The Originals 1×01 “Pilot” Sneak Peek
This sneak peek for The Originals was just released as part of the promotion for the series which premieres for the Fall 2013-2014 season on The CW. In a previous interview Joseph Morgan mentioned that The Originals backdoor pilot which was shown as an episode of The Vampire Diaries had scenes replaced to incorporate it better with The Vampire Diaries. One of these scenes was probably the beginning where Katherine is telling Damon and Stefan that Klaus is gone, and the other scene is probably the one where Elijah kisses Katerina on the forehead and tells her goodbye.
This sneak peek of is the one showing the witch Sophie, played by Daniella Pineda, telling Klaus that he’s going to be a daddy, thanks to his liquor-fueled one-night stand with the werewolf Hayley, played by Phoebe Tonkin, and a “loophole” in nature!
KLAUS RETURNS TO HIS PAST IN NEW ORLEANS
Acting on a mysterious tip that a plot is brewing against him in New Orleans, Klaus (Joseph Morgan) makes a trip to the town he and his family helped build. Klaus’ questions lead him to a reunion with his former protégé, Marcel (guest star Charles Michael Davis), a charismatic vampire who has total control over the human and supernatural inhabitants of New Orleans. Determined to help his brother find redemption, Elijah (Daniel Gillies) follows Klaus and soon learns that Hayley (guest star Phoebe Tonkin) has also come to the French Quarter searching for clues to her family history, and has fallen into the hands of a powerful witch named Sophie (guest star Daniella Pineda).

“There will also be a new character, Davina. Played by Danielle Campbell, this character is a witch in New Orleans who gets tied up in Klaus’ return to town. Davina was originally supposed to be in the backdoor pilot, but the part was cut during editing.” — About The Originals new premiere episode (x)

If you thought you knew everything there is to know about The CW’s upcoming show The Originals, think again. The backdoor pilot aired as part of The Vampire Diaries Season 4, but according to The Hollywood Reporter’s Lesley Goldberg, we’ll see an entirely new pilot episode this fall when the show debuts.“CW pilot screeners arrive with a note that#TheOriginals will shoot a new premiere episode over the summer to air in the fall.#TVD,” she tweeted. There were bound to be at least a few changes to the backdoor pilot, as it was bookended with scenes of The Vampire Diaries’ Stefan (Paul Wesley), Elena (Nina Dobrev), and Damon (Ian Somerhalder). It wouldn’t make sense to keep those scenes in for either show. TVD is doing a time-jump at the start of Season 5, from spring to fall. IfThe Originals wants to keep pace with its sister show (to make crossovers a bit easier), it would require a similar time shift. As of right now, Rebekah (Claire Holt) has no plans to join her brothers in in New Orleans. But something, either in a Season 5 episode of TVD or an Originals episode, will eventually make her relocate. Whether it’sKlaus (Joseph Morgan) and Hayley’s (Phoebe Tonkin) future baby remains to be seen. There’s also the matter of appealing to non-Vampire Diaries fans. It was very easy to follow Klaus to New Orleans if you’re already familiar with his hybrid history and the fact that he and his siblings are over 1,000 years ago. The backdoor pilot did little to explain this mythology, but we suspect the first episode in the fall will delve deeper into even the Original family’s backstories.Whatever happens, let’s hope they still manage to get a scene of Marcel (Charles Michael Davis) doing karaoke. That vampire can sing![\b]

