I was a little disappointed with the last half of this season. There was just too much build up and not enough actually happening. Things really are more boring in the burbs, even the burbs in TWD.

Good news is you only have 2 episodes to be caught up, and what GREAT episodes they are! and Fear the Walking Dead was only 6 episodes, set in LA chronicling the start of the outbreak, it was decent but not great, but had some great characters, will be interesting if they continue to build off of it.

I love Carol! And I love Rick too but I guess I can see how they scare other people. Her no-nonsense approach keeps her safe as she tries to keep everyone alive and still be moral. I'm okay with her killing because she does it when it's necessary. My hubby reads the comics so he's warned me about what's happening. Even though I sort of know what's going to happen the show still mesmerizes me because of course you never really know how it's all going to play out and they're just so good at it - writers, actors, music...I can go on and on.

I love the music on this show! Of course its Bear McCreary who also did amazing work on Battlestar Galatica and kills it on Agents of SHIELD and Outlander. His body of work is just so unique to each show and amazing. I've read the comics too but the beauty of the show is that while they do follow some of the major storylines and obvious the characters, they do switch a lot of it up, create new characters, and misdirect things that happen to certain characters in the comics happen to other characters on the show. Which gives it enough unpredictability for even the reader, I love that! For example Andrea is technically still alive for this "No Way Out" story arc in the comics. I have no complaints about the changes, I think it keeps the show fresh. and I love the characters that they have added. Carol this last episode was so on point. I was joking with someone about how Carol's casseroles that she makes in Alexandria are like harbingers of doom, she makes one, and people gonna die! This last episode was probably one of my all time favorites, easily in my Top 5 for the series. It was amazing.

It's something TVD writers are sorely lacking. It's something both TWD and The Leftovers have in common - they take their time to flush out the characters and the overall story. One isn't sacrificed over the other. TVD hasn't had character development since s3. It's just a jumble of things happening and really when it stops being about the characters then who cares what happens to them. I didn't mean to turn this into a TVD bashing rant but when you watch a quality show it makes me angry that TVD used to be like that too.

I didn't mean to turn this into a TVD bashing rant but when you watch a quality show it makes me angry that TVD used to be like that too. Oh trust me napoli, you are preaching to the choir here. So many of the shows I watch currently are just really coming out on fire right out the gate with impeccable story telling and really build up characters that you are invested in and care about, even the ones that are the "bad" guys you want to know what they are going to do. And when I get to Thursday night the contrast of quality versus the other shows is so obvious and stark. It truly is like the difference between professional and amateurs. Which is sad because TVD didn't used to be that way. They used to be able to thread the collective needle between the characters and make it fluid, but now everything is disjointed and they continually digress characters development (and what is worse they do it for the sake of a ship!) I mean can you freaking imagine if TWD just turned Carol into a damsel in distress that Daryl needed to save and in the process they start a romance and completely reverse all the character building they have done with Carol since season 1 and even go back and retcon a moment in their timeline where they confess they always loved each other?! It is unfathomable. I mean even with Glenn and Maggie they are a couple, but they have their own storylines that have nothing to do with their relationship. Their relationship isnt what makes them compelling, its who they are as individuals who just happen to be a couple. That is one thing TVD can't quite figure out, they allow characters to lose their own identity for the sake of coupledom. And it just crumbles under its own weight. It makes the characters less likeable.

I have the episodes hoping maybe reading everyone's comments might nudge me to pick it up again but so far it hasn't happened yet. If TWD ever became such drivel it would be such a shame. That's the other thing TWD and The Leftovers has done well - all the characters carry their own story line and weight. They can have an entire episode focusing on secondary characters and still be fulfilling and intelligent and part of the full story. I don't think TVD has ever focused on the secondary characters in such a fulfilling way except Tyler's werewolf story line. But that was an exception and was given such prominence as the preamble to Elena/Damon's sire bond relationship.

Hey there are people here who think TVD's new season is great so far, just don't count me among them. I was hoping for a new direction Elenaless but they are still rehashing plot points. And the B plots are just...NO. Plus I think the Heretics are not compelling as characters. Yet I'm a masochist, and will watch again tonight. *shrug* Your second point I couldn't have said better myself, most of my favorite shows have the strength in story that extend to their secondary characters. The most recent TWD episode is the absolute best example of that, that was a total "B team" episode and arguably one of the best episodes of the entire series. If you develop up each individual character and have strong story arcs, you can do so many things in a show that doesn't rely on relationship or single leads. For a show like TWD it is necessary because you never know when a character could be killed off, so your foundation has to be strong enough that you can move on from character death. or a character absence. Shows that can make you care about secondary characters to the point where they can carry a show, that is when you know the writers are doing something right. Tyler's werewolf storyline is a great example of when TVD knew how to do that well. Just to add another secondary character episode that was one of TWD's best was following Carol, Tyreese, Mika, and Lizzie. "The Grove" episode. Some call it the greatest TWD episode.
