're members of a watching cult, watching a cult? Another episode I couldn't look away from..... I d the way they started the episode with the water on the car ... for me they were teasing continuing kevin's river swim (or sink).... I said they aren't going to leave us hang'n, that's a first!.... Well all those thoughts " departed" almost instantly... A whole hour of Laurie and Tommy, I knew they wouldn't just drop their stories.... High points for me were Laurie snapping and attacking the publisher.... and Meg redefining smoking afterwards to Tommy (damn, I really thought she was going to drop Laurie's lighter) So, do you think Tommy has Holy Wayne's power? How does Laurie have the money for a $900 suite and $5,000 worth of Nicorette gum to fill a fish bowl.... but can't pay the rent?

Laurie must be charging all this crap, in the hopes she can pay it off with whatever she would have made from the book...which clearly isn't going to happen now. Hey not unless that publishers wants to add the assault on as a preword, crazy sells! Another thing I thought of that in all the shows so far they have hinted at something in Australia. At first it was the dude on the tower in Miracle sending off a letter to someone in Australia, then Kevin's dad saying he was going to Australia to start his life over (maybe the voice told him to, since you know he listens to them, unlike Kevin.) and then in this episode the reports of the man coming out of the cave claiming he was resurrected. Interesting little hints. I thought for sure Meg was just going to drop that cig and either kill tommy as a message to Laurie or burn him pretty damn bad. She has Patty's will to do what other won't, that made me on edge that entire scene. Poor Tommy, continually being used as some pawn, either by Wayne, or his own mother. I'm curious how they are going to play out this Holy Tom plot, because Holy Wayne's existence caused him to be hunted (of course collecting Asian girls to impregnate didn't help his profile any). Who knows if his powers will be "real" but the powers of suggestion can be pretty powerful stuff indeed.

crimmyj, I've been picking up the Aussie hints too.... still no idea what they mean. Bird man can't buy lunch but has stamps. lol They did zoom in on the letter for a reason.... Holy Tom, I love it. hehe.... So we have crazy Meg (still like her with pointy ears, lol) in the flash backs and Looney tunes Patty in the present..... Hey, I heard of "last meal" for the condemned.... I like Meg's version better. That was Lorie's lighter, right?

I seriously needed a hug after that episode. Tommy where are you? Tommy has to be lying about the hugs though. If he really had that power why didn't he help people those people right from the start. It's easier to hug than to spend all that time writing on note pads.
Tommy's rape - that whole scene - was disturbing. There were more than a few times - again! - I wanted to turn the episode off. Not because the story is so bad like TVD but because it was so uncomfortable - on purpose - and I just couldn't seem to handle it. Even when Laurie was trying to clean the smudge (blood?) from her windshield I almost turned it off.
I really did need a hug once the episode was over but can't wait until the next episode. Damn you writers!

Damn you writers! YES napoli, and that is what I LOVE about this show! It really pushes viewers to very uncomfortable and dark places, which I think made the final image of Tommy extending his hands made both the former GRs and the audience as a whole need that embrace. desire that embrace. That power of human contact and how it can make things seem ok. That actor was just nailing his scenes in this episode, just incredible work. I'm curious moving forward what Meg's intentions are with the GR as she could be even more aggressive than Patty. I really liked they they finally got to the crux of why the GR exist, that they believe the world ended. Which looking back makes some of their motives more clear. Their effort to "wake up" the rest of the people. This show really sticks with you long after you watch it. Plus watching this show the same night I watch TWD...that is some intense tv viewing I tell ya.

Such heartbreaking moments for the characters on this show. When Nora thought Kevin was taken in another event. When Kevin (via Patty) realized he tried to kill himself. Evie's brother taking the orange sticker off the house. just gut wrenching. The acting on this show is just breathtaking.

She thought she was finally safe. Even those handcuffs won't save Kevin. So do you think crazy guy can see Patty too?