Who is the witch, Davina, on The Originals?
Perhaps you’ve already heard about Davina, the beautiful and powerful witch who will be on The Originals. If so, you may wonder where she was in The Vampire Diaries 4×20 “The Originals” backdoor pilot that aired on April 25th. Well, fellow fangsters, the mystery has been revealed! Her scenes were strewn on the cutting room floor because her appearance in the episode would have been too much of a cliffhanger, according to Danielle Campbell who will bring the witch to life on the series.
When The Originals begins we’ll discover that Davina will become entwined in the web being weaved by the French Quarter witches and Klaus against Marcel and his vamp army. Will such a beautiful and powerful witch also cast a spell on Klaus’ heart? Cami has been hinted to be a possible love interest of both Klaus and Marcel, but what about Davina? I’m sure both power-hungry vamps will want her on their side, but it sounds like Klaus will win that battle in the war to claim New Orleans.
Danielle Campbell on Davina
She is a very powerful witch who gets stuck in the power struggle. So it’s going to be very exciting. There’s a lot of surprises with her.
You’re gonna see her character grow a lot.
She’s a witch who has a lot of power, more than is good for her.
Sounds like Davina is a little like the witchy witch Bonnie Bennett. Let’s home Davina doesn’t end up with Bonnie on the other side of the veil!
Danielle further went on to reveal that there’s a dark side to Davina, and her overly protective guardians have tried to protect her “from the outside world.” However, like any young person wanting to spread their wings and get out on their own, she’s drawn to New Orleans like a moth to a flame.
The debut pilot episode for The Originals will be new and different, to give people who aren’t familiar with The Originals family from The Vampire Diaries series a chance to get to know a little bit about them. Since her scenes from the backdoor pilot were cut, we’ll never know whether those scenes will be restored to the new version or whether new scenes will be shot. Perhaps Julie Plec will reveal that secret!
Danielle Campbell isn’t coming to the role of Davina ignorant of the mythos and history of either The Vampire Diaries or the Originals since she’s been an ardent and devoted fan of The Vampire Diaries since day 1! She’s also not new to acting, even though she’s only 18.

Daniella Pineda’s spoiler about the “Witches’ Revenge”
Klaus needs [Sophie]. She’s going to start practicing magic, which she hasn’t been able to do for the the longest time and I think I can protect myself. Witches aren’t nearly as powerful as vampires, but they are essential.
The power struggle between Marcel and Klaus will be the focal point of the series as they go fang to fang for control of the city.
Charles Michael Davis on the “Power Struggles” between Klaus and Marcel
[Klaus and Marcel] are going to be butt heads, definitely. There’s that friction there. I just really want to see [Marcel] evolve. I want to see different sides of him open up. That’s definitely going to happen I think with how competitive and ambitious they both are.
There’s been a lot of speculation as to what role Cami will play in the power struggle. Marcel seems enthralled by her, while Klaus may think he’s found somebody who may finally understand his inner struggles. But he’ll never give up Caroline, no matter what might happen with Cami, or Sophie, or whomever else might catch his eye.
Leah Pipes, Cami, on “New Friendships”
I hope that Klaus gets Cami as a friend. Because Cami believes that everyone is truly good and I hope that Klaus has someone in his life that believes he’s a good person.
They say familiarity breeds contempt, and while there might not be contempt between Klaus and Elijah, there’s definitely friction and sibling rivalry. That will probably never stop, since it’s been going on for centuries. Power vs family. Elijah wants family and redemption for Klaus. Klaus wants family, but he wants power, too. He always wants his family and friends to be loyal, no matter what dastardly deeds he inflicts on his family and others.
Joseph Morgan and Daniel Gillies on “Sibling Rivalry”
It’s just going to be that ultimate dynamic of Elijah in pursuit of making certain that the family is reinstated as they once were, which is sort of this pursuit of a fantasy, almost. And Klaus is a lot more malevolently in pursuit of power. It’s no less of a fantasy. And it’s sort of watching those two dynamics intersect. — Daniel Gillies
We ended the backdoor pilot in a good place, moving forward together, a tentative partnership between us. But as things complicate, as the series pans out, there’s room for throwing that up in the air. As far as the baby is concerned, I can’t imagine that we both have identical plans of how this child should be raised. So I imagine we’re going to have a conflict of interest. – Joseph Morgan
As for the baby, there’s always conflict when the subject of how a child should be raised comes up, so why should it be different in a vampire / werewolf family? As Joseph points out, the baby will add a whole new level of complications into the mix that will help to make the series interesting.
Danielle Campbell and Joseph Morgan on “More Surprises”
I don’t think they know how it’s exactly going to play out either yet, so I think that’s what is going to keep it really fresh. But there are a lot of other surprises beside the baby. I think that’s really the cliffhanger, but it’s all going to be really exciting. — Danielle Campbell
I didn’t for the life of me see [the baby surprise] coming and I’m so happy with the potential it gives us for exploring these characters. The Originals have always revolved around this idea of family and I think the baby storyline really gives us a chance for that to escalate, way beyond what it would have done just keeping it the three of us. — Joseph Morgan
