I really love the series Downton Abbey, it is set in Edwardian/Postedwardian period in England and follows the life of the noble family Crawley and their domestics. The last installment took place around 1922 (series 4). As a child I used to love and watch Upstairs Downstairs, a real Edwardian series of 5 seasons. Am very happy to share my thoughts here if someone would like to discuss it.

Count me in moshe12, I've watched every episode. Great acting, plots, and sets. It's one of the series I watch that I can't wait for the next episode. Did you start the thread? Hey, when DA kills someone their gone, right? I love the way they create drama without the cheap triangle tool. I also feel it's a very realistic representation of that time period in England. We need to get Ruby busy on a favorites thread button so we don't have to do so much flipping around....She has so much time on her hands with no new sign-ups. LOLOLOL

LOLOLOL I should have started it earlier, but I didn't know we have more fans. I watched all 4 seasons and am looking forward to season 5 in autumn. Hooray !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Great acting, great stars, like really great ones Dame Maggie Smith, great plot, I watched alot of background info about DA and some SPOOFS too which are hilarious btw!!! The acting is exquisite. But the British do know how to make a Period Drama. Yeah about the deaths, I saw an interview with Julian Fellowes ...the British actors get 3 ys contracts and after that they can decide if they want to stay or leave. The actors prtraying Matthew and Sybil wanted out. It was their decision. And I guess they stay dead dead...no witch magic in DA.

Hey moshe12, is the poll suppose to be here? Doesn't show up for me. I completely agree the Brits are masters of period series. I was over there 3 times in the late 90's shoeing event horses...Stayed in the Cottswalds and loved the people and the countryside.

A new thread I can enjoy. I'll check out the poll. Well that didn't work like I wanted ... I tried one of the "mood" options and it wasn't what I wanted. Can't seem to edit a change. OH Well

I am not sure...he definitely has a very dark side, remember some scenes in the prison?! But he does love his Anna and I can undertsand why he did it. But I am still not convinced if he killed him or not.

My favourite character at DA are... ...The Dowager Duchess. She is so spot on and dry and sooo behind her time "What is a weekend" lol... I love her frenemy status with Isobel crawley. That was so beautiful that Isobel took care of her when she came down with the Spanish flu. She is soo snotty and her laugh is formidable. ...I loved Matthew and Sybil, they were the light of the series, alas they were taken away so soon, because the actors wanted out ...Mr Carson and Mrs Hughes...they hold everything together like strong glue and they are the heart of DA from the Downstairs dept ...Anna Bates, strong, lovely and loyal My favourite villains are Miss O'brian and Thomas Barrow, oh how deliciously they plotted and pryed. Their frenemy/bromance was one of the best I have seen onscreen. Their codependance and then it all came down with a clash...

Other questions i have been racking my brains with:
What happened to Michael Gregson? Do you believe that he took the German citizenship to get a divorce? Why did he go to Munich ...in 1922 Munich had a beer hall putsch...headquarters of Nazis etc. So why didn't he go to Berlin?
Who would you rather see Mary Crawley with in future? Evelyn Napier, her longtime beau OR Charles Blake, with whom Mary had a bad startoff with, then they saved the dehydrated pigs in the end OR Lord Gillingham, her old childhood friend.

Hey, I'm with you on favorite character"The Dowager Duchess" what a perfect stereotype. Mary I'm thinking will end up with Charles Blake. That was a really sad ending for S3. I'm curious what happened to Michael Gregson too....Do you think it's possible he's working with the Germans? I always get a giggle out of Mr Carson and Mrs Hughes....Their just the glue that holds it all together.... possible romance in their future I think.

Personally I think Charles Blake is just the right man for her . She is a spoilt selfish brat. And he can oppose her because he is grounded and strong, besides that he is loaded with a secret title and lots of money. Evelyn is such a sweet young man, but he is too good for her. Lord Gillingham I think is boring. Gregson is the problem that is frying my brain. I don't trust him. But maybe I am wrong and he is MIA and wounded somewhere in a German prison because they think he is a British spy. And I do remember that he said sth against the Nazis during the series. But it could all be misguiding.
