The CW wants 'The Vampire Diaries' to run as long as 'Supernatural'Nina Dobrev might be leaving "The Vampire Diaries" at the end of Season 6, but The CW plans the show to live on far beyond Elena Gilbert. The CW president Mark Pedowitz told reporters Thursday (May 14) that he expects the show will continue long past her departure. "We had a show run 11 years based on two brothers called 'Supernatural.' I have great confidence that this could happen the same way," he says of the series' hoped-for long lifespan. "Supernatural" is currently entering Season 11. With Dobrev's Elena exiting the story in Thursday's Season 6 finale, Pedowitz offered a tease of what fans can expect when it returns in Season 7. Put simply: Expect the series to look and feel significantly different. It's going to be much more focused on the brothers Damon [Ian Somerhalder] and Stefan [Paul Wesley], a lot of space for Kat Graham [Bonnie] and [Candice Accola's Caroline] to come out," he says. "We believe that with Julie Plec at the helm and Caroline Dries running the show that we will have a show. Most of this year has been getting to the point of where we would have a reset knowing that Nina is leaving." "The Vampire Diaries" will remain in its 8 p.m. ET/PT Thursday time slot when it returns in fall 2015. There it will be joined by its spinoff series "The Originals," which will air at 9 p.m. The CW's official plot synopsis for the new season reads: "In the wake of Elena Gilbert's goodbye, in Season 7, some characters will recover while others falter. As Lily (Anne Wersching) tries to drive a wedge between the Salvatore brothers, we'll still hold onto hope that Stefan and Caroline's love story is strong enough to survive." www.zap2it.com/blogs/the_cw_the_vampire_diaries_run_long_supernatural-2015-05 mmm, what can I say...worth a try Idk...better end it before it gets too mushed up and watery, then on the other hand who knows, maybe season 7 will be a bomb, you never know ... but 11 seasons of TVD, I cannot imagine that the actors will want to stick around that long ...

Not only that but it is going to be real difficult to keep them looking ageless. Vampire shows have a shelf life for that reason alone.

Don't know any other vampire show than Buffy and she had 7 seasons and the other shows I liked/like to watch are average between 4-6 seasons, except PLL which is planned for 7 seasons and which is pretty awesome, considering it makes no sense at all, but it is highly entertaining. I cannot even imagine The Originals airing for 7 seasons.

Angel went 5, so that meant Boreanez and James Marsters (Spike) were vampires for 8 years on television but they both admitted that that last season they sure did look completely different and it would have been hard to continue without looking utterly ridiculous because they were suppose to be young vampires. True Blood ran for 7...but then again the actors who played vamps were already adult actors (and adult vampires that werent turned as teenagers) so their looks didn't change as much as say actors in the very early 20s change over 7 to 8 years. The makeup tends to get caked on a little thicker.

I forgot about Angel, Marsters didn't change that much between Buffy and Angel but Boreanez sure did, he looked puffier after a few seasons, Buffy was awesome, still is. Downton Abbey is ending this year with season 6 as well. Veronica Mars was awesome and had onl y 3 seasons etc etc... I agree 7 seasons should be maximum.

I think they could deal with the age issue in one episode by having someone briefly witchy-woo Damon and Stefan out of their vampire status, they begin to age -- which is the comic subject of the episode -- and by the end of the episode when their vampirism kicks back in, the characters are the same age as the actors. Then The Vampire Diaries takes on a more adult profile similar to The Originals. Just throwing it out there! :)
